"Wanted a place to securely leave our bags, forget the car, and explore York and it's attractions, and at a reasonable rate. Holgate Bridge Hotel gave us exactly what we wanted, and will book again next year."
Location. Quiet; facilities very good; clealiness; good food; easy access to York centre within walking distance. cost very good value.
Previous tenants using window for disposing of cigarrette ends, in a non-smoking room?

"I would not choose to visit York again. I had a general feeling of being asked to pay over the odds all weekend, with the exception of a very good Italian resturaunt near to the hotel. I was particularly angered with the price of parking once out of the hotel. I was transporting a piece of heavy equipment for a friend who had come to York to do a course, and so needed to take my car"

"The accommodation was clean and comfortable and met our need for a central location in York and with private car parking facility. However it is a misnomer to refer to a B & B as a 'hotel.'"
Helpful staff. Comfortable accommodation. Excellent breakfast. Private car parking facility. Central location.
For a couple like ourselves near 80 years of age accommodation on higher floors without an elevator facility means a struggle to carry more than one case at a time up quite steep carpeted stairways.

"Very good."
Good location to city centre 10 minute walk.

"Reasonable hotel more of a B&B really."
Great breakfasts
we stayed in a family rom at the front of the hotel & the main road was very noisy with the window open.

"Enjoyed the weekend but would not stay here again because it is too far to walk into city centre."
the rooms where clean and staff very friendly. Not a hotel just a guest house
Dining room very small some guests had to wait for others to finish before they could be seated for breakfast and tables only large enough to seat 3 people also the website said it was 10 miutes walk into the city, more like 20.

good location, parking included. Good bar on way to York centre, called Brigantes.

Comfortable beds and fair location. Noise, as seen in some reviews, was not a problem at all.
Shower and bath were less than satisfactory. Heater didn't work on the second night.

"was ok, manageress was nice, its a simple functioning place - no glamour and suitable for those planning to simply have somewhere to sleep."
nice, simple, good basic facilities.
a couple of requests made inappropriately - 'are you going out so i can clean the room?' 'check out is at 10.30!' made at 10.15 whilst we were putting our coats on! Everything self sufficient - not really any effort made

"More than adequate. Would recommend it."
Decent place and location. Pleased to find it as we only booked a couple of days beforehand. Private parking available, which is important in York.
No en-suite bathroom. The sausages were disappointing at breakfast.

"Close to the city centre, easy to get to and from. Nice surroundings and friendly, hlepful staff - they lent me a hairdryer!"
The hotel was clean, comfortable and with an ensuite. The inclusive breakfast was excellent.
The TV in the room did not work, although the aerial may have been loose - the weather was very bad. And we were only there one night, so it wasn't a major problem.

"We thought the staff and facilities were well beyond our expectations as we haven't booked via the web before. We would definately use again when in the area. The check-in/out times were very reasonable and all in all, we were very impressed."
The staff, the en suite room, the parking, the breakfast
absolutely nothing

"Will be likely to visit York again, but will not book this Hotel again."
Conveniently located for visiting tourist attractions & good parking facilities. Comfortable bed.
Expensive for the facilities offered. One towel only per guest no hand towels. Broken, damaged and not working items in the room. Main staircase creaked very loudly and felt unsafe. Cramped breakfast room, with no self serve option.

"Was a decent stay if a little tiring!."
Positioned near the centre and room was fine.
Noisy guests coming back through the night, mattress cover too small for the bed and came adrift in the middle of the night, and not enough bedding - not a great night sleep!

room needs an overhaul and decorating ,but in saying that for the money we paid it was adequate for a short stay
stayed on March 27, 2008
clean and the staff were friendly breakfast very good
room needed modernising and was quite small you could also hear people in next room snooring as the walls were very thin
stayed on February 27, 2008
"It turned out to be a B&B,not a hotel. We got little sleep because of the traffic outside for most of the night. Every time the front door was opened during the night we could hear every sound of the door. This place was not worth the £80 pounds paid."
Efficient staff at breakfast
Night noise, smell of cooking fat, sparing on heating

"Our stay was good - the accommodation could have been better however, we used this as a base for our stay only & used the room very little apart from sleeping & breakfast - overall we would stay at the hotel again purely for the location - 5 minute walk from the City Centre."
Locality - close to the city centre
low level room - heating in the room was noisey

good adequate breakfast. close to all ammenities. cheerfull staff.

While I'm used to staying in small hotels, I'm afraid this is probably one of the most basic I've stayed in. The room was bare, apart from a basic wardrobe and the beds. And I just felt depressed by the whole feel and look of the buildings interior.
from Nottingham UK, stayed on September 29, 2007
"We were under the impression that it was an Hotel, however as there was no lift ,no lounge area and no meals other than breakfast it should be made clear that this is a B@B . It was value for money but We cannot recommend it as an hotel but would refer it to younger people who want an economic B@B."
Good breakfast, pleasant staff, reasonable prices.
Many steps up to the room, As an elderly guest it was a struggle. No help offered with luggage.

"Holgate Bridge provides an adequate standard of accommodation for a short stay in the centre of York. Access to the city centre is excellent with most of the city attractions are within 15 minutes walk. Staff are helpful, but offer a limited service."
Excellent location, staff are efficient and helpful.
Furnishings are dated. Hotel is located by a busy road / crossing so rooms can be subject to noise.
