"Best part of the hotel is the location therefore I do recommend this hotel. The things that were bad don't matter unless you plan to actually spend time in the hotel rather than just sleeping there."

Our room wasn't available when we first arrived but a friendy staff member switched our room and we were able to check in at 10am. Additionally, the breakfast and restaurant are quite nice. Nice quality food and atmosphere.

At first appearance the modern decor looks lovely but once you get in your room you realize that it is quite worn as is the entire hotel. bathrooms tiles rusty, white closet door scratched up with black marks, all wooden trim and desk was scratched up The most disappointing part was that the TV channels all come in broken up - something was wrong with the satellite the entire time we were there.

"unfortunately we had a very poorly appointed room and a very poor nights sleep the first night it was on the street side and there was a communal area/ meeting point directly outside the room. However, we asked to move rooms and we were very satisfied with the second room. The staff were apologetic and pleasant and that was all fine."

very comfortable bed and nice size rooms.

Communal area/meeting points directly outside room, incredibly noisy. We were told that this was a superior room presumably because of the view, however, due to the noise levels associated with its location, i don't think you should charge people more to stay in it. I also thought the shower was in a really weird position as it just sprayed all over the rest of the bathroom. I thought the standard room which we were moved to was far nicer.

    "Excellent"

Location, parking, smart and clean, friendly helpful staff

Check out was a little slow, but not that bad

"Very good. We loved the location on Grassmarket right below the castle. "

Receptionists were very helpful with wi-fi support and transportation suggestions.

Shower handles in room 4128 were hard to turn and difficult to figure out. Shower did not drain quickly enough to prevent overflow onto bathroom floor, possibly because I couldn't regulate the flow with soap on my hands!

"Really good especially as we were upgraded to a suite room"

Excellent facilities and handy for Grassmarket, Castle and Royal Mile

Bath was rather small but at least we also had a large walk in shower Check in seems to take a little longer than at other hotels

"Good location and good facilities with lots of restaurants and bars close by. Reception staff were also friendly and polite."

Hotel generously equiped for the cost of staying. Free use of pool and gym facilities. There was also a dvd player in the room and free wireless internet which was a nice freebie as most hotels will charge more for this.

While the hotel was excellent and very clean, the only minor complaint I have is with the booking policy. We made our booking 2 months before staying and were charged the full amount upfront. Most hotels take a smaller deposit first and charge the remaining amount on day of departure.

    Good location

Terrible situation with car parking. Hotel parking is full all the time as it is sheared and open to public.

"I stayed here in late September for a weekend break after finding a cheap flight ex-Dublin with Ryanair. The hotel was one of the best I have stayed in this year. It is in a very central location, just five mins walk from Waverly Station, be warned though if you have bags the walk is all up hill The staff at the check in desk were incredibly friendly, even though I arrived at 11:30 my room was ready to move in and the room service lady even came to ask would I like some more tea or coffee. I was on the upper floor with a stunning view of the castle. There were two internet terminals at the end of the corridor which was a nice touch. The breakfast was fine and although I ate out every night the guests I spoke to said the dinner in the hotel was excellent. When I was checking out my baggage was stored until I was ready to collect it for the airport. Over all I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh"

"Decent tourist hotel, but not the best for travelling business people unless they are getting around without a car. "

Tidy hotel.Staff good but room not the best. Clean though.

car parking additional £8 in private hotel car park ! cheap, but why pay at all then staying there. Area not particularly car friendly either.

"I upgraded to a superior double room for the castle view but there was not much more value for the extra money and the castle view was not great. As it was the weekend the street was noisy till about 3a.m with stag and hen parties, this would have been helpful to know before booking this location. Parts of the room were dusty and over the 3 night stay the same parts were not dusted by housekeeping. Room was comfortable and a decent size but breakfast should be included in the price as it was "

Good Location, very easy to get to all attractions Good sized room

No air con, room was very hot at night. Room was dusty and not cleaned thoroughly. Very noisy outside throughout the night and early morning

The view of the castle was incredible, and the location was ideal for exploring the city.

There seemed to be a lot of hen/stag parties in this area - it's just as well we'd had a long day or we wouldn't have had any sleep!

The hotel location was superb. The hotel had an excellent and modern decoration. The room was large, clean and quiet.

There was no mini-bar in the room.

modern and stylish. Liked the luxurious touches - chocolate, bath products etc.

The lift in the hotel was too small!

"The rating of this hotel was high and the price was very good. I checked many other places on line in this rating and price range but there was always a location issue. When we were in Edinburgh we wanted to be within walking distance of the Royal Mile and the Old Town district."

The close proximity of the hotel to the Royal Mile is great. The hotel and staff were great.

"The hotel was in an excellant position for the town, we could come and go easily. The room was expensive and only had a tiny view of the castle. We had to pay extra for our breakfast which was very poor value as my daughter and I did not want to eat a great deal at that time of day. The staff were helpful and friendly On the whole the hotel felt very boring. It felt like a business hotel rather than one to stay in to celebrate hogmany"

Location is great. We have stayed there before and enjoy our stay very much.

I do think that breakfast should be included with the room price

"We had a very pleasant time. The meals available in the evening were very good and very good value for money if eating from the set menu. Throughout our stay the service was brilliant from all staff."

Good location, extremely helpful staff. Comfortable room.

The hairdryer provided was difficult to use due to its distance from the mirror and the strong pull of the curly flex. This was a bit annoying.
