Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa near Cardiff: Cardiff Hotels

Good Points: Spacious
Further Comments: We have stayed in this hotel on several occasions in order to visit our sons at the University. It is always the same standard of cleanliness and comfort. The food is excellent and very well served by competent, friendly staff. There is also a nice swimming pool. The hotel is well placed for shopping in the main part of the city and has the advantage of an underground car park. Although there are many hotels in Cardiff, we wouldn't want to try anywhere else as we are very happy with this one.

Good Points: large corner high room with excellent views and good facilities
Bad Points: no pillowcases on spare pillows, or covers on extra duvet

Good Points: The view over looking Cardiff Bay.
Bad Points: Ordered taxi through reception and it didn't turn up
Further Comments: Would have liked to have known more about spa and treatments available. Also about booking for spa as it was full with no appointments for 4 days.

Good Points: Staff very helpful.Room very clean and spacious
Bad Points: Having to pay extra for parking in the Hotels carpark, even though I was a paying guest!!!

Good Points: the hotel room was very spacious, comfortable and clean however heating was not working. we reported this 3 times without anybody coming back to us as promised. finally moved rooms at around 6.30pm and we were disapointed to waste a few hours of our stay.
Bad Points: heating problem aside everything else was lovely.
Further Comments: overall we enjoyed our stay but was concerned that our booking could not be found on arrival and i item from the fridge in our room was charged twice. would recommend that staff come back to you with information as this can be very frustrating to the guest.

Good Points: The panoramic views from our hotel room over looking Cardiff, very stylish decor,great big bed and lovely bathroom .
Bad Points: The only thing I can say is the outside windows were filthy, but we were on the 12th floor.
Further Comments: We had a really great time the hotel staff could not have been more helpfull. we ate in the restaurant a few times and was very impressed not only with the food but also the service. we didnt want the weekend to end, so the offer of a late check out and lunch with a complemntary glass of wine for ￃﾂￂﾣ16 was a great bonus.would definatley recommend and if we come back to cardiff we will stay in this hotel.

Good Points: Large bed, comfortable room and bathroom, view of Cardiff (even though it rained the whole weekend)
Bad Points: Nothing was a problem but was surprised to be able to hear traffic on 11th floor
Further Comments: Hadn't realised there was a pool. Loved the treatments offered by friendly therapists.Quite enjoyed the surprise of finding accom so good at this price. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Very convenient for railway to meet family, great to have parking available at a reasonable rate on site.

Bad Points: Breakfast on the first morning was cold, but was heated up on request.
Further Comments: A good hotel for a weekend break, we chose this hotel because of the gym and pool facilities, which did not disappoint. The weather was awful, but that's Cardiff, and the hotel cannot be held to blame!

Bad Points: No hot water on the Sunday morning - no bathrobes (have been on other visits to this hotel)
Further Comments: As got the room on a late deal value for money was excellent. I would say the standard has slipped slightly from previus visits but still one of the best hotels in Cardiff

Bad Points: 1. Hotel parking is charged!..although at final billing was awarded complmentary parking 2. Room was noit serviced to expectation. Beds not changed every day, had to remove sheets myself before they were changed. 3. Bathroom items not always refreshed
Further Comments: Generally OK but to be honest dissapointing over the christams season. not much festivity. Staff did not enter the seasonal spirit. Same clothes not much JOY!..could have at laest work christmas hat!!! Bar area very boring, no atmosphere, needs refurbishment with better design.

Good Points: The appearance of the hotel and the cleanliness
Bad Points: We waited 20minutes for a drinkin the bar/your leisure area was meant to close at 8pm,instead we were told to vacate the pool at 7:30/our bed was not made but merely pulled over,nothing was picked up from the floor/lack of fresh air the room itself/our tv reception was appalling/the breakfast buffet was not very good for the price and was not cooked to 4 star standards.

Further Comments: The hotel exceeded expectations. We stay in lots of hotels and can be quite critical but there was nothing about this that caused us any concern or annoyance. The marks I've given are pehaps conservative. 'Good' I've defined as meeting expectations; 'excellent' as exceeding expectations.
