"A decent place to stay for a night."

The hotel was conveniently located, had an interesting history, and the breakfast was good

Our room was right above the pub, so noise was a factor

"Good atmosphere and a warm and friendly venue."

Car park charge amounts in the multi storey and at the pub should be noted in the advert, we would have taken the train had we been aware of the overaul costs

    "Overall, great choice!"

Enjoyed our room - #7 - low ceilings, part of the older part of the hotel. Staff was extremely helpful as well. Recommended a wonderful Italian restaurant. Also liked the fact that the hotel was inside the city walls and everything was so close by.

Delivery and removal of kegs at 7:30am quite noisy this was a Monday morning - not sure that it happens all the time.

"The B&B is one of the oldest buildings in Chester so you must accommodate for the age of the building but there was no excuse for general dirt. The food served at the evening meal was lovely. The breakfast was horrible. I would not recommend this B&B to anyone."

Staff were friendly. The position of the B&B was great for seeing the city centre.

The room was dusty, mould in the bathroom room 11, the tap was dripping all night long if you attempted to turn it off the tap would 'squeal'. The room was cold, although they did give a storage heater you could plugin - this was broken! The cooked breakfast was swimming in grease. Bed throw was black with dirt!

    Good Food, Friendly Staff.

Parking is a problem, only three spaces. No parking for a van.

"We enjoyed our stay in Chester"

    Good value for city hotel

Found info getting to hotel misleading as found street names tended to be obscured and were easily missed. Parking info should be updated on website.

Great character, full of individuality, lovely old pub. Nice breakfast.

Room a bit tired but for me the character of the place more than made up for this.

"Unless the hotel replaces matresse it will lose bookings which would be a pity as it is quite good in other ways."

The breakfast was good and we had a nice evening meal in the bar - simple food well-cooked. The staff were polite and friendly.

We were in room 7 and the beds were terrible - hard and lumpy. We got very little sleep.

"We enjoyed our stay but would choose a different hotel if we returned."

Staff were very pleasant, cheerful and welcoming. The breakfast was of good quality and the rooms were quite large with adequate furniture.

Unfortunately one of the nights we were there there was a great deal of noise from people upstairs during the night and early morning. This was sorted out to our satisfaction the next day however. Also the shower curtain and bathroom generally were not very clean.

"Overall we enjoyed ourselves and in view of the location of the hotel and the character would consider returning in the future."

Staff extremely helpful. Excellent central location and hotel with much character. Nice breakfast. Competitive price.

Room quite hot and stuffy and sleeping difficult although weather was unseasonally warm. Dust under wardrobe. TV small and difficult to operate as had a separate digital box. No late extension to times of breakfast on Sunday, this ran only from 8am until 9am seven days a week. There is limited parking with a ten pound a night price tag, although staff very helpful in finding us room to park.

"We enjoyed our stay in the Pied Bull, becuase of its old looks and because Chester just has a special place in my heart. It's beautiful and I've been here in the Pied Bull for the third time now."

Very cosy place to stay and so originally old. Good breakfast and dinner.

A little noisy at the quizpub night. A little noisy outside as we were in bed.

great location, staff very helpful, neat creaky old building!

Except for breakfast, the food was horrid! extensive menu available all day.....so it all came out of the freezer or can. We saw no one else eating there, the locals must be smarter than we were.

"We had a lovely stay and thought the hotel was very good value for money. However, the owner left a lot to be desired. He really wasn't very friendly and left a nasty, bitter after-taste. It is for this reason that we probably won't be staying again. Many thanks, Katy"

The waitress was outstanding. Such a lovely and welcoming member of staff. We also loved the hotel/pub overall - it was very cosy and traditional. Very good value for money.

We were in a party of 16 and we all agreed that the male owner was quite rude and abrupt to most of us. Based on the assumption that a 'hen party' was going to cause trouble. I'd advise that he remember that not all customers are the same and should therefore be treated with respect.

Sofa unusable, bed as old as the hotel, tv picture terrible. On check out we were not even asked about our stay.

"Brilliant location and very friendly staff. For a night out in Chester this place is perfect. Some of the bedding was a little tatty but we didn't go for that!"

Ideal location. Parking in the nearby carpark was very easy and only cost £4 as we arrived after 3pm and left just after 10am. Staff were very friendly and food in the pub was good. Would definitely use this B & B again. We have already recommended it to friends!

We booked a double room and we had to have a twin room although the pub did ring us to ckeck this would be ok before we arrived. The bedding could do with a re-vamp, some was ripped and the breakfast was a bit on the small side! We were a little disappointed that all the signs said £65 per night when we arrived, even though we paid £70 over the internet?

    "Awful"

The room was shabby and in need of a refurb. The shower couldn't be turned off; the trouser press fell off the wall when I tried to use it. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. When I arrived for breakfast at 8.30 service closing at 9am I asked for croissants only to be told that they hadn't arrived yet. The woman serving breakfast could clearly be seen serving other guests and then going off to mop behind the bar and clean the pub.

    "Enjoyable. I'd stay there again."

Very convenient location in town centre close to the Cathedral, Walls, Town Hall and Rows. Situated in a very interesting historic building, which is also a pub with some decent beers. Staff were helpful.

Breakfast was good. However, the window for breakfast on Sunday was fairly short 8-9am and early. Staff, although helpful, had to struggle to serve everybody. It would have made more sense to extend the window by half-an-hour. There is no car parking, which may be an issue for some, although you can drive to the front of the hotel and drop bags etc. with one of the party.

Lovely pub/hotel with character, friendly staff and good service.

The original booking was for a couple staying in a double room. My plans changed to travelling alone but I was unable to downgrade the room and wasn't given any discount despite less meals being required/provided.

"The pub was centrally located in the centre of Chester right next to Northgate and access to the city walled walk. They did very good affordable food and Staff were friendly. The breakfast included in the booking was excellent too. Would definitely go back again for special occasions - one suggestion, perhaps a discount could be available if you were staying more than 2/3 nights?"

Atmospheric - very clean - everything in room you could need for the stay and all worked. Very spacious.

Would be nice if you could pre-book a table if you wanted to eat in for an evening meal. You had to take your chances that a table would be available or stand.
