helpful staff. got moved quickly to a new room.

first room far too hot. it was only march. we did not have our radiators on and it was very hot. As we went up the stairs it got hotter. Pillow covers that matched bedding looked unclean.

    "Good value for money"

Hotel was lovely and the staff worked very hard to make the stay enjoyable.

Food in the restaurant at the hotel did not live up to the rest of the experience.

The service in the restaurant was excellent

I had paid the suplement for a superior room. Having stayed in the hotel pn several previous occasions I was dissappointed with the room allocated and did not feel it was as nice as the others. The previous superior rooms had all been on the first floor and were beautiful with exceptional bathrooms. This one had a pokey bathroom and although the bedroom was large it looked tired and in need of decorating

"Could be good if you like noise. The hotel itself is situated in it's own grounds close to the river which enabled my wife and I to take some nice walks. We only ate a cooked breakfast on the first morning but the food was cold along with the plates. The staff were friendly and courteous. "

    Polite staff and clean room

Room far too hot and very little ventilation, no view from window and there was a wedding reception and a disco that went on until the early hours.

Great hotel, very efficient and friendly staff.

The hotel is a three storey listed building without a lift! My room was on the second floor and I felt a bit stuck there as I am not very mobile. I feel the hotel's website or staff on reception when booking should advise potential guests of this.

    excellent staff

10 large spiders discovered on the ceiling when going to bed, and being high ceilings I had to get dressed and fetch a member of the staff

"apart of the two remarques, close to perfection"

    close to perfection

when there are rooms with old doors between, the doors should be better isolated wedding party camping under our window on saturday was rather noisy, would have been better if oriented to the terras next to the tent

"The old atmosphere was wonderful the staff did try but not a Four Star establishment!"

    garden were nice

The rooms were dirty black finger marks on doors, head boards on beads were black and dirty, stained carpets and furniture. Furniture needed to be repaired. Air conditioning would be a benfit as our room was supposed to over look the garden instead we looked over the garbage so bugs were an issue with the window open. Limited food menu and breakfast buffet was not replenished was food was being taken.

"Despite above, room and surroundings very good and out weighed any negatives. Bathroom door did not fit which was minor problem and I alerted the hotel on departure to this and seemingly taken seriously."

    Excellent Hotel and surroundings

Two wedding parties so felt a bit awkward on night of arrival. Could have been reasured/directed as to where we should go for our own comfort. A bit unclear as to payment procedure as gave details of credit card to you, then to hotel with a 2x£50 assurance fee and whilst I appreciate this may all be resolved correctly, should I be from another country, I would find this even more confusing and worrying.

"I've been to the hotel before and the decision to return was deliberate. Overall, the decision was good and I wasn't disappointed."

The Georgetown restaurant - an interesting and tasty range of dishes available. Staff were very helpful and concerned that everything was as it should be.

Despite being spacious my room up in the roof was gloomy. The gloom was compounded by some very poor lighting.

"Very nice setting and parts of building are lovely. Small number of rooms means bar/restaurant can be very quiet at times. Room was beautiful - really nice old colonial style. Closed doors from reception to main hall and into restaurant gives a slightly odd feel. Presumably this is necessary for fire regulations but is a shame as it detracts from the ambience."

    Authentic old world style

Bathroom smelt bad on arrival. No info about hotel services in room.

"we had a wonderful experience at Colwick Hall Hotel, from the warm welcome, the facilities included in our weekend break and the informarive manner of the hotel staff to support our choices of activity. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, as we asked to change room for one with a better prospect initially the room which was just as beautiful internally overlooked kitchen areas with large unsightly binsWe were quickly accommodated in a room that overlooked lakes and a beauiful fountain. There was a wonderful restaurant that served delicious Malay Food, where again the staff were able to help us with our choices. Again, nothing was 'out of bounds' and we found the sevice to be excellent. the Hotel is situated near Nottingham Racecourse and Colwick Country Park, which was in close proximity for walks. The location of the Hotel is only a matter of 5 minutes by car into the centre of the city, but when at the hotel one could have been anywhere. It is a truly beautiful building, with good decorative order, keeping in sympathy with the age of the hall itself. Check out was simple and quick, with a welcome to make any future bookings. It is indeed a place to return to."

beautiful big rooms- both bath and bedrooms- comfort, cleanliness; plenty of hanging and drawer space for clothes; the added surprise of comfortable dressing gowns; excellent accommodation near country park; excellent location for town or country.

    "See above!!!"

