"Lovely hotel in lovely setting. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definately stay here again."
knowledge and helpfulness of staff. Lovely location.
taste of onion in melon starter-- but made up by offers of free drinks and replacements starters as compensation-- and professionalism of young waiter. Disorganised breakfast in room-- waitress had to make 3 trips to eventually bring all cutlery, toast and cups to complete the breakfast. Made up by not charging for the breakfast.

"We had a much needed break and the hotel contributed to our well-being."
The staff were really helpful and the food was superb.
The bed was uncomfortably hard but staff provided a duvet to soften it which was a great help.

"Enjoyable, excellent breakfast."
No bar meals, wedding party in progress so access to bar restricted and dj giving rather loud announcement so hotel moved us to quieter room.

"overall an excellent experience, with friendly and helpful staff, good food and warm atmosphere."
Excellent, welcoming staff and a lovely atmosphere throughout the hotel.
the decor was a little tattered around the edges, with an attempt to hide peeling wallpaper in my room with the wardrobe.

Value for money was excellent Food we had an evening meal and breakfast both were very good

"Beautiful building, great food at reasonable prices, but very tedious drinks at bar. Room very noisy from 6am to midnight as above kitchens and adjoining another room with thin door."
Great location, good restaurant, good value
Poor drink selection, some rooms very noisy

Breakfast staff not very professional.

"This is a unique building offering good facilities, and is good value compared to the 'standard' hotel room. Rooms vary in size. In room kettle with drinks. Enthusiastic staff. Extensive grounds. A good photo opportunity!"
A historic listed buiding seeped in history - it was a hunting lodge for royalty since the 1600's. Art work, oak pannelling, chandaliers, a fireplace the size of a room... A rural retreat on the city fringe. A true British experience with two surprises - a decent shower, and reasonable food.
Difficult to find - get a good detailled map! But worth it! Bed was below standard for comfort - but that is just 1 room experience. It is a very popular wedding and conference venue and parking can become difficult at times - and you have to have a car to stay here!

Very poor TV reception.

original room offered was so hot we had to change. Next room offered had broken toilet seat and then staff realised that repairs they thought had been done were not completed. Final room was fine

"We enjoyed the atmosphere of this hotel. the general ambience. The meal was also good - though the lamb shank was a bit tough!"
Atmosphere, lovely walk in park. 'Quirkiness' of building
The television in the room is too low to be able to watch comfortably in bed.

Good, clean and well presented. Good breakfast, staff polite and helpfull. Plenty of car parking.
Ages to get any hot water, I mean between 5 and 10 minutes. You have water saving flushes on the toilet but waste far more water by having to run tap for hot water. A replacement stair carpet to the second floor would make an even better impression.

"Type of room and its situation relative to floor levels. Lack of lifts"
Good standard
Counterpanes too heavy. Toilet fans too noisy. No hand rail alongside bath.
from Carlisle UK, stayed on June 19, 2007
"Hotel in nice setting in a country park so very quiet. Alot of stairs to get to my room but this is as its an old building. Rooms good, breakfast good and bar food good although limited choice I didn't eat in the restaurant. Some background music in the breakfast room / bar would have helped the atmosphere. Overall a nice place to stay."
Room was very well equiped, clean and modern.

"Lovely Hotel with friendly proffesional staff. The room was a long way away from the restaurant/bar/reception, but this was the only minor discomfort of my stay"
The hotel is amazing. Felt like I was staying in a castle. Would be a lovely place to take the other half.
from Offham UK, stayed on May 5, 2007
Beautiful grounds and historic building was definitely a major plus, to be able to go for a walk whenever you feel like it was amazing.
Not always hot water out of the showersporadic at best. Food was ok but ingredients/produce could've been better.

"Would like to have known that there was no lift as I carry quite a number of heavish items e.g laptop."
Room spacious Poition of hotel in grounds and potential to be a very good hotel.
Bath dirty on 2nd day even though I had not used this, so was not able to use it.Although I requestes a non-smoking room it was evident that this room is normally used for smoking so that the blankets retain a smell of stale smoke Access to room up a very narrow flight of stairs to 2nd floor-rather dangerous for me TV did not have remote control and when I asked about this was told they would get me onebut nothing done or no message to say what was happening.

Everything was absolutely amazing, friendly staff, lovely hotel room with a fabulous view no. 6, tranquility, the gardens around the hotel absolutely stunning. And I have to admit that I am a very fussy person. Thank you very much for our unforgettable weekend away. We loved every minute of it. Basically 10 out of 10. We will be coming back.

Hotel in Park Outdoor area Friendly staff
Kettle difficult to use, socket behind TV and plug in cable. Could make more of outdoor area and include sun shade/umbrellas, improve terrace.

"We had to be upgraded due to the bad mould on the wall of our initial room - there was a whole wall which had obvious mould and what appeared to be lime deposits along it. This was very disappointing and not overly encouraging! However, staff were helpful in this respect and we did not encounter any problems."
The building is a lovely building with a real feeling of history but I felt more should have been done to maximise this.
I didn't find it overly clean and the communal areas were very smokey.

"I was surprised that our room did not have central heating but there was an electric heater in the room which we preferred to switch off during the night for safety reasons. More importantly, there was no heating at all in the bathroom. I would expect automatic heating for a 3 star establishment."
Quiet
No central heating in the room; no heating in bathroom
