The mission of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is to enable better management of the Earth's environment by increasing knowledge and understanding of the plant and fungal kingdoms - the basis of life on Earth.
Kew Gardens extends to some 300 acres divided into a large number of different gardens, and possibly requiring 2 or more days to explore thoroughly. Their visitor map is divided into 3 sections which each take 2-3 hours to cover.
Gardens include Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Bamboo Garden, Sir Joseph Banks Area, Berberis Dell, Conservation Area, Duke's Garden, Grass Garden, Hardy Herbaceous Garden, Lake and Pinetum, Rhododendron Dell, Roack Garden, Rose Garden, Woodland Garden and Woodland Glade.
Palm House at Kew Gardens was built to house the exotic plants and flowers that were being discovered all over the British Empire. This Victorian cast iron greenhouse is huge at 66 feet high, 100 feet wide and over 360 feet long.