The rooms were amazing! All full of history and charator, yet all finished differently! The bathrooms were huge and extremely luxurious. The staff were efficiant and very friendly and profesional. The lounge bar and restaurant were wonderful for food and drinks! Nothing was too much trouble you just had to ask and it was done! The grounds, the building and whole surroundings were beautiful. We can't wait for anther excuse to have to go back to Nottingham so we can stay there again and when we do we intend to stay for more than just one night!!

There was absolutely nothing to dislike about this hotel!!

"A nice frontage and rear garden Hotel tatty No other guests on the evening I styed. - Why? Restraunt empty but did get bar food in the end Bar staff go on walkabout and hard to get a drink Room lacks light and ventilation Staff manners? Not the best value for money but with a little more effort from staff and a few more guests to give it some atmosphere this could be a nice place to stay. I will give it one more try in a couple of months to see if things improve."

nice rear garden setting although within a town felt as if in the country

Very tiny window set within roof space, room very dark and uncomfortably hot and stuffy, no lift and many many steps up to the room, nobody else staying in the hotel no atmosphere, chamber maid had very poor manners failing to knock and just burst into the room, not one member of staff returned my good morning, Bar empty and after serving my drink the bar tender also dissapeared, no dvd player in room as per specification.

The hotel with its grand looks and backdrop over the river is a wonderful place to relax. Once inside the hotel is modern and fresh with warm freindly staff.

Unfortuatly i am a light sleeper and found the blind inadequate during the morning sunshine at 6 o clock in the morning.

"A pleasant hotel in which views from the rooms are good, whether at the back of the building overlooking the gardens or the front overlooking the racecourse. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise - with its Malaysian theme - the food was good and service attentive. Staff were unfailingly pleasant and ensured that what I requested was what I got. I would certainly go back."

The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was excellent with quality fittings throughout. There was no feeling that the hotel was trying to cut corners, by providing cheap options.

Not so much a dislike - but a disappointment that the hotel maintenance section had failed to complete a paint job in the bathroom. This seemed to be out of character with the hotel generally.

Door to the bathroom didn't close properly and gap under the main door meant we could hear people coming and going outside.

"Fantastic location for those who wish to be close to Nottingham centre but not in the centre. We chose hotel for its proximity to the National water sports centre. Racecourse on one side of hotel and river Trent also nearbye. Parking facilities were excellent, with a large free car park outside. Liked reception area and dining room was very good. Although there were only 3 waiters on the night we were there and the dining room was full, they worked incredibly hard to take the orders and serve the meals, and managed to be polite and helpful at the same time. Sunday evening also included a pianist who played continuously for almost 3 hours, providing a lovely background to the meal. Yes, we will return next time we are in Nottingham"

Location, ease of parking, very nice staff

Booked an executive room, a little more cramped than I expected.

"Not much to say, which is its own form of compliment. The accommodation was fine with minor caveats above. Nothing came as a surprise eg I think we knew there was no lift to the second floor [which in any case wasn't, for us, a big deal!]"

Quiet, relaxed atmosphere, appropriate to - and partly generated by - the building

Room was a bit stuffy in the warm weather, but droning air conditioning would have been worse! My wife not tall! found the height of the wash hand basin a bit of a struggle! The provision of cups and tea/coffee/hot chocolate/biscuits in the room was a tad niggardly eg only one hot chocolate sachet in a room for two, but this didn't spoil our overall enjoyment.

"Nice hotel if a little tired in places. Excellent staff. Very good restaurant. I was a little disapointed that there was no lift and I had been allocated a room at the top of the building despite the hotel being relatively empty of customers. Overall the hotel has excellent facilities, and a friendly and helpful staff. I would suggest that this hotel would be an ideal location for a weekend stay in Nottingham."

Well presented and tidy. Spacious bathroom.

Room was at the top of the building 3rd floor, no lift facility. I also found the room to be somewhat hot with no AC.

"Whilst having stayed in hotels across the world regularly on business, i can honestly say that Colwick Hall Hotel offers a great standard and value for money, in comparison. Although I found it particularly difficult to find travelling from the M1 and in hindsight i would suggest it would have been useful to have more detailed directions on the booking forms."

The superior rooms are just as described. Opulence at its best. Staff were courteous and helpful. The restaurant displayed a good selection and the service excellent.

    The rooms were quite hot.

"Excellent country house hotel. The food was absolutely first class. Was not too happy with the attic bedroom on the second floor and no lift. The grounds are beautiful. The fact that there is a security warden patrolling during the evening suggests that there are possible car park problems? Overall I would certainly stay there again without question and recommend it to friends and business associates."
