Standing above the White Cliffs of Dover, South Foreland Lighthouse was the location for Faraday's pioneering work in the use of electricity in lighthouses, and of course, the first to be illuminated in this way.
Marconi also used this lighthouse for his wireless telegraphy experiments in 1898.
Please note that there is no parking at the lighthouse. Park at the White Cliffs of Dover and walk along the clifftops (2 miles). Guided walks from the White Cliffs of Dover car park to the lighthouse are available from May to September. The route form St Margaret's village is just 1 mile.
