"Poor stay. Will not use this hotel or this web site again as web site stated 4 star hotel - this was more like in my experience a 2 star hotel."
Good central location. Good breakfast.
6 flights of srairs up with out of order lift. Windows unable to close correctly so wind and rain entered room. This also caused alot of noise - only got 3 hours sleep on our stay. Light shade scaleded from to high voltage bulb - fire risk. Sock placed over smoke alarm detector by previous guest - fire risk. Empty can of drink still on window ledge from previous guest. Toliet system lose. Shower tap broke off in my hand.

"It was ok that would be my general opinion the young girl on reception made it that as she was excellent, but for what we wanted and the price I would not have expected much more but 4 star I dont think so Imy resorts are 4-5 star and are way above the standard of this. The bar below was not too noisy for me at night but for elderly people who gnerally stay in this area it must be awful"
The young girl who checked us in was superb bubbly fun and just fab I work for Diamond Resorts a large chain and I would give her a job anytime please pass this one. She really is wasted there unless maybe she is the owners daughter!!!
Well there were not too many the worst being the coffee & tea at breakfast, there is no need in this day and age to serve vast thermos of tea and coffee which wtastes like dishwater and bore no resemblane to coffee or tea it was truly foul. Just leave boling water in flasks if you have to, it was not drinkable. Also there really should be someone on reception in the morning so you can purchase your parking card if brekfast starts at 7.30am as it did then I would expect someone on recepton. Please appreciate I am speaking from someone who comes from this industry.

"Position of hotel in vibrant part of Eastbourne, very convenient for everything including local taxis and transport"
Friendly staff, good sized rooms, good views
bags of laundry in entrance hall only moved on sat am and on each landing, no chairs in room, no bedside light. Bath/shower fitting came off in hand. Shower via mixer taps with poor results

The hotel is run as a "family" hotel, which was reflecte din the attitude of the hotel at all times. The staff couldn't do enough for guest. They were helpful, friendly and courteous. My mother who is 90 years of age accompanied me on the stay and was very impressed with the standard of friendliness and helpfulness at all times.Quality Customer Service is a "buzzword" nowaday's but is clearly inculcated amonst staff and embedded down in the cultur eof the hotel. The hotel represnts excellent value-for-money and is located directly opposite Eastbourne Pier and adjoining promenade which is an essential feature to experience the character charm of holidays by the sea from the bygone era of Victorial England.
The only concern is that the elevator is not functioning, but here again the hotel took cognizance of my mother's inability to climb stairs on account of her age. They agreed to relocate us from the second floor to rooms on the first floor, with pictureque views of the pier and the promenade at no extra charge.

Friendly staff
Failed to inform the time breakfast would start and finish. Staff at times seemed pre-occuppied and disinterested in their guests.

"We enjoyed our stay at your hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful which makes up for the hotel being old and in need of a refurbishment."
Although the hotel was old the staff and cleanliness was excellent. Food very abundent and good.
The tv remote controll did not work but we forgot to inform the staff. Wednesday evening it is students night on the pier and was very noisey late at night.

"The hotel itself is a little quirky uneven floors but with the friendly staff and management it all added to a great atmosphere."
Staff and management have made us feel very welcome and have not hesitated at all when asked to accommodate extra requests during our stay. The facilities were bright, the breakfast was good quality coffee see belowand the cooked food was served hot.
Things are a little disorganised and unfortunately the coffee appeared to be instant coffee.

" Would recommend it."
A warm confident welcome. Immediatly sorted our parking with a voucher. Allowed us to book in early as the room was ready. The room was very comfortable and pleasant, overlooking the pier and sea. Bed very comfortable. Tea, coffee and biscuits. Everything very clean and crisp. We were warned a pack of rugby players would be staying and could be noisy, - they weren't. Breakfast excellent. Greeted by same lady, young child soon appeared adding to warm and friendly atmosphere. Everyone working efficiently on our behalf. Breakfast large and freshly cooked.
It wasn't uppercrust plush, it had retained Victorian character, I personally liked that.

Nice location, nice food.
Bar below the hotel kept me awake with loud music on a Monday night, Windows were very drafty so the room was quite cold, was stated i would have satalite/digital TV and i didnt, wireless internet was also not available so i had to pay to use another service.

"Stay was very quite which is what we wanted. "
Have stayed in this hotel when it was under a family management and it was always very pleasant to stay there. The atmosphere in the eating area and the hotel generally was always very pleasant and homely, with the manager and his wife always cleaning or doing something around the hotel, but never to busy to talk to you. This we found missing on our last visit.
Lamp in room was not working. I told hotel staff when leaving and they were going to see to it. Lots of stairs and no lift in use.

