Room very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful. Pleasant staff, fun night as it was in the Christmas period, many people there for parties. Good atmosphere

"This is a foodie's heaven. The restaurant is exceptional and the breakfast is lovely well presented with helpful staff. The bedrooms were nicely furnished but a bit small but then it is an old building with en suite facilities which is a bonus. Parking is in a small car park with an exceptionally narrow entrance between two buildings, not for the feint hearted!"

Comfortable and the staff were absolutely delightful. We were attending a family celebration held at Berties and the staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The breakfast was lovely and well presented.

Bedroom was above kitchens and facilities and was marred by a continuous humming of extractors or refridgerators all night long: the shower was erratic. So if going again would ask for a bedroom over the front or restaurant part.

"A clean and peaceful countryside restaurant with hotel rooms upstairs. Nonluxury, though appealing in some sense."

Clean and fairly quiet place - just what you need for an overnight stay

"Greeted by a very pleasant young man who was extremely helpful and polite; food was excellent, room adequate, en-suite slightly small, and television would have been better in an elevated position; lack of seating in the room;and biscuits would have been nice to compliment the tea/coffee facilities. A clothes iron would have been advantageous, but these are only petty issues, and the lack of facilities did not detract whatsoever from the overall stay."

Friendly and courteous staff, cleanliness, excellent food.

"I would love to have a room where one feel male and female needs are both considered. Toilet need to be clean and spotless."

The staffs are friendly and respond to your request very quickly.

There are not even a glass nor tissue papers in the room. The room is totally basic and needs grate improvement on cleanliness.

It was a lovely intimate place. They made us really welcome

More like a restaurant with rooms than a hotel but not an issue

"The hotel was in an old building formerly a public house converted into a small hotel which caused limitations. Nevertheless we found the staff were excellent, very helpful and efficient. Also the hotel was very clean."

Quite adequate for an overnight stay. Not really suitable for a long stay.

We had a small room with little storage space which just about qualified as en suite.

"Overall the we enjoyed the stay and breakfast time was very easy with good quality food. I do not think that I would stay in this accomodation for more than a couple of nights as there were no facilities to sit and relax outside of your room. For a short stay with a good restaurant with good wines at hand I can throughly recoment Berties."

The staff were friendly and attentive. There was agood selection of food on the menu although only one main dish of note for vegitarians. The room was well presented and clean and the bed very comfortable.

Would have prefered a bath as well as a shower but the overall size of the rooms did not permit this. The vegitarian main course mushroom Lasagne was not very good.

Comfortable bed, clean room and good bathroom

Room Small and noisey, being over the kitchen

"We shall go back for the food and the charm of the staff"

The place was charming and the food superb - we wished we could have had dinner there on Saturday night rather than the formal dinner we had to attend at another hotel in the town. The room was spotless

The en suite facilities were very cramped - fine for 1 night but difficult for longer.

"I'll keep revisiting this hotel until it changes drastically, the evening menu is varied, interesting & importantly delicious, is good value for money, good wines at affordable prices plus a great breakfast too. Additionally, you get the bonus of some of the most pleasant staff you could wish to meet."

The staff are great & the food is really excellent, I stay here whenever I come to Romsey and would recommend others to do likewise

You have to accept certain limitations with this type of accommodation. We weren't staying in a Sheraton or InterCon. The bedroom doors open directly onto a narrow corridor, they could do with quieter Fire door automatic closers, and a better selection of en suite soaps/shampoos

from St georges United Kingdom;UK, stayed on August 19, 2006

"Whilst there were some things about the room which could be improved, the overall stay was lovely as Romsey is interesting, the staff were very charming and welcoming and we had a lovely meal. This restaurant with rooms is very individual and different and would not suit the average business traveller who is used to the larger chain hotels. They rooms and restaurant were fully booked and clearly many people return again and again. I do feel they should buy some new towels though!"

The room was pleasant and I loved the hand painted touches to the walls. The staff were charming and the food in the restaurant excellent.

The towels were really threadbare, the hot tap to the washbasin didn't work and the tv reception was dreadful.

Small, cosy, intimate atmosphere, with good location. extremely close to the event we were attending

Room was compact and needed a coat of paint, it was also at the front of the hotel and subject to road noise. Parking could have been, but fortunately wasn't, a problem.

"The restaurant is excellent. The room was lovely, and decorated nicely. The bathroom could have done with a bit of decorating. And we had to chase the chef up at breakfast to get our food. Good location though, and reasonable value for money."

    Lovely breakfast. Good food.

Bathroom was a bit disappointing - tired decor. Expected it to be a bit nicer given how good the restaurant is.

    from Sunbury-on-thames United Kingdom;UK, stayed on March 8, 2006

"The proprietor described the business to me as a restaurant with accommodation, and on the night that my party of 8 stayed there, he calculated that there were some 100 diners in the restaurant. The service was extremely good and friendly - but I suspect that there could be frustration if a diner was in a hurry. This would be a pity given the high standard of the cooking."

The atmosphere - this due to the busy restaurant and the zany but very efficient approach of the French staff

If check-in is to be no earlier than 2pm, it would be helpful if food/snacks could be obtained after that time. The bedrooms are adequate - very clean but show the age of the building squeaky floorboards etc.

  • 70% Older Couple

from Hertford United Kingdom;UK, stayed on January 18, 2006

"It was a good stay as long as you accept that this was an excellent restaurant that has overnight accomodation, it was not a hotel in the conventional sense. The price of £75 per night for the room incl breakfast is therefore expensive for the standard of room that we had. We were told that the others were all better. Very good staff and attitude and we were allowed access to our room at 1000 hrs which is exceptional."

The restaurant was excellent with just the one exception, we were asked to vacate our table after 2 hours and move into a lounge area as they wanted to serve another couple. This detracted from our overall enjoyment very much and I told them this the next morning. We would still try to stay there again, but trying to avoid room 2 and to get an assurance that we need not hurry the meal and then vacate the table.

Room 2 was small, had a poor shower with a broken head fixing, and a light over the basin that did not work. There were no hotel type communal areas outside the opening times of the restaurant ie one entered through the side door and could only go straight to the room.
