"Pretty poor"
Car parking
Tiny bathroom, toilet difficult to flush, couldn't turn off hot tap properly, shower very difficult to turn on and sprayed everywhere except where needed, restaurant turned out to be Chinese not clear when booked and was important for a late arrival not wanting Chinese food, reception staff off hand. Decor generally very shabby, ironing board and cleaning materials left on stairs, small bed - thought I'd booked a queensize but got a triple room instead

"Value for money, but hotel decor was faded and and old. Would probably choose somewhere else next time"
Good parking, central location, breakfast was nice
1st room allocated smelled of smoke, and television had bad signal, crockery was missing, soap dispensers were empty

"Ok for £40 as we were originall booked for £240 up the road at the Alexander House Hotel."
For £40 for the room for the night was good value for a city centre Hotel - no breakfast included. The location is great right in the centre with many shops, pubs and restaurants.
The picture on the internet makes this look like a lovely hotel but you only get what you pay for. We stayed in an extension of the which looked like it was bullt on the 1970s not the 1600s as stated on the website. There was no onsite bar or restaurant these were next door and run by separate companies. There is no access to the front of the hotel via car so you need to go around the back but its not well sign posted if at all.

"Very disappointing.....I know its an old hotel but i stayed there when it was part of the Forte Group and the standards were much better then..It seems to me that it is in need of a massive refurbishment to bring up to MODERN day needs."
The gentleman on reception when we checked in could not have been more helpful....
Uncomfortable old bed....the bedding did not look clean AND had cigarette burn holes in the blankets....the toilet was loose....soap dispenser inoperative...the room was hot and when I opened the window I found pigeons roosting in the recess between rooms and pigeon feathers and droppings on the windowsill....the net curtain at the window was filthy and looked like it would fall apart if you touched it....so we slept with the window closed on top of the bedsheets ..

"Would rather have slept at the airport. It's cheaper and cleaner. "
Staff is nice and knowledgeable
Room was terrible. Window was stuck open all the way, room smelled of old smoke, had bottles of 'soap' attached to the wall like a public bathroom in a shopping mall that did not work properly, overall was grungy and has not been updated in many years. TV only got 3 channels and did not work too well. And to top it all off, the place is haunted.

"Stayed overnight after a friends party finished, were looking for somewhere nearby and nicely presented."

"Pleasantly surprised, the room was clean and tidy, good value for money."
Room in Sussex Wing was clean, although we did find a pair of shoes left by a previous guest under the bed. Bedding was clean. Choice of restaurants nearby. Free car parking.
Bathroom door did not shut properly due to top hinge of door coming away from doorframe, easily fixed with a screwdriver by ourselves, but we shouldn't have had to. Reception areas could due with a bit of sprucing up, first impressions when entering from the car park are poor.

"really enjoyed our stay, Hotel is central to the centre of town. Always wanted to stay at the George, I grew up in Crawley It did'nt let me down. "

on our 1st night a guest set off the fire alarm due to an argument with his other half. they caused a scence on the landing and promised the manager that they would stop. it continued throughout the night. they should have been removed from the hotel but they were left to annoy the other guests. so much for a nice quite weekend away.

generally clean and tidy. good town centre location. good breakfast
hotel bar too exclusive for working people.
stayed on February 10, 2009
Staff helpful, cost very reasonable.
The buildings Annexes and surrounding area car park look rather 'run down' and unkept. The drainage in the bathroom was very slow and the corridors smelt strongly of tobaco smoke.

"For the price and the close vicinity of Gatwick Airport, you really cannot do better than this place. Ideal for a stop-over/ transitory visit."
Staff were approachable, extremely accommodating and helpful. Room was clean and spacious with plenty of hot water and towels in the en-suite. Amazing value for money.
The breakfast buffet didn't look very appetising but they made me fresh fried eggs which were lovely.

Friendly & helpful staff, bith at the hotel & when changing reservation with call centre.

"I had a good time but spent very little time in the hotel. It was just a place to sleep."
Local to city centre and amenities plenty of pubs and places to eat right outside front door. Cheaper than anywhere else in the same area.
Bathroom was quite dirty and water had green flakes in as came out of taps. Was very expensive because of location - not value for money. No lifts, breakfast not included.

"ok - staff friendly - good location"
Room was quiet Hotel in a very convenient place Bathroom was clean and presentable staff relatively helpful and service was ok
The 'lobby area' whilst tidy it is a bit shabby. I am sure bed linens get laundered and whilst the sheets seemed clean - the covering for the bed was stained and looked dirty. The throw cusions on the chair and bed smelt absolutely awful - so much so that I closed them into a drawer for the duration of the stay! These should be dry cleaned surely or at least have removable cusions that can be washed.

"we enjoyed our stay the Hotel was well placed superb Indian Resturant opposite. The male receptionist was neither friendly or unfriendly just doing his job, howver staff at breakfast were excellent."
our room was fine we requested non smoking but were allocated smoking, this was immediately changed without fuss or apology but the room still smelt of smoke.

"Quite good, especially the hotel's location"
Large room
Very surprised to be asked to pay for the room on arrival. This is not my usual experience. We were told that we had booked "room only" without any breakfast. My response was we would decide at breakfast what type of breakfast was required and appreciated that it would be an extra charge.
