"Adequate accommodation but not outstanding. Book most of our hotel stays on-line but found that out of the last twenty hotels I have booked in the last two years this would be at the lower end. "

Good price and had off street parking

Condition of room was 'tired'. Hole in ceiling was blocked up with tissues. Net curtains had cigarette burns in!!

"If I were to stay again, I'd have to make sure I had a room that was isolated from the street and at the opposite end of the hotel, where the Wifi is strong if I was there for business. however, the people in the hotel were so nice to me about using their WiFi signal, that I feel I shoudl go there, which is a listed building and only £20 more/night for a much more upscale room but without breakfast. Were I to get a room that was quieter, this might change. So in the question below about whether I'd stay again I will say yes, hoping you'll see this qualification."

This is a very clean hotel with an upscale, professional appearance. While from the outside it might look like it's a little dodgy, it's definitely a nice place. They have well trained, good, friendly and helpful desk staff who tried to deal with my specific needs immediately. Their breakfast was good, with a cold buffet and hot served breakfast if you want to get stuffed you could do it. On Sunday it's all buffet, which is even better. Many of the issues I had with the place were more about what cannot be changed physical characteristics of the hotel and location than what can be changed; but they could deal with a few items. It's location across from the train station is convenient, since Derby is small you can reach the centre easily.

I have been in bad hotels, and this is not one of them. They do a good job trying to accommodate customers. But there are things that might drive you crazy. It's an old and noisy building, with bangs and thumps. I had a room connected by a door to another room, and those doors were thin so I could hear everyone. There was a loud radio playing BBC1 in the breakfast restaurant which was jarring, and contrasted significantly with the upscale look of the place. The room was hot in the evening and since it's right on a loud road, I couldn't sleep with the windows open noise or closed heat. Finally, and most significantly for me since I was there to work, the claim of WiFi access needs qualifications. It was very limited--I did not get it in my room, even after I changed rooms to where I was told you could "definitely" get the WiFi, and so I ended up purchasing from another service ironically, the hotel across the street, whose system was strong so I could get work done.

    "good."

As hotel is very near train station, very convenient to travel to other parts of Derbyshire. The hotel was clean, and offered a very well prepared breakfast.

Unfortunely the lift was out of order when we arrived, so had to carry luggage upstairs, without any help.

"I was travelling to attend a funeral and arrived before 2pm checkin time. After some prompting it was established that the room was ready, but I was initially told I could not check in early and was not offered anywhere to wait or advised I could order coffee or lunch. Staff seemed inexperienced and unconcerned. "

Booking good through AA web site. Room service breakfast on time.

At check in I was not advised restaurant was closed for dinner. The TV did not work properly and there was no remote control.

"Liked the hotel and am using it again next week."

Courteous and helpful staff. Clean, modern room with comfortable bed and nice ensuite. Good parking facilities. Well located hotel.

Shower head clip was loose and made showering difficult - did let hotel staff know via completed repair form.

    location, parking and restaurant

Our prior booking requests had not been complied with. 5 weeks prior we booked on-line requesting a gound floor twin room. On arrival we were given a room on the first floor. We said nothing until we realised the room was a double and not a twin. We requested we be moved to a downstairs twin as per our booking, but were told the only twin room that was vacant, was on the top floor. We accepted but complained that we had specifically asked for a ground floor room. Then we discovered the lift wasn't working and so had to lug all our luggage up 3 flights of stairs Then the towel rail in our bathroom was belting out heat - we couldn't turn it off and it made our room unbearably hot. Wetold the receptionist and asked for it to be loooked into whilst we went out to eat. She said it would be but nothing was done. When I asked her about this in the morning- she said that there was no repair person available. we were hardly able to sleep because the room was so hot. I wished I had stayed at home and driven to my meeting in the morning rather than waste

"Exactly what we wanted - a good hotel, right by the station, at a reasonable price."

staff were excellent. Shower was truly superb: like getting a massage!

confusing lighting master switch that wasn't mentioned by anyone, and wasn't obvious on arriving at the room. You must get a lot of puzzled callers.

the room was reasonable, but small. Decor could be improved

The room and sheets smelled of smoke. Annoyed to fing out someone else staying in a similar room on the same 2 nights had a vastly lower price tariff.

clean and tidy, warm and comfortable to stay in. not noisey recommended for over nights stays or weekend breaks. very near to the town center only about 5min walk

"I'll keep it short, I would come back again because there was nothing bad enough to put me off."

Very close to the train station as the hotel is just across the road and close to Westfield shopping centre which has basically all the shops you need. The room was clean and the TV was working properly. The staff are friendly.

The stairs inside the hotel are quite steep so it can be difficult carrying any luggage you may have.
