Windsor Castle was built high above the banks of the River Thames some 900 years ago to protect the western approaches to London. During that time the Castle has developed into the palatial residence we see today, attracting in excess of 1.1 million visitors per year, making it one of the UK's top 20 attractions.
The Castle is superbly furnished with fine furniture, art and porcelain collections. Paintings by Holbein, Van Dyck and Rembrandt hang on the walls.
The Precincts, Queen Mary's Dolls' House, The Gallery, The State Apartments, St George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel are open to visitors.
