Good Points: Nice large clean room, friendly service (special mention to the sunday breakfast waitress) and the food was great.
Further Comments: Very easy to find, a central position close to shops, would be an ideal touring base. Making a reservation for the restaurant a good idea.

Further Comments: This hotel is awarded five Diamonds and selected Premier collection by the AA. The breakfast is awarded as well. Rightly, We expected the highest standards in quality but it was fallen short of our expectations. Paticularly, we are disapointed at the breakfast. The inspection by the AA is not satisfactory.

Good Points: The building and it's history - lovely accommodation.
Bad Points: Not being able to stay longer!
Further Comments: Staff are always friendly and helpful. Have only had breakfast at this hotel, but love the fact that all the produce is from local farms / locally made. Good menu selection and very tasty.

Good Points: the room was clean and had all the facilities as advertised, we were given a quite room as requested.
Bad Points: the decor was in need of refreshing and brightening up, the shower enclosure/partition was in dire need of cleaning, the toilet seat was dislodged and no heating in the bathroom apart from towel heating rail. the sash cord window in the bedroom was broken and could not shut properly. our room must have been over the kitchen extraction fan as cooking smells entered the room/s.
| Further Comments: The hotel is in need of further refurbishment, the owners have made improvements but areas of both the interior and exterior require decoration and brightening-up. Although it was Sunday afternoon when we arrived, there should have been people on reception to greet guests, which, having registered, should have been escorted to their rooms -- we were not.
We were aware that there was no restaurant facilities on Sunday evening, but were offered a cold plate, this turned out to be a chicken sandwich with some cold pasta/cole-slaw and sliced tomatoes and for which we were charged ᅡᆪ12.50 a head, the owners retired to bed quite soon after our meal and we were left to help yourselves to the bar and note down what you had, not quite what you expect from a 4* hotel !! We did not wish to try their restaurant on the following evening as the menu was limited and quite expensive. Their breakfast was quite basic and not particularly interesting.
We note that this hotel is in the Johansens hotel guide -- very surprising as having stayed in quite a few of these hotels we would not class the Belplot House Hotel in this sort of category, something we will take up with Johansens. |

Good Points: Hotel was warm and inviting with a good atmosphere. Room was very comfortable, walk-in shower was excellent, spotless.
Bad Points: Very poor reception on mobile phone and poor and very expensive taxi service to and from hotel.
Further Comments: This hotel was an excellent choice, the whole place is spotless, comfy bed, walk-in shower, tea and coffee in room, very cosy, lots of character, the proprieters and all members of staff are very helpful and curtious, nothing is to much trouble. The resturant is a delight with excellent food, very well cooked and beautifully presented, the ambience is second to none. Absolutely out-standing.

Good Points: Centrally placed, nicely renovated house, cosy bedroom
Bad Points: Nothing
Further Comments: The hotel is well placed in the High Street and has been attractively renovated. The staff were welcoming and the room was very cosy. I liked the touch of naming the rooms after women who had lived in the house. Breakfast was very nice. Overall, I liked the balance between feeling welcome and having my own space. I arrived on a Sunday evening which is the only night an evening meal is not available.

Good Points: The rooms were up to date and had good amenities. Great additional little touches like real shower gel, disposable razors etc in the room itself. Wi-fi connection throughout also a nice touch.
| Further Comments: The hotel has been pleasantly displayed and sits well in the community of Chard. Local produce is used and the details of local sellers is displyed on the menus ... a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and chatty and happily made menu recommendations.
We had the chance to meet and talk with the owner of the hotel, and he has a pride about the place and very knowledgeable about the local area and could make some interesting recommendations! |

Good Points: The room was clean spacious and the decor was beautiful
Bad Points: The room was noisy from the road noise, but only when the pubs closed for 1 hour.
Further Comments: I would stay at the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone. The staff could not have been more helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The road noise between 11 and 12 pm was annoying, but not enough to stop me staying in the same room again. I stayed with 3 children under 6 and the family room is perfect with room still to move around.

Good Points: The lovely surroundings in a beautiful village and also the comfortable house with antiques was wonderful!
Bad Points: Nothing
| Further Comments: This hotel is perfect for a romantic stay away or else just a short break within Britain. We stayed as a stopover on the way to Cornwall and this was just a good distance from the south-coast to Chard to break the back of the long journey. The friendly owner bought a delicious cup of tea which quickly made the journey disappear! The breakfast was superb and the bed/bedding was also first class. I felt like it was very luxurious surroundings and I wished I could have stayed longer! I will definitely return!

Good Points: The hotel was clean and tidy and the decor was in keeping with the Georgian period building, soft furnishings were of good quality.
Bad Points: Double room was smaller than it looked on website, did not like the put-you-up bed that was stored right outside the room (Florence)
Further Comments: We stayed for 1 night and it was fine. We liked the cleanliness of the room and bathroom, all facilities were working. It looked fresh and tidy. We were allocated room Florence which was on the ground floor at the back. It was nice to see a little history of the house in the room information pack. The hotel staff were friendly and polite. I had mentioned in my online booking that it was my birthday and on our table at dinner there were some 'happy birthday' greetings sprinkled on the table, that was a nice touch. The food at dinner and breakfast was good quality, very tasty and well presented. The bread was delicious as was the home made conserve served at breakfast. A couple of minor points of constructive criticism: There was a put-you-up bed stored right outside Florence room. This does not give a great first impression to guests and made the entrance to the room quite cramped. There was quite a long wait between courses at dinner, the dining room was not fully booked so we thought the service could have been a little quicker. We did not like the background music that was playing in the dining room, it was quite unusual. We would have preferred light classical music which would suit the surroundings. As we were eating one of our courses, a member of staff came to clear up a vacated table behind us and sprayed 'pledge' on the table to clean it. It would have been better to wait until diners had finished eating before doing that. The trainee waitress at dinner went to the 2 other occupied tables with our main course before realising they were ours, perhaps numbering the tables would avoid this.

Good Points: Lovely Georgian building; carefully restored. Small and intimate hotel with friendly service.
Further Comments: Small and friendly hotel. I travel with three small children who were also made extremely welcome. Layout of dining room ensures that parents can eat while children relax in the drawing room. Standard of both dinner and breakfast was high utilising excellent local ingredients.

Good Points: Small cosy hotel. Cute rooms that were very large. Thoughtfully decorated and dressed.
Further Comments: What a tremendous little hotel. Cosy and very friendly. Betty and Dennis went out of there way to accomodate our needs. Thomas (The Chef) prepared superb meals, from purely local produce. This would be the only restaurant I know, where you can trace the origins of each ingredient back to a localfarm. Outstanding place. I would recommend BellPlot House to any of my friends.

Good Points: Beautiful house, lovingly looked after.
Bad Points: Was noisy at night due to being on a main road.
Further Comments: After paying for bed and breakfast, we were charged ᆪ18 on top for breakfast. Other than that, we had a very pleasant stay and appreciated the little extras in the room, like cotton wool, nail file, books etc, made it a bit more personal.
