Coughton Court is a wonderful Tudor house and has been the home of the Throckmorton family since 1409. It has important links with the Gunpowder plot and Civil War.
The architecture of Coughton Court is varied and interesting. Access to the roof of the tower provides a very interesting perspective from which to view the house and gardens.
The interior at Coughton Court is excellent. It has the charm and personality that only generations of the same family can create. The Throckmorton family still live at Coughton Court and manage it.
To the rear of Coughton Court a half timbered courtyard has a well planted garden with a pond and fountain at its centre. This leads on to the main gardens, tea room, displays in the old stables, toilets and the plant/gift shops.
Whilst the gardens here are not spectacular, there is still quite a few things to see. Beyond the formal areas the garden extends to a small lake and river walk. A recently created walled garden (extra charge even for NT members) is formally laid out mainly to roses with many arbours.
Adjacent to the walled garden are 2 churches.
Wheelchair access is to all rooms. Some of the paths in the garden are gravel and some paths in the walled rose garden are too narrow for wheelchairs, but the main paths shouldn't present a problem.
Picnic in the car park. Toilets to the rear of the property next to tea room and stable displays.
