| Good Points: Bed was very comfortable and the hotel wa very convenient for the town and the Watercress Line. |
| Bad Points: Bathroom was cramped and situation of toilet. Neither the door or the window were substantial enough to reduce outside noise. |
| Further Comments: Whilst the hotel, breakfast and room itself were satisfactory, I did overall feel that the room was overpriced. Having a road facing room, we were greatly disturbed by noise from the street. Indeed having to call the night manager (who took a long time to answer) at 4.30AM because people (staff?) were talking and laughing loudly underneath our window. If we returned to this hotel, I would therefore request a rear facing room. As also mentioned the room door also did not keep out any noise from the corridor. |

| Good Points: Room was large in a good state of repair and clean - same goes for hotel. Ample parking. |
| Further Comments: Great location - in easy walking distance for those travelling on the Watercress Line. Hard to quantify but the hotel had a good well cared for feel about it. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and a request for few rounds of cheese and pickle sandwiches in the early hours was not a problem. Our bedroom was large, well appointed, in good state of repair and best of all clean. Price (including a full English breakfast) represented good value. Would be my preference for a stay in Alton. |

| Good Points: Nice room, heating was good, internet, brakfast was fair. |
| Bad Points: No hair dryer.
No safety chain on the door
No Iron
Poor shower, sudden changes in temperature.
Hotel looks tiered. |
| Further Comments: This hotel has fallen behind and needs a bit of an attention to the room equipment.
For half the money you can get just the same facilities or better.
Two associates travailing with me agree. |

| Good Points: The location was ideal as it was within 2-3 minutes to where I had business. The staff were extermely attentive and helpful. Also quite by chance I got to meet the owner, Tony Bailey, through his friend and lawyer, John Tulloh, (a recent aquaintenance of mine) who were dining together and invited me to join them I always feel it's comforting to witness the owner eating in the restuarant of his own hotel. I spent a delightful evening with them. |
| Bad Points: My standard double room (No 11) was comfortable but just a little too small. However when I stayed an extra unplanned night and I was upgraded to the Cardinal Suite; which was great! |
| Further Comments: In general I found The Alton House hotel excellent. I had a very pleasant stay. It has encouraged my view that a good 3-Star hotel can and is every bit as good as any 4 or 5-Star hotel and sometimes much better. Also cheaper! Well one The Alton. |

| Good Points:
The bedroom was of a decent size and reasonably equiped. Food was excellent and room service meal was most convenient. |
| Bad Points:
No lift available - my wife has walking difficulties, not mentioned in description for on-line booking |
| Further Comments: Staff unprepared for a busy breakfast - tables not cleared quickly and when relaid missing cutlery, crockery, napkins etc. A meet & greet person would have been helpful and more professional as would someone who appeared to be in charge, therefore I believe more trained staff would be useful. |
