The Roman Baths are over 2,000 years old and one of the best preserved Roman sites north of the Alps. A hot water spring feeds the Baths with mineral water at a temperature of 46 degrees C. Having no other explanation for this phenomenon, the Romans believed it to be the work of the Gods, and that the spirit of the goddess Sulis Minerva dwelt within the sacred spring.
The Pump Room at Bath dates from 1795, and is one of the most famous buildings in the country. This elegant Georgian building includes the spa water fountain, overlooking the hot spring that was sacred to the Romans.
