Further Comments: We really enjoyed our stay & breakfast was excellent; good service etc. One small(ish) issue is the double room was actually twin beds pushed together, but this was not enough of a problem to affect our stay. It would have been useful to have the restaurant menu available in our room.

Good Points: Modern good size bedroom, Nice restaurant excellent dinner & breakfast
Bad Points: We arrived between 5.30-6.00 but there was no heating on in the room
Further Comments: Very good value, good food, friendly staff, house wine a little expensive.

Good Points: Excellent Hotel, fantastic leisure facilities (gym, pool, Sauna & steam room), good breakfast. Very easy to find from the A1
Bad Points: The hotel car park could be larger. It can be difficult to find a car parking space in the hotel car park when the golf club is busy (during the hours of daylight).
Further Comments: We'd strongly recommend this hotel to anyone at the B&B rate we got through Activehotels.

Good Points: I was impressed by the ambience and tranquil environment and that it was very peaceful. The hotel did experience a power cut so this may have had an impact on my experience.

Bad Points: The beds could be better they were to soft
Further Comments: Great Hotel and lovely setting. We really enjoyed our stay here and would return again. Breakfast was good and facilities exellent. The only draw back was that the beds were to soft and when moving around your partner rolled into the centre of the bed... Overall graet place to stay

Good Points: welcoming atmosphere, open fires, friendly staff, excellent breakfast especially freshly cooked English breakfast and excellent choice to include kippers and smoked haddock. Ezcellent leisure facilities, lovely pool, steam room, sauna and spa facilities
Bad Points: Inadequate hot water in bathroom and bath panel kept falling down. Bedroom carpet old, marked and needed replacing. Would have liked the jaccuzzi to have operational throughout our stay. Perhaps would like to see a less formal dining option for the evening with bar snacks.
Further Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the above comments and would enjoy further visits. We were particularly impressed with the room rate which we considered excellent value for money.

Good Points: Location and room.
Bad Points: Hotel was quite, but not surprised just before christmas.
Further Comments: The location was fantastic, not far from York or Harrogate and the hotel was really warm and welcoming along with the staff. Our room was spacious and very clean. We had a meal in the restaurant which was again very well done. Just remember to have plenty of change for the 40p toll bridge. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would go again.

Good Points: The accommodation was very fresh, clean and smart - the decorators were in! But this did not deter from our stay. Also they were putting up the christmas decorations - my partner had to be physically restrained from trying to help!!
Bad Points: Nothing really.. but there could have been more information in the rooms regarding room service and menus - if we wanted something, there was no room service number to ring (should we have rang reception?) or menu to choose from.
Further Comments: Nothing.... our experience was exacally what we wanted and had expected. We wanted to get away from everything - work, life and kids - go for freezy cold walks in the country and a spot of Christmas shopping in York - we achieved this! One amusing tale though - we were advised to book for dinner as the restaurant would get full.. we were the only ones who dined in there that night, but were delighted with the quality of the food and service.

Good Points: good setting, handy forlocal towns
Bad Points: cleanliness, service, room size
Further Comments: Room was small, with small window, stains on carpet, dust along skirting boards, cobwebs on ceiling, toilet flush temperemental, plug in bath broken, staff young and not particularly pleasant. At breakfast - had to wait to be seated, had to wait for items in buffet, dirty tablecloth. Good points - lovely setting and handy for york and harrogate. Generally very disappointed for a 4 star hotel.

Good Points: size of room & the leisure facilities
Bad Points: catering - very limited choice in lounge bar - no steak, no baked beans!!
Further Comments: the hotel was very nice with huge rooms and excellent leisure facilities. It was a good mix of old and new - very well designed. The only gripe I had was that there was no steak left and no vinegar for my chips! At breakfast they had run out of beans! They seemed just a few staff short in the evening - bar man had to run to restaurant for soem glasses etc.

Good Points: The leisure facilities and room accomodation were excellent
Bad Points: Check in and Breakfast.
Further Comments: Check in was delayed as our room wasn't ready and we weren't the only ones. It appears to have been a very busy Saturday night and they used the excuse that most guests hadn't checked out until 11am but as check in is meant to be at 3pm you would hope that the rooms would be ready. They did give us our key as soon as it was ready but the floor was still wet from being mopped. I had paid for an upgrade to an executive room but we were allocated a suite which was like an apartment. Possibly too large but very nice. We had an evening meal at the restaurant which was lovely but you do have to order vegetables separate if you want them. The leisure facilities were great but very restrictive if you are travelling with children as they have limited access and under 16's are not allowed to use the facilities in the evening. Myself and my husband had some treatments which were very nice and the staff were pleasant. Breakfast was chaotic. We were allocated a table quickly but there was very little choice just the basics. No croissants or selection of ham or cheese and only raspberry jam or honey. Our coffee and toast arrived 10 minutes after finishing breakfast and that was after requesting it 3 times.

Good Points: Great setting, great facilities, friendly staff.
Bad Points: See below.
Further Comments: On Saturday nothing was too much trouble. Food was good although far too expensive for the quality served. We eat in a lot of restaurants and your quality deserveda price of ᆪ20 a head not ᆪ30. The quality on Monday morning dipped dramatically, but I see your tariff is half the cost - perhaps half the service. Not really good enough for a 4 star hotel. This was particularly noticeable at breakfast where on sunday the staff served us and then on sunday it was help yourself and it seemed difficult to get tea and toast! Finally, the most expensive night was Saturday in terms of tariff but on Sunday morning there was no hot water. We had to have a cold shower as we were meeting people in York. Just as we were leaving for the day the desk staff did inform us the hot water was back on, but only after asking again. This was not a good start to a day as you can imagine. Overall though the stay was good, with excellent facities and good friendly staff. I will probably go again but will expect a better experience next time. Nick and Liz Datson
