"We had a wonderful stay at the hotel and would definitely go there again. The staff were wonderful - friendly, helpful and humourous! Although we only stayed for 2 nights, we both felt relaxed after our first night there! Thank you so much."
Booking online through booking.com caused problems as it did not register with the hotel we were staying in and this only came to light when I called the hotel after completing the booking to arrange for twin beds. If I hadn't made that call, it would have been very likely that the hotel would have booked our room out and we would have made the journey with nowhere to stay!

"Overall it was a good stay, perfect for a stop over en route back home to London from North Wales. The room was comfortable, though it would have been nice to have working bedside lamps, and there was nobody around to report the problem. When we arrived, it took a while before someone came to let us in, the proprietor took my payment straight away, and there was a lack of personal service. However, when we went down for breakfast, the chef came out and asked us exactly what we wanted, and apologised for not having been there when we arrived. That said, there was no one around when we checked out at 10.00, and again I had to wait to hand in my keys. It would be nice to have someone on reception at a hotel as much as possible."
Good location, easy access to Chester City Centre. Good breakfast, comfortable room.
Lack of personal service. Bedside lamps did not work. Notice in the room stating that if you didn't check out by a certain time, you would be charged at an hourly rate, regardless of whether you were 5 minutes or 1 hour late, and if you didn't have your breakfast at the stated time, you would forfeit your right to have it.

"Our stay was very relaxing with good food and very friendly staff. would recommend to others."
It was central to Chester so we could walk into the town centre and not have to worry about finding somewhere to park.

"Ok but don't feel would stay there again - prefer to stay at a proper hotel instead of a guest house/B & B place - which is what this was, to me despite being named on Active Hotels as Chester Guesthouse HOTEL."
Staff helpful and very knowledgable of the area, providing details of transport links, places of interest etc. Free internet access in room which was very fast and unlimited use.
Was not aware until I arrived that could not eat in my room would not have stayed otherwise, because as a solo traveller, I often like this freedom to eat in private; room ok but bathroom smelt a little damp, paint peeling in places and the breakfast was not nice bacon not well cooked and the muffin and egg tasteless. Shower temperamental with hot water only very hot for a few seconds then lukewarm and not very powerful. Would have apprecited some blinds in the bedroom, as least as had to draw them in the day and put lights on as there were houses near my room, meaning people could see in. Location ok but a bit of walk from the station through some little steps, which didn't really feel safe. Also, I had to pay as I got to the hotel and I wanted to pay cash, but had no choice as I had not enough cash on me, so had to use my debit card which, incidentally, had already been pre-authorised at the time of booking - not happy about this and if this is the case, what's the point in using Active Hotels??
