Hedley House Hotel near York: York Hotels

Good Points: Convenient location, friendly and helpful staff.
Bad Points: Inadequate heating.
Further Comments: This is a nice hotel, well staffed and in a very convenient location with the city centre within walking distance. The directions we were given to the hotel were excellent but, as access to the hotel car park is from a different street, it would have helped to have directions straight to the car park instead of street parking initially. We were allocated an apartment in an annexe (presumably the main hotel was fully booked) which was very nice but there was no heating in the main room and, in spite of it being summer, it was on the cold side. Housekeeping was minimal but adequate for a 3-night stay. Breakfast was good and service prompt. The hotel's greatest asset is its staff who are efficient, friendly and helpful.

Good Points: The rooms were a very good size and the bathroom was clean.
Bad Points: Minor point and it wouldn't stop us from going back, but the shower was quite weak.
Further Comments: Its a short, 5-10 minutes walk to the city centre. Its not really walkable from the station, but there is a taxi rank at the station and it doesn't cost much. You get your own key for the front door which means you are not restricted to returning whilst reception is open. The rooms are a very good size, and the bathroom is clean & modern.

Good Points: Approachable and helpful staff; good food.
Further Comments: This family run hotel is made up of several consecutive houses which are not all linked internally. The staff are readily available when required, and very helpful. Evening meals in need booking before 2pm, but are a very good; alternatively, good city centre eating places are only a short walk away. We really enjoyed our stay.

Good Points: We booked a double room and when we entered our room there were a double and three single beds.
Further Comments: Excellent hotel, very central to town centre. Clean, comfortable and warm. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Will be booking this hotel when we stay in York again.

Good Points: very close to york,just a short 5 min walk
Bad Points: just dmall things like the basin plug was broken,and that we were next to a railway line that i dont think is mentioned.
Further Comments: would have liked to have known about the railway line,although to be fair ther was only afew trains.

Good Points: The rooms were very clean, the bathroom excellent, (though the shower could have been better, more power needed) the bed was fantastic (not normally a good sleeper in hotel rooms) slept well
Bad Points: The power of the shower, the only blip in an otherwise excellent stay
Further Comments: A very welocoming hotel, a minor hitch in the check out process was dealt with effeciently and courteously, the owners should be proud of themselves a really nice hotel. The breakfast menu was excellent, giving the guest a choice is always a winner in my opinion.

Further Comments: The hotel was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I think the hotel charges were excessive.

Bad Points: The room was extremely warm in the evenings because the windows could not be opened much (because of H&S reasons i am sure) but it had been between 25 and 28 degrees in the days so this was understandable.
Further Comments: The hotel was ideally located within a few minutes walk from the minster and shambles although also quiet. Having free parking was great and unexpected so close to the city centre. The hotel staff were nice, helpful and extremely accommodating. The twin room had plenty of clothes and cosmetics space and easily enough room for two females to get ready for evenings out which was excellent and rare in some hotels. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Good Points: The location is good and the staff were friendly.
Further Comments: The hotel is a short walk from the railway station and York's major attractions. My room (by UK standards!) was cheap, but would have been cramped for a couple. There are larger rooms in the hotel, and you would wise to clarify which you will get while booking if there are two or more of you. As with many small English hotels, the steep staircases could present problems for less mobile guests.

Good Points: Quiet,easy access to city centre,off street parking.No unreasonable hotel rules.Easy checkin/out.
Bad Points: A faint wif of cigarette smoke.
Further Comments: Overall an excellent hotel for a visit to York and surrounding area with easy access via A19 and A1237/A64 ring road. Very straight forward, efficient, pleasant staff, easy layed back with out falling into disorganisation. Off street parking after check in as per web site info'. No intrusion or unreasonable demands on guests. Room found spacious and clean, apart from a smell of cigarette smoke, despite the various No Smoking notices on display at arrival. Would use this hotel again.

Good Points: The staff were extremely friendly and professional and the hotel homely and welcoming.
Further Comments: The hotel is a 5 minute walk into the centre of York. The staff and owners of the hotel made us feel very welcome and they couldn't do enough for us which made a huge difference to our stay due to us having a toddler with us (as any parent will know, this can sometimes be a stressful experience, but not at the hedley house). We would definitely book this hotel again for its location and personal service. Fantastic stay!!

Good Points: Excellent sized accommodation for two adults and three toddlers. This is a constant problem in hotels and guest houses.
Bad Points: Access down steps is a problem with toddlers but worth putting up with.
