Severn Valley Railway runs for 16 miles between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth through beautiful Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside. For most of the journey, the line is just yards away from the River Severn, which it crosses by the 200ft span of Victoria Bridge midway between Trimpley Reservoir and Arley.
Stations are located at Kidderminster, Bewdley, Arley, Highley, Hampton Loade and Bridgnorth, each with its own unique and timeless charm. All of the stations are worth a visit in their own right, so if you have the time to break your journey, I'm sure you'll find something that will interest you at one of them.
Bewdley station is within walking distance of the centre of this Georgian town, which has some interesting buildings, shops and a museum.
Arley is a delightful little village sitting on the hillside facing Arley station. A field right next to the River is open to park your car (ᆪ1 or free out of season). From here you can walk to Arley Station, Arley village, and either side of the River to Victoria Bridge or Trimpley Reservoir. The local pub also serves meals.
From Highley Station you can walk along the banks of the River Severn to Severn Valley Country Park<\a>, or alternatively you can alight at the recently constructed Halt at the SVCP itself.
Hampton Loade station has a model railway in its grounds which runs on Sundays and Bank Holidays. You can cross the river at Hampton Loade by ferry and walk part of the Dudmaston Estate (NT) or visit the village, pubs or restaurant.
Bridgnorth is the largest station on the line and also accomodates SVR's main engineering facilities. A convenient footbridge takes you directly to Hightown from where you can enjoy the scenic walk with views over Lowtown and the river. At the end of the scenic walk is the town centre or you can take the cliff side railway to explore Lowtown.
