Hotels near Severn Valley Railway Kidderminster Town Station

Despite its traditional appearance, Kidderminster Town Station is a relative youngster amongst the stations along the Severn Valley Railway, with the ticket office and waiting room being constructed from around 1984 on the site of the former Great Western Railway goods yard and based on a station building design at Ross on Wye. The cobbled forecourt, period light fittings, wrought ironwork, signage and architectural detailing all help to deliver a station building that belies it's age.

Kidderminster Town Station was further enhanced in 2006 with the addition of a restaurant and rather splendid double ridged, glazed roof concourse. The steelwork and columns are in a style consistent with the original era of the station buildings, which combined with the luggage, trolleys, benches and WH Smith newspaper kiosk, give an authentic atmosphere to the concourse area.

The station opens out to 3 platforms, beyond which in the distance, is the signal box and a pedestrian footbridge (a good vantage point for photographs - accessed from road at the side of football stadium). Beyond the footbridge is the only turntable currently on the line and the huge carriage shed.

At either side of the platforms at Kidderminster Station are 2 large warehouses built by the Great Western Railway, one housing Kidderminster Railway Museum and the other home to the Carriage Works and Paintshop.

The Friends of Kidderminster Town Station were established in 1993 to maintain the integrity of a 1920's GWR station. They undertake a wide range of projects from restoration of original GWR equipment to building exact replicas of items. Kidderminster Town Station has a large pay and display car park which may reach capacity on Bank Holidays. Other car parks are within walking distance in the town centre. There is a pub and gift shop within the station.

Kidderminster mainline (Birmingham to Worcester) station is right alongside the Severn Valley Railway station. This station has it's own large car park. Kidderminster is approximately 10 miles from the M5/M42 motorways.
