"Acceptable for the purpose of the visit."

Staff very helpful. Good room service. Comfortable bed. Good study area in room

No switch for extractor fan in en suite. Electric point not working for kettle. Not cleaned immeadiately around bed. Hairgrips from previous visitor found on floor. Shower height stuck! 30 ladybird beetles residing in room! 1 disturbed night from guests shouting, singing from 2.00 - 2.45am.

"Disappointing, tired hotel, offering poor quality food and generally unsustainable prices."

access, parking and happy staff who were nevertheless not particularly well trained.

Hotel was very tired in most aspects and in need of a major refit. Food was very poor, particularly the obviously pre- cooked breakfast which arrived a mere 3 minutes after being ordered and was therefore very dry and overcooked. In addition, the pots of jam etc on the table had already been opened by previous guests, which is very unhygienic! The staff were generally happy, but the restaurant personnel were not particularly well trained, rather naive and without good leadership. The hotel is flattering itself in trying to offer this standard of services at unrealistic prices to experienced well travelled guests.

    "Very good"

Lovely venue, well equipped with excellent staff

Personal preference, the draft beers are too cold and not matching the quality of the rest of the hotel. Extremely minor detail.

"From the outside, this is a lovely looking hotel but inside many areas are in need of renovation and the service in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast was simply awful "

    Nice location, lovely gardens

Restaurant service - totally disorganised, lacking any element of customer service or care. For example we had to wait to be served the wine we'd ordered with dinner because the duty manager had disappeared and had the only set of keys to the fridge! We chose not to eat in the restaurant on our second night because we were unimpressed on our fist evening. At breakfast the situation was even worse - another guest came across to me and said she'd had to clear her own table because she had waited so long and no-one came to seat her. We were eventually told to wait in the cocktail area and then when we finally did get breakfast many of the foods were missing/they had run out and we had to ask 3 times when our substitute breakfast would then arrive. This is very disappointing and makes for an unpleasant stay as we go to hotels to get great service and spend some enjoyable time as a family.

"Congratulated myself on the choice out of the internet, i.e. it was "just fine"."

Outstanding location in a unique natural surrounding, add on of modern Spa area to this "old" building defenitely was a smart idea, adds enormously to the value of the stay.

Check in receptionist was friendly, helpfull and efficient. She went out of her way to find directions for us on the internet.

Some of the decor in hotel a little tired.

"Nice hotel check out different dates as tariff varies considerably"

    Rooms good size and comfy

Breakfast!!!! No time between ordering cooked breakfast and it arriving. No time to eat cereal. Once cook breakfast arrives it is luke warm and not always what you order.

Disappointed that having booked a good looking Hotel for a romantic couple of days away that the resturant was closed due to lack of people staying. I should have been made aware of this before our stay as I would have booked elsewhere. Having said that the hotel itself was very good and the spa great.

I booked in early 3.00pmto do some work on my laptop. The room was that cold I could not continue. Heating only came on in the morning.

The garden was lovely although smaller than we'd anticipated from the web site, We thought dinner was excellent even though we were initially disappointed at dining in a function room as the main cocktail lounge and dining room were taken over by a large wedding.

The heating was on a timer so the room was freezing when we arrived. Given the rest of the hotel was taken over by a wedding this was irritating! The hot tap in the bath didn't work ruling out a relaxing soak and the traces of black mould on the tile grout and bottom of the shower screen were not what we expect from a hotel. Breakfast was a little amusing.Toast came but no hot drinks; the dirty coffee cups were changed for ones barely better; we had to request butter for the toast and then remind the waitress that we were still waiting for milkmilk;forgotton scrambled eggs eventually arrived some 25 minutes after we ordered them. All in all it felt as if there was no overall sense of order or how to deliver a customer service. Everone was perfectly affable and quite oblivious to how poor it actually was.

"Dreadful. Were glad to leave. After breakfast the reception was full of angry guests."

    Large room. Good leisure facilities.

