"Very good, clean and respectable. The breakfast was very well prepared and the staff always friendly. Would recommend and will probaly go back next year. "
Within easy walking distance of the city centre and main attractions.
No bad points although the shower wasn't the best however, this is hardly a major.

"We would definately stay at The Dairy Guest House when visiting York again and we will be recommending it to others who might be visiting York. The Dairy Guest House has remained in keeping of York's historical past and has its own character with it's many decorative Victorian features.Well recommended."
The Dairy Guest House was within easy reach of York City centre and all of the tourist attractions. The rooms in the guest house were kept in a clean and tidy condition and the owners we found friendly and very helpful.A good choice of breakfast offered each morning, catering also for vegeterians and vegans. We could not fault our room which was tidied by staff each day we were there.

"excellent stay, would recommend it to anyone and will definatly be booking again."
excellent hotel with excellent staff and facilities
our orginal choice of room was cancelled due to a double booking situation. The hotel however delt with the situation very well and we were very satisfied with the room we were offered.

"A very pleasant stay. Would be willing to pay an extra pound a day for ground coffee rather than instant. It raises the experience many fold."

"The room was a lovely size with easy access. It was a little cold at times but that is partly because we had to return in the afternoon in order for my mum to rest and I suppose the heating would be set for evenings ect. The breakfast was nice and the surroundings lovely."
very clean and comfortable lovely old building.

"Checking into the hotel was only possible before 1200 and after 1600. Guests had to choose breakfast before 2000 the night before, apparently because it requires up to an hour to cook the food. Visitor than that the staff were friendly and keen to help."
The room was cosy.
Appears to be run for the convenience of the staff.

"A very nice friendly Hotel, everthing we asked for, and about, was dealt with professionally and politely."
The breakast must be the best in York, if not in the County
Only a shower in the room, although we did know there was a bathroom across the landing, my wife would have preferred to use a bath in our own room, but we do realise space in the room was the main factor

Very Basic Clean Accommodation
Room was cramped and in need of refurbishment electrical cables were strewn across the fireplace and tacked across the ceiling. Also we were not made aware that it fronts onto a very busy road junction and is located next door to a supermarket loading bay which appears to have been very busy throughout the day

"No privacy"
Location was handy for walking to York
Extremely noisy, hearing people in their rooms, people on the landing, entering the guest house, leaving the guest house, entering the bathroom, executing duties in the bathroom etc etc

"The accomodation was made for comfort and not over fussy or sterile. Their was a very nice family feeling to the place and was very quiet which made a perfect weekend for myself and my wife. Their was a good breakfst menu with a menu for children if required. The parking was on the road was ok but make sure that you arrange for a parking permit prior to your visit. The parking spaces were on the main street a couple of hundred yards down the road so dont leave any valubles in and make sure that you disply your permit. The manager was very helpful in advising us of things to do and places to eat which proved to be good. The 4-poster bed was comfy in room 2 that we occupied for the weekend. The weather was good so we'd score the visit to the Dairy Guest House a big 10/10. Superb."
It felt very homely and very private as the owners living accomodation was separate from the guest building. The breakfast was healthy and well prepared and the room was lovely and cosy. The location was superb witha 15 minute walk to the main attractions within york centre. There are two very good Indian restraunts within a 2 minute walk from the Guest house and a posh place next door Meltons...perhaps not too our personal taste and expensive but it looked nice!. The staff were lovely and we felt very comfortable and truly enjoyed our mini-honeymoon. We will be returning with the kids next year for sure!
Road was a bit noisey at the front but we live on a busy road ourselves so it did not affect us. If you are used to silent nights, the traffic may bother you a bit with a room at the front.

"Accomodation was clean and comfortable within good walking distance of the city centre. Owners were helpful and hospitable, and breakfasts were excellent: fresh local produce cooked to perfection not fried."
Everything.
No complaints!

"I enjoyed this b&b very much. There was attentiveness to details: flowers, healthy food, chocolates in the room, tea making facility in the room, a good sized bed and nice bedding, a good sized bathroom, and a good wardrobe. The staff was friendly and the food was very good."
I liked the pillows, the tea in the room, the breakfast, the attentiveness of the staff, the size of the bathroom, the television, the breakfast room, and the attention to healthy food.

