Castle Apartments near Edinburgh: Edinburgh Hotels

Good Points: Great location. Unusual. Comfy bed. Good shower (although tricky to regulate temp).
Bad Points: A lot of things didn't work - cooker; hob markings undetectable so couldn't tell when plates were off; heater in living room; kitchen tap very wobbly; light in bedroom; carpet filthy inside front door; main door to building wouldn't lock. Most of this stuff was put right on our 2nd day of stay.
Further Comments: great location but difficult to get to to unload car. No parking so you have to factor in the cost of this as well (upwards of ￃﾂￂﾣ8 a day). The office where you check in has no parking either so it's tricky to get to. generally good but feel they are squeezing you for every cent with the charging extra ￃﾂￂﾣ10 per hour(!) for late check in/out. Disappointed in amount of things not working in the apt.

Good Points: Modern, spotlessly clean and an absolutely superb location opposite St Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile. DVD player and large flat screen TV was also a welcome bonus.
Bad Points: Lots of steps which would be bad news for the less mobile. It's location also has the disadvantage of being a little noisy.
Further Comments: Was presented with a large, modern flat with all the home comforts you would expect, and some extras (large flat screen TV, DVD player etc.). The location was enviable, being on The Royal Mile opposite St Giles Cathedral. This being the case it was a tad noisy at times and there were a fair few steps to climb. But overall I can't fault it and will use again.

Good Points: Spacious, great location. Good kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Bad Points: Walls very marked up. Windows facing street in upstairs bedroom not double glazed and hence very noisy with traffic. Roller blinds not working properly. Toaster with broken handle and very finicky to operate. Staircase leading up to apartment had a broken light and was very dim in the night time. It was treacherous for my 70 plus year old in-laws.
Further Comments: It would have been helpful if we had read the check-in procedures before hand to realize that the lobby was on the other side of the Clyde. There was no indication at the outside door of the apartment areas that this was indeed the block we were looking for. As stated, while as a whole the apartment was great, details were poor. The couch downstairs that folded out was of poor quality and seemed to be broken.

Good Points: The location was excellent, within walking distance of all the main atractions. V clean apartment, all mod cons.
Bad Points: Our apartment faced onto the main road, which was extremely busy with traffic and there were a few nightclubs in the area, so it was very noisy at night.
Further Comments: Would definately choose to stay there again, the staff all extremely helpful. The apartment was modern and clean, but I would definately ask for 1 that does not face onto the road, as the traffic and people noise kept you awake late at night and early morning.

Good Points: Localizaciￃﾳn cￃﾩntrica, edificio clￃﾡsico, luminosidad y vistas de las habitaciones, tranquilidad, amplitud del apartamento
Bad Points: No hay telￃﾩfono, ni armarios. La TV no tenￃﾭa antena y no se veￃﾭa casi nada.
Further Comments: Pasamos un tiempo muy agradable, y el apartamento contribuyￃﾳ a hacerlo todo mￃﾡs fￃﾡcil.

Good Points: We thought the accommodation was excellent value for money and very spacious.
Bad Points: The fact that we the check in was at the other side of the city, and parking was very restricting.
Further Comments: We thought the accommodation was very spacious and clean, although decor was very basic with painted wood chip. The flow of water in the shower could have been a bit better. As this was an old building there were no lifts and we were on the fourth floor, if you have a lot of luggage or are unfit this would cause a problem.

Bad Points: 5 flights up a pretty dangerous staircase - no lift. We were not warned about this before we arrive at the apartment. Many people would have been unable to manage access
Further Comments: The apartments were clean, and provision of a welcome pack of tea / coffee was appreciated. We were not, however, made aware that we would be staying in a 5th floor apartment with no lift access. The winding stone staircase was steep and dangerous in places, and a lot of visitors would have had great difficulty in managing these - there should have been some notice prior to booking that this was a possibility.