"A rather disappointing experience due to several problems. Have e-mailed explaining this in greater detail but generally would not recommend this hotel at the present. Perhaps it would be better to close the hotel temporarily under these circumstances and re-open when everything is in a good order."
Lovely sea view; historic building; plenty of hot water; nice bathroom; clean bedding; comfortable bed; quiet hotel; new managers apologising for any problems and subsequently generously offering 2 nights free stay with meal plus wine as compensation for the problems experienced - see 'bad points'.
Understood that The Pier was a 4* hotel because of the internet search but apparently it is a 4* Guest House equivalent so this was misleading; new managers just taken over and were not yet ready to receive guests; refurbishment ongoing so rather chaotic; no heating on two floors consequently changed room three times; bags of dirty bedlinen around some floors and staircases; heated towel rail in bathroom not on so bathroom very cold; bedside light not working; had to remake the bed as the sheet was over the duvet; a leaking window in the bathroom; owner's dog wandering around in what we thought was a "no pets hotel"; owner's dog fouling on carpet in dining room at breakfast; no other guests staying on the same night as us.

The Pier Hotel is a very welcoming hotel ..... you are made to feel that nothing is too much. Good views and right on the seafront facing the PIER ... very near to all amenieties.
As it is on the seafront you get some noise

"We both enjoyed our stay very much. The welcome was warm and the staff very friendly. The weather was an added bonus in early October All-in-all a good short stay"
Location to sea front, shops and my office , friendly staff, breakfasts very good
None really to mention. Parking is a problem but thats the same about most Eastbourne hotels.

"Ideal for insomniacs!"
It was centrally located, close to all amenities, and on the seafront.
Although no fault of the hotel, there is a night club at the end of the pier and the people emerging from the nightclub kept us awake for most of the night. The room was very small and, although we had booked a room with a view of the sea, we had to stand up to say out of the windows which were positioned high up in the wall.

good position at seafront, friendly staff I had a room with seaview, low budget
very loud at night from party in a club nearby and additional from the traffic noise

"It was fine for the room rate but wouldn't pay more than that."
Close to conference venue. Room good size. free wi-fi in rooms
pillows were so flat that even sleeping on 2 was thinner than 1 average pillow; one member of staff was less than courteous.

"The hotel/guest house is reasonably priced and is in a good central location. The night club revellers tend to make a great deal of noise from 2-3.30am and a sea view room with windows open is not a sensible choice."
Excellent Breakfast Pleasant Breakfast room and Bar
Little or no information about the hotel procedures Confusion about the restaurant-it is not clear that it is not run by the hotel-and there is still the restaurant sign pointing into the hotel Rooms were adequate but bathroom was basic with no space for towels and TV was basic with no remote Payment of breakfast should be made clear-is it after each brreakfast or at the end of the stay? Why cant it be one bill bed and breakfast?

"We would definitely recommend the Pier Hotel to others. The price was right and the staff were fantastic! E & N from Ontario, Canada"
The hotel managers, Rupert & Alison Sutton, were amazing! We were impressed by their professionalism, their hospitality and their personal attention to details! The hotel room was quite adequate and very clean. Food was wonderfully made and served, their service was fantastic! The hotel location was excellent. We totally enjoyed meeting the managers and plan to stay in touch.
Hard to say; other than perhaps the lack of view from the room we were in on the opposite side of the building, away from the sea.

"Very good and relaxing."
The couple in charge of the Hotel could not have been more pleasant & helpful and the food was excellent. The main rooms were very attractive & clean. The Rooms were adequate given the age of the Hotel and the staff kept the place very clean.
The only complaints I have were. 1. When booking I advised the person I booked with that my elderley parents would not be able to climb stairs and was told that a first floor twin bedded room was available. When we got to the Hotel it was a second floor room only Double rooms were on the first floor. My parents who are in their 80's struggled to get up the three flights. 2. The rooms were at the front of the Hotel with a sea view overlooking the pier. We had problems a couple of nights with hoards of people attending events on the Pier from 11.30 until 4 am. If I had known this I would have booked a Hotel further along the promendae. The couple in charge of the Hotel Alison & Rupert have made endless complaints to the council and have asked the owners of the Hotel to install double glazing to make the rooms more sound proof.

"One of the best hotel experiences I've had in a long time - 100% top notch."
This hotel was fantastic in all respects. Rupert the owner and his lovely wife were sooo helpful with everything we needed and always there with a smile and patience for our large group. I would gladly stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well located, good value, clean wonderful hotel in Eastbourne.
We didn't have the chance to try the food due to the timing of our visit - the menu looked fantastic though and I wish we could have sampled some of Rupert's cuisine...next time.

There should be an elevator as climbing the stairs with luggage is very difficult for some people.

"Stayed for new years eve made a great end to 2009 and lovely start to 2010 eating breakfast in the dining room overlooking the sea!! "
Lovely room, overlooking the pier, very bright and comfortable, nice young helpful receptionist.
Would have liked a greater breakfast choice but overall was very nice.