"Before we booked for the Dairy Guest house we had certain preconceptions as everyone does have, there seemed to be a bit of mis-communication on my part about the self service check in, as we were'nt able to check in until after supervised check ins are made, this didn't seem to be a problem at all for the proprietors, especially as they had tried to contact me several times for confirmation with details. They made us feel completely at ease with my oversight, therefore we knew we were going to be accomodated with the best professionalism. When we arrived we saw a very clean and very well serviced accomodation with a lot to offer its guests. Information, ambience, warmth and safety. There was incredible customer satisfaction from my partner and myself and if we ever get the chance to go back to York we will book online again to stay at the Dairy Guest House."
For value for money the rates were extreemly fair but the presentation didn't reflect exactly how fair, the presentation and service far exceeded the very low cost we had to pay for such a settled, warm, freindly and very clean guest house. The wide choice with the breakfast menu and substancial meals were just what we needed to start the day, a big thanks to the proprietors.
Nothing.

"I would have liked to have known directions to the hotel from the city centre not just the train station, it would have saved me walking out of my way! The hoteliers were very freindly and made me feel very welcome, the food was excellent!"
Very cosy and secure for a single female traveller
The bathroom needs some attention, tiny things could improve the overall effect, like a new shower curtain and attention to detail when cleaning the sink and bathroom taps!

"In general we had a wonderful stay at the Dairy and would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in York. It was clean, charming, in particular we loved the fact that our room looked out on a pretty courtyard. It had a lovely atmosphere, and was conveniently in walking distance of the centre of the city and all of the attractions and places of interest plus for travelling, lots of bus routes and the of course York mainline railway station. The owners were friendly, approachable and couldn't have been more helpful, we particularly liked the fact that we were informed about the local attractions/eateries etc, and given a map. This prevented us from making some very expensive mistakes. The other staff at the Dairy were really nice. There was a good selection of breakfast items and the cooked meal was well presented and tasty and something we found really good was the fact that everything down to the place mats was immaculate."
The accomodation was excellent, clean with all the amenities that you would require. The bathroom was very spacious and clean.
Nothing to dislike. The only thing we would comment on is the lack of natural light in that particular room but this was compensated by the fact that it overlooked a pretty courtyard.

"Directions to Scarcroft Rd were adequate, but info regarding exact location of guesthouse on road would be handy - we missed it several times! Ability to come & go at our leisure was good. Staff very friendly. Guests must heed the parking bays allocated to the Guesthouse - a couple got 2 parking tickets during our stay there! We always take earplugs with us when staying at hotels & they were needed during our stay, as the road gets quite busy and delivery lorries park right outside the hotel!"
Good breakfast with a good choice for vegetarians, even vegans. Most major attractions within a 30 minute walk. Small local shopping precinct very nearby - handy in case you forget something. Staff very friendly. Directions & a map to good restaurants/attractions were provided.
A more prominent sign to assist first location would be handy. 4-poster bedroom a bit small & disappointing. Ensuite rather cramped & NOT heated. A duvet rather than blankets would have been preferable. The room heating goes off during the night & it gets rather cold in the winter.

"The Guest house location took a little finding on our first attempt as a delivery truck was parked in front of the building obscurring the signage. As you turn left into the road past JACKSONS store it is immediately on the left. Parking for the guest house is along the road next to the church on the right, if you park anywhere else you risk a ticket as the area is controlled by parking permits. When booking it allowed me to make requests of the Guest house staff, this really works. I took my wife away for some quality time and requested a bottle of champagne to be placed in the room. Staff were more than happy to arrange this for me and while we were collecting our baggage from our car, post book in, a bottle of champagne magically appeared in our room. The wife was very impressed and I was very thankful of the staff for helping me achieve this. It was a nice start to our stay. Overall I liked the hospitality extended to us. A good service that I will nodoubt use again."
Staff were very helpful and looked out for us. Very polite and approachable. The room was clean, comfortable and well presented.
The bed was a touch hard but survivable.

"Very well organised Guest House, nice friendly and helpful. Decor just needed to be updated as even though clean it was starting to look a little bit tired."
Lovely and friendly, cleanliness was good and a nice breakfast provided in the morning.
There needed to be a towel rail in the bathroom as towels did not dry properly.
