Kensington Hotel near Birmingham: Birmingham Hotels

Good Points: staff friendliness, very helpful, very comfortable.
Further Comments: we were led to bbelieve hotel was much nearer to the nec, after a very expensive taxi fare ￃﾂￂﾣ23, we were made aware that we could have caught a bus to new street station and a 10 minute train ride into the nec . Train fare was already paid into nec bus fare cost ￃﾂￂﾣ1.50 each. Had we been more aware of exact location, we could have saved ourselves a lot of hassle. Also the fact that i had booked a double room for my daughter and myself, apparently we were booked into a very small room that would not have been adequate for us. This was picked up by the Owner/manager of the hotel, who sorted out what could have changed our view of our stay. The booking also states that breakfast was not included, but apparently it was, which was a pleasant suprise. A very good breakfast . although we only stayed overnight, i would definately stay at the Kensington again.

Further Comments: The hotel has returned to an exellent B & B establishment with friendly staff, and has stopped being a resturant in the evenings, this has enhanced the family atmosphere and is a credit to the new owners.

Bad Points: We didn't realise it wasn't that close to walk to the centre you had to use transport but otherwise ok
Further Comments: I think there was adequate information about the hotel we just misjudged the distance. We thought it was very clean hotel.

Bad Points: It was ok, I have stayed in a few family rooms and this has to be the smallest. There was a sink in the bedroom?? Did not understand that at all? There wasn't any tea bags in the room, when I went down to reception there was no sign of anyone...? Breakfast consisted of a chipolata, a warm egg, a tinned tomato, a slice of bacon and some insipid looking beans. Not what I would call a breakfast.
Further Comments: On the internet it stated Hotel...this was guest accommodation. Whilst the establishment was impecably clean, attention to detail was lacking, as I said earlier, no tea bags in the room, surely pre arrival checks have not been completed! For a family room it was quite small, the sink was in the bedroom, there was only two milks in the room, enough for one coffee - thats is you like coffee. So below where it says Would you recommend this hotel? It is not a hotel so how can I?

Bad Points: a bit tired looking. breakfast not great.
Further Comments: costs ￂﾣ10 in a cab from city centre so we had to spend ￂﾣ40 on taxis (from train station to hotel, hotel to city centre concert venue, concert venue back to hotel, hotel to train station) Hotel is basic but good value for money compared to city centre hotels, but you need to take into account taxi fares - it may be cheaper to pay extra for a city centre hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, the hotel has a nice atmosphere.

Bad Points: we stayed in a separate part of the hotel named the coach house which was adequate but unfortunately very cold.
Further Comments: Overall for the cost this hotel was good and if your looking for reasonably priced accomodation short stay with clean rooms, friendly staff and good location to city centre then I would definately recommend this one. I would make sure you are booked into the main part of the hotel for comfort.

Bad Points: the number of very intimidating notices placed in various parts of the hotel it seemed to imply thar it's guests were potential criminals.it should have been done with a little more taste and decorum.
Further Comments: I think that the hotel gives value for money,it's a good location for transport into the city.
