"Disappointing - deluxe room was a bit run down. "

Deluxe room was a good size. Excellent location for dining and shopping possibilities. Nice touch in the welcome drink + snack. The "grab and go" breakfast was a very good service. Staff polite. Good connections with rapid taxi service.

1 The heating was not functioning properly in the room - two cold radiators where the thermostats had been removed - and a cold towel rail in the bathroom. We were given two extra blankets after a cold first night. However, despite having reported the problem on Day 2, it was still not fixed on the morning of Day 5 checkout. 2 Taps were wobbly and toilet did not flush properly. 3 On some days, towels removed and the total number not replaced.

"It was close to everything in the city. Most of the staff were very nice and helpfull."

very nice young man on reception, very friendly, pleasant and helpfull, not sure about the female one that checked us in though. Thought the complementary breakfast was excellent.

Doors from other rooms closing can wake you up. We stayed in a delux room for two nights and standared double for one, payed more for standared double! and apart form the size in room couldn't find any difference between the rooms.

    Excellent staff attitude.

No power point by the bed to charge mobile phone - if you set a wake up alarm in your phone, you don't want to walk across the room to stop it in the morning!!!

"Nice hotel for a 1 night stay."

Nice relaxed hotel. Well situated with easy overnight parking. Staff at all times were excellent.

Room was too hot and stuffy. Asked for 2 rooms together, rooms in different buildings almost! A bit noisey when local clubs were emptying, but OK.

Warm greeting by staff. Brillaint bed!

Only one chair in the room when the room was for two. The hot tap was faulty at the toilet sink.

"would use this hotel again, however would not want to be put in the basement"

    good staff, clean room,

did not like the idea of my room being in basement, not enough light, bad views

"Staying at the City Hotel was a delight and did not disappoint. Interiors are very spacious, clean, bright and airy. The building is in historic Glasgow centre and exudes a mixture of grandness and simplicity. The staff are friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy working there. I'd left a hopeful email requesting soya milk and there it was at breakfast. And my conference meeting was taking place right next door. It was was all very effortless and enjoyable."

Clean and modern but within setting of beautiful old building. Staff friendly and very professional with attention to detail.

In my single room I could not reach the windows which were situated high in the room.

"The above says most of what i want to say. The room was good, the staff courteous, but a few things were a big let-down."

The room was large, comfortable and warm.

    1. Worst hotel breakfast ever. Instant coffee and cellophane-wrapped pastries in a windowless underground bunker, with no-on clearing tables. 2. 'Free' mini bar contained half-bottle of wine, bottle of water and half a bottle of dry ginger presumably from the previous occupant. 3. Clean finger marks in the dirt on the bathroom door room 301.

"I would have liked to have been informed that we were not able to have a twin room and that the room was small. This was important as we were staying for four nights."

The hotel was quiet and the staff were polite and helpful.

I had requested a twin room, however my female colleague and I had to share a small standard double room. There was insuffient space for our luggage and for us to move around the room. The were no spare toilet rolls and one morning, the hot water had not come on by 7.00am, which meant that we had to have cold showers.

"With only 5 tables that seat 4 people each it was difficult to relax while other guests were waiting to sit down. There was no cereal, fruit or even fresh milk...... all the food was prepacked with no healthy options. I was sincerely disappointed, as was my partner. We ended up with toast and jam and a prepacked muffin ;-"

The room was large, modern and peaceful. The Bathroom was a good size and it was spotless.

Hotel is situated just off main high street making it very convenient for bars, resteraunts and shopping

The hotel has no parking. There is a car park right beside the hotel and there is on street parking. Car parking will cost you for your whole stay but if you want to save on this street parking is free after 6pm on weekdays and from 6pm Saturday to 8am Monday.

"This hotel is in a convenient location, yet is quiet. Rooms are small yet comfortable; very comfy bed, large TV, complimentary drinks, good bathroom. However the breakfast which was included in price was not very good, and the paid breakfast had very little choice. Breakfast room so tiny people were falling over each other."

Quiet yet central location, comfortable room

Breakfast choice very poor even when paid for; not much in way of facilities

"We requested an extra bed in the room as there was three of us when booking through active hotels. But when we arrived at the hotel, the hotel did not seem to know anything about this. They did not have any extra beds on that night and my daughter had to sleep on a duvet on the floor. However, the staff could not have been more apologetic and helpful on getting us settled. Easily the most helpful staff I have ever come across. We got to choose between 2 rooms and we chose the quietest one. We got our extra bed on the next night. If you have any special requests, i would suggest you ring the hotel directly on the night before to confirm your requirements. Visitorwise, we had an enjoyable stay."