Room shabby and unbearably hot. When we went for dinner, which we had pre-booked, the waitress said there were no tables for two. There was hardly anyone in there but all the empty tables were set for four and we sat at one of those, no problem. Dinner dish of Trio of vegetables was virtually raw and inedible. Restaurant staff totally inexperienced and need training in customer care. Breakfast was a shambles. We had to wait with ten other couples for half an hour to be seated, even though the restaurant was less than a quarter full. All tables were being set for four people even though we were all in couples. No milk was brought with coffee. No butter was brought with toast. Very poor selection on the buffet. Unbelievable.

"Hotel very nice and reception staff very welcoming.....Food and level of service in the restaurant turned me off from staying in the hotel again "

Room very nice and view spectacular

Food, a real disappointment, one of the things I enjoy about staying in hotels is a nice hot breakfast. We waited at least 40 minutes for our breakfast to arrive, when it did it was practically cold and not greatly appetising, this followed on from the cold toast....not a great experience

Not geared for business travellers... staff in restaurant struggled to split the bill correctly across a number of different rooms in which colleagues were staying, so that each of our organisations could be billed correctly. As well as spending time in the restaurant trying to sort it out, we ended up spending an extra 20 minutes during check out to finally resolve it. We were not told when we booked that there would be an event at the hotel, involving loud music until 11pm. When I called down to ask to change rooms due to the noise, I was told it would continue until midnight and to come to reception and I'd get a new room. I packed up and went down, only to be told it was finished at 11pm which was only 15 minutes away by that stage. A colleague who also called down to reception was told midnight, too. I ended up returning to my original room and upacking again. This hotel charges a totally unjustifiable

It would have been nice to have been warned of the Prom Night that took place. Sleeping became a chore.

"There were some nice friendly youg staff who were trying but they lacked good management. The breakfast service was very poor lots of staff with no direction a manager did waft in and out but was oblivious to the general disorganisation around her we had to either go and get the basic plates cups etc ourselves or ask at least 2 staff for the same thing in the hope of getting it, the food was good when you finaly got the right meal. The building is in need of a refurb ther was a man with a clip board walking around looking at walls furniture etc so this is possibly on the agenda."

friendly helpful young staff / Location to event / Parking / nice grounds/ Good food Bar snack & breakfast

Poorly trained and managed staff / Shower head broken had to tie up to get to work / Bed uncomfertable sunk in the middle / When checking out very cold approach was not asked if we enjoyed our stay!

"The hotel was very central for our plans and was in a lovely setting. However on one day we decided to leave the car in the car park and use public transport. This did not prove to be very easy. There was no information available and the bus stop was a long way away. The staff were extremely dillegent and friendly and made our stay a delight. The food was too good, so much so I ate too much. Lovely"

Very comfortable with ample room and cupboard space. Quite a home from home

"Generally the experience was good although I would have asked for a quiet room if I had known we would be placed above the function room. There were many guests in the hotel who were attending the functions who I'm sure would not have been affected by the noise. Also the receptionist was a bit dismisive when I requested another sachet of drinking chocolate. I was advised that they were all locked away in the housekeepers office so were unobtainable until the next day. Maybe a small supply at the reception desk would be in order. Not a major concern, just an observation."

Very clean, spacious and well laid out.

Our room was located above the function room which was very noisy.

"The rates have dropped in this hotel since my last visit however this did reflect in the standard of service and cleanliness both of which were exceedingly good value for money - this hotel although needing a little touch of TLC is extremley comfortable and the staff are very polite and helpful. The restaurant suprevisor James could not do enough to help and the food produced by the new chef was excellent and well presented"

large comfortable rooms with good facilities, swimming pool and spa facilities, new menu in the restaurant, excellent service in the restaurant, set in lovely grounds and handy for Southampton and surrounding areas

Good room with a nice outlook, nice and clean and everything working as expected. Central heating superb.

Sealing around bath needs re-doing, wood around bath needs a lick of paint, otherwise nothing to dislike.
