"Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was definitely not value for money in any way and we will not stay there again."
Location for walks.
Extremely dated hotel. The room we stayed in was very small and damp. Not quaint but poor. When we asked what time check in was, they replied that it was 2pm but may be 4pm as they were very busy as they had a wedding on. During the night our room door was knocked upon 3 times. In the morning we complained to the manager, who said that there was nothing she could do as we had not reported it in the night. We explained that by discussing the situation at 2am in the morning would have only disturbed us further, which is why we did not report it until the morning. She refused to compensate us in any way.

"the staff were pleasant and helpful, the room disappointing, the breakfast good."
clean, friendly, good breakfast, pleasant receptionist/bar staff
poor quality of furnishings in the family that we were in,kept stubbing my toe on the television table!

"Overall good, considering the price. Pool was an added bonus."
Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.
Room; one wall was visibly damp. There was hair in the bedside drawer.

"good points outweighed the noise "
friendly staff, room requirements met, very clean
noise when staying in rooms above the bar area and the main road is very noisy if you are located in the front of the hotel

"Very poor hotel for the money. If it had been me and not my company who was paying I would have been more vocal in my opinion."

"Outstanding."
A perfect balance of efficiency and friendliness from the staff, coupled with comfortable well-appointed accomodation and facilities.
None specific to the hotel, though it was very difficult to get a taxi when we were leaving.

"I feel that the hotel was vastly overpriced for a completely shambolic expwerience. We were charged £146 for a family room and after our experience £46 would have ben too much. On the Sunday evening we asked where we could get food round the Newby Brisge area and were advised the Swan but very expensive. So we travelled 10 miles to Ulverston and still still did not manage to find anywhere other than local take away. I was amazed upon returning to the hotel to find them serving bar meals, which could have saved us a 20 mile round trip plus 3 hours that we wasted. In view of the fact that it was Bank Holiday Monday, surely someone at the hotel should have known that the majority of guests would arrive for breakfast towards the end of the breakfast period and would have ensured that there were sufficient staff to meet demand. The whole breakfast experience was summed up when water started to come through the ceiling on to a adjoining table. When checking out we were asked had we enjoyed our stay and when we complained, we got the response that there is little that we can do when we are so short staffed. That is not my problem , the hotel should have ensured sufficient staffing levels!!! A formal letter of complaint will be sent to the hotel directly"
Hotel was reasonably clean, lovely setting at the bottom of Lake Windermere
Breakfast was like a scene out of Fawlty Towers, completely shambolic. They ran out or cuttllery, crockery , milk orange juice, toast was cold, insufficient staff and insugficient room in restaurant

"Found the hotel to have a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly. Disappointed that the bar closed after normal hours and did not cater for guests 'after hours' drinking. Breakfast was excellent. Views of the lake from hotel frontage were very pleasant. We did not realise, when booking, that the hotel would be situated in such a comparatively isolated location. The stay was my present to my parents to celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary and overall we all enjoyed our stay."
Adequate room facilities although furnishings and decor a bit jaded.
As above, the building is obviously very old but the room we stayed in did feel 'jaded'.

"Overall a decent hotel with excellent staff and I would recommend it to people however, I do have a problem with the hotel and it only applies to the room I was given. The brochure in the hotel indicated the bar shut at 11.00pm which it did but I was kept awake by people staying in the bar up until 12.30am. If they were guest at the hotel then I wouldnt have had a problem with but they werent which I found annoying."
Good food, excellent waiter service, friendly staff.
Being given the room above the bar.

"The hotel looked lovely when we pulled in the carpark, the staff and reception were good too. The room was the worse one we had ever stayed in. We booked and paid a premium for a four poster bed with jacuzzi. We eneded up with a bed that looked like something from the bargain bin from MFI. The room wasnt big enough to take the bed, we hit our heads on the inappropriately placed TV on the wall. The room was freezing cold and the bathroom was a disgrace. The bathroom was literally too cold to use, we had to get dressed to have a wash! The bathroom was mouldy and damp."
The view
We believe we were mis-sold a four poster bed room, we ended up with a bed that looked like it had come from MFI and not the one shown on the website or the brochure.

"The experience was much better than expected, bearing in mind the modest charges. The food was good quality, the staff friendly and helpful and the accommodation clean and comfortable. We shall recommend the hotel to friends and family, confident you will not let us down."
The chalet residence, remote from the main building was very pleasing in all aspects and also had the added advantage of a greater degree of privacy than is normal in a hotel.

"From previous visits to the area we knew the hotel's situation and this was fine for our purpose. However, to claim views of Lake Windermere is stretching the imagination. Also, our room was in an annexe. This was not a problem to us but others may have found it so. We had dinner in the restaurant both nights and the menu was adequate but not excitingly so, especially on the Sunday evening. We felt that this meal was expensive for what was on offer. The room was fine except for the lack of two chairs -apart from a small stool the only place to sit was on the bed."
The hotel offered a reasonable standard of comfort, was conveniently situated and our room was clean and spacious.
The room would have benefited from having two easy chairs in which to relax. Apart from a small stool the only place to sit was on the bed.

"On talking to other guests, it sounded like pot luck whether you got a refurbed room or not. Some of the rooms sounded lovely and others were old and tired - it sounds like the hotel is in the process of updating the accomodation. The pool area was nice, and the bar was nice. The staff were very obliging and friendly. I have highlighted that I would recommend this hotel, but I would tell people to request their room."
The staff were really friendly, and very helpful. We also had a meal in the bar which was very good.
Our room was clean, but tired. The bathroom had been refurb but the actual room contained old furniture and was ready for refurb.

I got a late booking easily via the internet. It was close to my destination.
Distinctly average room, a little shabby and ridiculous piped music at breakfast!

"Poor value for money. Room was small, although one of the better rooms. Smelly around the hotel due to waste facility. Room not cleaned properly. Generally disappointing, although the location was nice."

"Staff were very helpful and pleasent, but the standard of the first room offered was unacceptable by most standards. Itw as february and the place was not warm albeit the final bedroom was."
We complained about the room room 8 the receptionist found another. Although we were asked to vacate that one as it was booked for someone else she was pleasant and apologetic. The staff were all genial and helpful. The final room was good 29.
First room offered was very poor, the bathroom smelled of the toilet and damp, the matress was on a hard board, the wardrobe dirty inside with bolts on the outside, lamps were not working. It was dark and mismatched furniture. The fir in the lounge was 'out of order' as the chimney needed sweeping, why it wasnt swept was unknown. This was important as it was too cold on that day to spend time in the lounge so we went to another hotel for a drink and a meal.
