The Star Inn at Alfriston is reputed to be one of the country's oldest inns. Originally built during the 13th Century its first recorded refurbishment took place in 1450.
Since that time, it has seen many changes, and today offers its guests a unique blend of oak beams, open fires, an intimate atmosphere and traditional hospitality alongside the modern comforts of its well appointed guest accommodation.
Known as 'The Star of Bethlehem' until at least 1520 the hotel was then run by the monks of Battle Abbey, and offered shelter to friars and pilgrims on their way to the shrine of St Richard at Chichester.
Today's traveller can be assured of an equally warm welcome and will find the The Star, located right at the heart of the picturesque village of Alfriston, is ideally located for walking the South Down's Way (which passes right by the front door!), the Opera at Glyndebourne or the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry.
Facilities include a restaurant for traditional meals and a bar serving light meals and snacks. Local activities include golf and horse riding.
The Star Inn is convenient for Alfriston Clergy House, Arlington Raceway, Monks House, Brighton Marina,
