Good Points: Facilities were basic enough but the hotel and room was clean and the staff were friendly.
Bad Points: It was difficult to locate and find, there was no sign on Dean Street to show you where the hotel was. Do not bring a car to this hotel parking is on the street or in an adjacent multi storey car park and is expensive.
Further Comments: We only stayed for one night to attend a football match and the accomodation was adequate for this type of stay. It is a small hotel and facilities are limited for a longer stay. It was very central to the action in the Newcastle but located on a quiet street.

Good Points: Convenient location and easy to park. Large room.
Bad Points: Not very clean. Tired decor and furnishings in need of updating. Lots of street noise.
Further Comments: The hotel in general is in a poor state of repair, and not very comfortable and I would have expected a much better standard (even on a late deal) considering its listed on the site as 4star. Lots of street noise. Very poor in comparison to other hotels in Newcastle.

Good Points: Room was spacious, staff were friendly, receptionists were asthetically pleasing, cooked breakfast was enjoyable
Bad Points: Room was non smoking but retained a smokey smell having clearly once been a smoking room, hotel entrance was secluded.
Further Comments: After eventually finding the secluded front door and successfully checking in, I found my room at the Surtees to be both spacious and well equipped with good firm beds. Outside got a bit noisy at night but this was not a problem for me being an avid lover of night life. The upper rooms also provide plenty of cardiovascular exercise via the stairs, and mental exercise via the labrynth of small corridors. One drawback was the fusty atmoshphere which greeted me every time I returned to my room, which had quite obviously once been a smoking room and retained a smoky smell. Apart from this, and the fact my relationship status forbade me from chatting up the lovely receptionists, I would have no qualms about returning to the Surtees in the future.

Good Points: Very central location, clean, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Very good value for money.
Bad Points: The room was very noisy, bottles were emptied late at night/early morning, train or street cleaner constantly outside, and lights due to the car park across the road meant the room was constantly lit up.
Further Comments: This hotel is in a very central location, close to train station and shops. It is very clean and the room has many facilities such as iron, hairdyer, tea/coffee making facilities. The staff are very friendly and the hotel has a relaxed atmosphere. We were unlucky with the room we were given as it was noisy due to outside traffic. Otherwise, a very enjoyable stay.

Good Points: The fairly spacious bedroom. The central location. Good supply of tea, coffee, biscuits in the room.
Bad Points: Rather noisy at night from a disco down below.
| Further Comments: Having not properly read the directions, we had a slight problem locating the hotel.
It was in a good location for our requirements. |

Good Points: The accomodation was perfectly situated for all the local amenities, 2mins walk to the bars/club is perfect and only 5 mins to the shops
Bad Points: The only problem was that there was no double glazing
Further Comments: Perfect for a couple of nights out on the town, clean & tidy with friendly staff, which I think is good enough for what we needed.

Good Points: It was only for one night but the check-in and check-out procedure was efficient the room was fine and the breakfast was good, which for one night that's all you want.
Bad Points: There was only one pillow on the beds and no remote control on the t.v.( but that was fine because I didn't have time to watch it ).
Further Comments: An overall view would be the first impression I got for the hotel was the sign visible from Dean Street which looked really shabby and did not give a very good impression on the quality of the hotel, secondly the windows of the room were not double glazed and we had to listen to incessant music ( I don't know where from) which lasted until 1.15 am, and there was a pub nearby so we had to listen to all the racket you get from drunks at chucking out time,it was really noisy and I think I must have had about 2 hours sleep at the most.

Good Points: Close to the town centre and lots of pubs, restaurants and clubs.
Bad Points: Room quality and breakfast was pretty basic (bordering on poor)
Further Comments: Hotel is tucked away behind the main street. This means that late evening and in the early hours of the morning you can hear beer bottles from nearby bars being dumped into bins outside. You will also hear the boom boom of dance music into the wee small hours. If you can put up with this then the hotel is in a great location for the town centre. Hotel is quite shabby, room smelt musty and damp (affected our clothing) and the bed was creaky and uncomfortable. Breakfast was extremely basic and appeared to have been cooked earlier and microwaved - not very appetising!

Good Points: Central Location.
Further Comments: Good hotel to stay in for a group of adults for a hens/stag etc. Not much noise from the train as previously mentioned. No major complaints about the general condition of the Hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Only downfall would be noise from the street as the windows are old and not sound proofed. But nothing a set of ear plugs couldnt handle. Overall a good hotel.