It was very quiet. It was old, yet nicely renovated and very comfortable.

No lifts was a little inconvenient with all the luggage.

"a good hotel, however we were disappointed with the lack of superiority our room had!"

    nice decoration, clean

room in basement, halls laiden with cleaning materials/bags, chatting staff in our corridor. our room was little more than the basic style after having upgraded to a superior suite, a little disappointing

"Overall the hotel was clean the room was nice, but cold water coming out of the hot tap wasn't good especially as it was hotter than the hot water coming out of the hot tap. Having had a Suite i would have thought that they would have been on the top floor and not the lower ground floor as the room was very dark and we had to have a light on all the time. I didn't like the fact that if the blind was pulled up people could look straight into the room."

Hotel situated in a good area of Glasgow. Hotel was clean and the staff very friednly and able to help with any prolems.

Sitaution of room the window was on a road with people walking by so had to have the blind down all the time. Hot water came out of the cold tap. The room wasn't very warm but the corridor was boiling hot. The door to the room could do with being replaced as the light from the corridor came through and everytime someone walked by the room the door shock waking us up. Breakfast should have been icluded in the price if the stay.

"The room was very nicley decorated, which made the stay a pleasure. The noise was a little off putting, at 3am but a cheap pair of ear plugs sorted that! The free mini bar was good, but it would have been nice to know in advance it was whiskey and gin neither of which i like, but my boyfriend made short work of the gin! I would definately stay again, as the location was excellent. Tricia and Lex. 6 Feb 2007."

The room was more than adequate. Very spacious and clean.

It was a bit too noisey, albeit the City Centre, i didn't expect to get a huge crashing noise during the night!!! No idea what it was but i decide to put in ear plugs at 3am and then slept like a baby!

we were moved from room 103 to room 203. room 203 was a very nice, spacious room, with good facilities. Free minibar was well stocked, and 'plasma tv' with satellite channels was great.

in the original room we were allocated 103the T.V didn't work properly no satellite tv and a very bad picture. The actual room itself was spacious and very nice, and we would have been happy to stay in the room if the TV had worked.

"4* hotel. 1* service. The room was excellent, lovely plush carpet, comfy bed and a decent shower. On the downside the promised wireless internet service did not work at all despite repeated promises from staff that it was being looked at. Minibar was sparse and not restocked so discount that as a reason for booking this hotel! The maid service on two of our nights was poor to say the least, dirty cups and glasses left on the side, bin not emptied. However its a nice hotel in a decent location, they just need to improve the service and it will be just about perfect."

The room was nice, well furnished, comfy bed and nice bathroom. Minibar had wine and mixers in.

Wireless internet was not working for all 4 days of our stay. Maid service left a lot to be desired.

"This hotel has a great location in the centre of Glasgow, particularly if you are visiting the Kings Theatre which is less that 50 metres up the road. There is also plenty night life, bars and clubs agai just up into Sauchiehall Street. The Buchanan Street galleries are a ten or so minute walk for those interested in a bit of retail therapy. As for the hotel itself, it's layout is different to your standard hotel as it's a converted town house, however, this shouldnt put you off. The staff were friendly and the check in process was nice and quick. The room itself was spacious with a massive bed and it was well equiped with everything you would need for your night's stay. The mini bar, which is free, was a welcome treat, and it was well stocked with wine, beer, gin and whisky plus mixers. Overall i was really happy with the hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Glasgow."

Nice spacious room, massive bed and free mini bar which was well stocked. It had a seperate seating area with a plasma television and also a plasma tele in the bedroom itself. Plenty of space to hang clothes should you need to. Bathroom was fine if nothing overly special.

The holder for the shower head was broken, however, after some careful maneouvering we managed to get it to stick

"Overall quite good facilities if you are interested in spending time away from the hotel. General public areas are not particularly good and there is no bar. Breakfast was nearly "

We stopped in a superior room. It was clean, comfortable and had all of the amenities you needed. There was also a nice touch with the 'free' mini bar although this was not fully restocked each day. The hotel was also in a good location, walkable distance to shops and close to the wonderful Glasgow School of Art...the library is a wonder to behold.

No major problems but there was insufficient attention to detail; for example there was only enough milk in the room for half a cup of tea, bathroom shower gels etc were not replaced and the mini bar was not fully replenished. Don't be put off by this though..overall experience was fair to good.

"The hotel was very nice however we should have had a superior room but feel that this was not the case when we queried this upon checking out they stated that it was a superior room however we went with another couple who were supposed to be in a double, their room was larger and had a tv and a dvd player which i believe from the description of the superior room we should have had but didn't"
