    "Very pleasant"

Receptionist failed to ring back "in a few minutes" when trying to make the booking by phone. Eventually the following day, the booking was made over the internet.

"We were making a regular visit to relatives in Barrow and this is by far the best hotel we've stayed in so far in the area."

The hotel is an impressive building within attractive grounds. Very efficient and friendly staff. Good cooked breakfast.

Bedroom and bathroom were clean but in need of some minor repairs to the decor and fittings.

"Stayed because of a wedding and reception. Everything went off as planned so no real complaints. Long wait for breakfast. "

    Impressive facade and gardens.Unobtrusive staff.

Interior slightly dark and drab, but probably in keeping with the age of the property

    "adequate for the occasion"

Room was in the new wing and out of keeping with the abbey building - could have been any room at any anonymous motorway motel. Apart from a gentleman behind the bar , I didn't see any member of staff smile all the time I was there.

"Good value for money and despite the heating issue, we would definately stay there again."

Staff were friendly and courteous throughout our stay, room was of a good size with adequate facilities.

Heating, on arrival, the room was cold and the heating is on a timing system so did not warm up until later in the evening

    "excellent "

excellent view from the suite very comfortable bed

The cards used to open guest rooms had to be tried several times before gaining entry and we witnessed other guests having the same problems. We had a meal in the restaurant on the first night of our stay and found some of the vegetables a little too crisp other than that the food was excellent, and the wine superb.

"overall i enjoyed the stay and would recommend to anyone else."

staff very friendly and the hotel is as you would expect from the pictures on the website.our room was very quiet which was great, probably due to thick walls and the fact that hallway doors had been fitted with a system to prevent them from slamming shut. its the little things that count!!!

hotel restaurant is quite expensive and badly laid out. didnt feel like the right sort of room for a dining room to us!!felt a bit awkward!food and service was good though.

the setting and style of the hotel

"All in all this is an excellent and very comfortable hotel with good services. We will certainly stay there again in the future. All the staff that we met were friendly and helpful. The quality of the food was very good. There is good car parking space available ."

Clean, modern well serviced hotel and there is good use of colour in the rooms with a large window give natural good light. The room furniture was very good see comment below. The hotel is in a good location with a good outlook in its own grounds

More drawer space to store clothes there was just a small wardrobe and two bedside cabinets. For a four night stay it is nice to unpack the case.

Very nice hotel but the room could of been lager for the price.

Size of room plus the menu was a little pricey.

"Will recommend this hotel. It is an ideal getaway, peaceful, elegant and scenic."

Everything, the settings were fantastic, the staff were friendly and the hotel was very looked after.

The breakfast was not very nice. Too much butter in the scrambled eggs, and the bacon had been left to dry up.

Nice place, dinner was a bit expensive but was nice.

Little choice of beers, more bottle beers of high quality would have been nice.

Hotel is in a beautiful setting and we were pleasantly surprised how lovely both the grounds and inside the hotel were. The breakfast menu included numerous items to choose from and the food was delicious.

    Restaurant prices were rather expensive!

"A really nice hotel, the staff are excellent, the food is very good and well presented. Rooms + bathroom are of a good size, 14 acres of grounds. The location is on the outskirts of Barrow in a quiet area close to the ruins of a Cistercian Abbey, Walney Island is a short drive through Barrow. Coniston Water + Lake Windermere are 40mins drive away. The Coast Road from Ulverston to Barrow is a lovely route with nice scenery."

The setting, staff, rooms, breakfast, dining

Could be better signposted, but this is a minor point
