Northenden Golf Club opened in 1914 on 40 acres of land in a loop of the River Mersey with the Riverside Tea Rooms as the first operational clubhouse.
Additional land was purchased in 1921 and Harry Vardon redesigned the course. This design lasted until 1972 when the M63 took care of the first 5 holes. Additional land was leased for Peter Allis and Dave Thomas to redesign the course.
Vincente Fernandez set the the course record of 66 at Northenden, which is a 6432 yards, par 72 course. This record has stood since 1986.
