The Long Mynd is a beautiful range of hills covered largely by heathland. The views from the top on a clear day are quite breathtaking and extend to the Shropshire plain, Black Mountains and Stiperstones.

Carding Mill Valley is steep sided with a stream. It makes a good picnic spot and starting point for a walk if you enjoy the challenge of starting from the bottom!

A NT Information Centre, shop, tea room and toilets are available and accessible to wheelchair users.

If you don't fancy the haul up from the bottom of the valley, then you can take the, no less exciting, 'road' across the Long Mynd. I use the word 'road' with caution, which is how you should drive up it. The road is steep, narrow, poorly surfaced, drops away almost vertically at one side and has the added distraction of the occasional sheep. Parking is limited on the heathland to reduce damage so please stick to the areas set aside for cars.

Once on the heathland area you will be rewarded with some spectacular scenery and fairly easy walking conditions. Insect repellant is advisable during the summer - watch out for the flying ants which can be a nuisance.

There's plenty of interest up there to keep the naturalists amongst you amused, and if that's not your bag, then drive over near the glider airfield where you'll also be treated to hang gliders and para gliders (if that's the correct term).

Church Stretton is a small town with several tea rooms, antique shops and pubs for those in search of refreshment.

Attractions near Carding Mill Valley & Long Mynd include Shrewsbury, Church Stretton Golf Club at Church Stretton, Acton Scott Historic Working Farm near Stretton, Shrewsbury Golf Club at Shrewsbury, Stokesay Castle near Stokesay, Decorative Antiques at Bishops Castle, Walcot Hall near Lydbury North.
