Dorset Villa near Bath: Bath Hotels

Bad Points: When I tried to check into The Dorset Villa Hotel In Bath on Saturday the 23rd June 2007 at 5.30pm there were no staff present I was lucky (or in retrospect unlucky) to notice a small note on a scruffy piece of paper stating that I was allocated room no.6 which was at the other end of the kitchen. On entering the room it smelt of stagnent water coming from the shower which happenend to be next to the headboard of my bed I could not sleep very well due to this smell. In the early hours of sunday morning I was woken by the clatter of pots and pans right outside my door I promptly rose and dressed paid the room rate and checked out.You may think that I should have complained to the staff but I was so annoyed it was in my own interest to leave. I did not even get a receipt. WARNING DO NOT STAY THERE.

Good Points: Good location, big room and good breakfast.
Further Comments: Despite bad reviews, I thought the hotel was good. There was no-one to check us in, but everything was set-up for us to get going. The couple running it were friendly and offered a good breakfast. Room was large and bed comfortable.

Good Points: Great location Friendly hosts, good breakfast
Bad Points: Parking a real problem, lots of road noise Shabby accomodation with tired bathroom (no shower) and dirty carpets
Further Comments: Description of accommodation stated that it had been recently refurbished - this is not the case in terms of the bathroom or carpets. Only 2 car parking spaces for 6 rooms - chance of avoiding to pay for public car park is slim. The location is very handy for walking the few minutes into town.

Good Points: It was exactly what I expected and met my needs perfectly
Bad Points: The shower was difficult to adjust. The machine for taking card transactions was not working so I paid in cash. Not a problem for one overnight stay only.
Further Comments: A litle more information about parking would have been helpful. There is nowhere to stop outside whilst you go in to enquire where to park. Otherwise the information I was given was very helpful and entirely accurate. The staff who were locums were kindly and welcoming.

Good Points: The room was simple but clean and everything worked.The breakfast was of the highest quality and cooked to order.
Bad Points: You had to sort out yourself when you arrived but instructions about your room were clear.If there had been any problems you had to ring a remote number.
Further Comments: The hotel offers straightforward,simple accomodation within easy walking distance of central Bath.The English breakfast is excellent and you can basically eat as much as you want.The staff are attentive and can offer sound local information.It is not for guests who want modern rooms and loads of gadgets.

Bad Points: The room was not clean (although the bedding was), very damp and mouldy. The room itself was fitted out with old fittings, the shower was in the bedroom (with the ensuite having the loo and sink). My room was off the kitchen, which itself was dark and not particularily clean either (which given I had to walk through it was fairly astounding).
