St Denys Hotel near York: York Hotels

Good Points: The breakfast was fresh, nice and well cooked.
Bad Points: The room could have been a lot better with a little work.
Further Comments: Before booking the hotel we read the reviews on the site, and felt that the hotel should offer value for money, and were thinking that the problems other people had experienced may well have been sorted out in the months since the reviews were written. However we must've got the same room as a previous reviewer as the main light did not work, there was no remote for the tv and the shower wasn't very good at all. Not to mention that the plumbing in general in the room was shoddy. It's difficult to understand why these issues had not been sorted out since the last time they had been raised. A little more attention to detail, a lick of paint and the hotel would be much better. Luckily we paid the web price on here and not the full hotel price. If we had we would've been very annoyed!!!!

Good Points: Jacuzzi, Spacious suite, Four poster bed. First class service and breakfast.
Bad Points: Hot water temperature could have been higher, also central heating for that time of Year.
Further Comments: Within easy walking distance of all attractions, pubs and restaurants. Spacious 4 poster suite, jacuzzi added bonus. Generous, first class breakfast and service, kept you going for the day. Car park small, but no problem. Would recommend and visit again. Mature couple 3 night stay September 2007. Downside, water and heating a higher temperature for that time of Year.

Bad Points: Extremely noisy during the night. Did not have a good night's sleep as an open window was essential due to stuffiness.
Further Comments: Very basic hotel; somewhat 'tired' having seen better days. However, facilities were good with decent sized bathroom. We would liked to have known prior to booking that the traffic could be a problem in the night and early morning.

Good Points: Clean and comfortable
Bad Points: Toilet squeezed into an already small bathroom, therefore very little room for comfort. No evening meals available.
Further Comments: Pleasant and quiet area very close to town centre and attractions. with good choice of restaurants and cafes.Very friendly staff at the hotel

Good Points: Not far from york centre. Good breakfast.
Further Comments: Would certainly stay there again, staff friendly and efficient. Not far from city centre.

Good Points: friendliness of staff, close proximity to town centre
Further Comments: I only give the room a good review because the hotel actually had builders in - I'm sure the accommodation is usually as good as the rest of the services at the hotel

Good Points: all areas were large and spacious, in which we could sit and talk. the bedrooms were clean and pleasant
Bad Points: the showers were like using a watering can
Further Comments: The accommodation was clean light and pleasant. the breakfast was good,plenty of choice for the full english and whats this? egg and soldiers great. location brilliant so close to centre with no traffic noise. now for the bad bits which can be addressed, showers not working properly [low flow], no local feedback from staff ie where is a good place for a meal, reply i dunno try a pub. and finally parking in the carpark is awkward

Good Points: Accomodation was clean and tidy and perfect for touring the city. many excellent resteraunts were within 200 yards. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked.
Bad Points: Due to sudden cold spell room was very cold. heating was not turned or was malfunctioning despite repeated protestations to reception. portable heater was not adequte and took the shine off the stay at the hotel. Car park is too small and morning car shuffling was a daily occurence.
Further Comments: in general the hotel is what it says it is and is clean and tidy. The staff were polite but provided little more than lip service. I suspect the turnover and its location in the city has much to do with this and attention to an individual guests needs was lacking.

Further Comments: A lovely hotel in a good location,stayed in the four poster room which was worth the extra money and the jacuzzi bath was great. Good breakfast with plenty to choose from. would stay there again.

Further Comments: This hotel being inside the York City Walls was very convenient for visiting the city attractions. The staff were pleasent and help full. The breakfast was good. The rooms clean and the beds comfortable.

Bad Points: Deccor was somewhat dated & husband disappointed there was no sky tv
Further Comments: The hotel was a bit dated but had a high standard of cleanliness. The breakfast was excellent with friendly efficient service. The bathroom was a good size.

Good Points: Basic but clean
Bad Points: To many mirrors in the En-Suite shower room!
Further Comments: We found the Hotel to be Basic but clean. The breakfasts were lovely and very enjoyable. If had to make a complaint it would be about the lack of room and the small choice of drinks in the bar area.
