"Very nice cosy local village pub feel with open fires. "

The best food and English cooked breakfast I've had in a while. Very Friendly staff always willing to help.

Rooms need a little updating. Only a little.

    "Great. I would stay again."

Friendly, welcoming landlord. John was willing to go the extra mile to make sure our stay was everything we hoped. Large, clean, warm room. Crisp, white bedlinen and white fluffy towels. Fantastic food. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend the Royal Oak.

"Good dinner, good breakfast and efficient service overall"

Having booked on the net with no previous recommendations, we found a surprisingly pleasant venue and all that is necessary for an overnight stay.

    "Excellent service"

This was an excellent experience for us, we were welcomed and the staff were friendly and helpful. Curtesy was shown to us at all times which made our stay all the more enjoyable. Food was excellent and the 4 poster bed was a delight. Thank you all again for a wonderful stay. We will be recommeding your venue to all that visit the area.

"Had a fabulous relaxing break and we will defintely be returning!"

Gorgeous home cooked food, friendly staff and good location to access most of the sites in the local area. The unhurried approach by the staff made a nice change and my partner and I felt totally relaxed and glad we could just do whatever we wanted. Well done!!!

A bigger kettle in the room would be good, lol!

"I think we would have liked the main part of the hotel to be a little smarter, but we think that perhaps the hotel is undergoing renovations. However because the bedroom was so nice and the staff so helpful it didn`t seem to matter. Also the food served was very good and well presented."

The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The resturant was excellent and good value for money.

"Very friendly and accomodating staff, room spotless with everything in it that you need. Pub/restaurant part very nice, food good. A little out of the way but that suits us."

    Lovely and clean.

Nothing to dislike except that our room had one of those Saniflo toilet pump things which are a little noisy.

"Booking at the last minute, I was a little concerned as to the accomodation. All my worries evaporated when shown to the room. It was excellent. Food in the pub below was great for both evening meal and breakfast."

Excellent room, Great food and welcoming staff

"Our host made us very welcome from the minute we stepped through the door. Check-in was quick and we were immediately shown the room with effective explanations of the arrangements: breakfast, dinner etc. A few of the local villagers had gathered early evening to see Ireland v France in the Rugby World Cup and they made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was busy - probably best to book on arrival. Busy often means good, in this case it was excellent; the food on offer was fantastic. All washed down with a nice bottle of Rioja. Plenty of car parking space in the centre of the village only 3 minutes from the main coast road, 5 - 10 minutes from atmospheric Coniston Lake and about 10 minutes to Lakeside on tranquil Windermere where we spent a lovely day touring the lake by steamer. Room very clean and well equipped ironing board and iron, kettle, TV, bottled water etc. All in all it was a pleasure to stay in."

The room was spacious, having all the necessities, with exposed roof beams, very well decorated in neutral restful colours. Very quiet - just the sound of the stream rushing over the rocks at the rear. Ideally situated for the Southern Lakes. Food outstanding - beef in red wine sauce was probably the best red wine sauce I have tasted. Melt in your mouth stuff. Would stay again at the drop of a hat.

    Nothing to dislike.

"The proprietors were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was large, airy and well supplied with tea, coffee etc and bottled water beside each bed. Our evening meal was superb as was breakfast the following morning."

    Clean, warm and welcoming.
