Madame Tussaud's

Madame Tussaud (originally Grosholtz) became the apprentice of her house keeper mother's employer, Dr Philippe Curtius, a waxwork model sculptor.

Madame Tussaud went on to become the art teacher for King Louis XVI's sister and at the time of the French Revolution she made death masks from the heads of prisoners who had been executed at the guillotine.

In 1794 Doctor Curtius died leaving his waxwork model collection to Madame Tussaud who moved to England in 1802.

Madame Tussaud's is world renowned for its exhibition of celebrity waxworks including The Queen, Prince Charles, David Beckham, Tiger Woods, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and many more.

Set in the heart of Fitzrovia, famed for its writers and artists, Fitzroy House was built in 1791 shortly after development was undertaken of this area. The original interior and current exterior imitate the designs of Robert Adam, celebrated Georgian-period architect.

Formerly inhabited by playwright George Bernard Shaw, Fitzroy is also where writer and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, worked in the 1950s. The library displays hundreds of Mr Hubbard's published works for which he was awarded 'Most Published Author' by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The building is reminiscent of the 1950's, complete with Adler typewriters, Grundig tape recorders and Western Union telefax.
