Currently listed by the English Tourist Board as Britain's top free tourist attraction, Blackpool Pleasure Beach welcomes over 7 million visitors annually.

Its newest attraction - Valhalla, opened in June 2000 - has been hailed as the biggest, most spectacular dark ride ever to be constructed by mankind, and cost a staggering ᆪ15 million to build. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, the journey to Valhalla - the immortal resting place of Viking Warriors - is a six minute, high speed, multi sensory dark ride that takes your Viking longboat through every extreme of element the natural world creates. Many of the specially created 'show action' effects have never before been used on amusement park rides: Valhalla's intrepid 'Adventurneers' journey through blazing fires, breathtaking waterfalls, freezing mist and snow storms, thunder and lightning, experiencing extremes of temperature from -20 deg. C to 110 deg. F.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is also home to the world's tallest, fastest rollercoaster. The Pepsi Max Big One stands 235ft high with over one mile of track, where you'll reach speeds of up to 87mph. In fact, no other park has as many rollercoasters - there are no fewer than 13 to choose from!

If white knuckle rides aren't for you, don't despair - there's something for everyone within the park's 42 acres, where you can choose from over 145 rides and attractions, plus spectacular shows. The whole family will enjoy leisurely cruises around the River Caves and Alice's Wonderland and, especially for kids, there's Beaver Creek Theme Park, home to Bradley Beaver and his very own log flume. You can visit the American Ripley's Believe it Or Not! Odditorium and the Ocean Boulevard shopping promenade; learn to skate in the Pleasure Beach Arena; or try one of the 54 restaurants and catering outlets.

By road: M6 Junction 32, M55. Follow brown tourism signs. By rail: BR station at Blackpool Pleasure Beach - change at Preston.
