"Will never stay again nor recommend to anyone. "

Definitely not 5 star!!! Checkin process very bad @ a pathetic hostel. No lift available and stairs very dangerous. Staff not trained in customer service standards although they try very hard. Wireless did not work. Apartments not thoroughly cleaned.

The decor and location

It was not accessible for someone in a wheelchair. The stone steps were uninviting especially in the dark

the location is fantastic, and the kitchen is fully equiped which is great. Also the washing machin is a HUGE +. Bed v confortable.

CENTRAL LOCATION ON ROYAL MILE

"I had a wonderful stay. Everything I required was provided for in the way of facilities, toiletries and information. The proprietor was very accomodating with regards to a Left Luggage facility & my request for an earlier check-in. Very much appreciated that this request was met."

"The apartment was in a fantastic area, right on the Royal Mile, near to restaurants, bars, shops and sight-seeing. Edinburgh Castle was a stones throw away. The apartment was definately 5 star. Spacious, comfortable and clean, with all the amenities you would need....dishwasher, washing machine, cooker and hob in the kitchen. Large dining table, comfy sofa, satellite tv, dvd player. The bed was king size albeit two mattresses together, but couln't really tell, there was central heating, there was sash windows. The overall experience was fantastic with considerate, unpretentious staff. I would highly recommend staying here. Amazing time."

Hotel staff were friendly and unpretentious, apartment was well decorated, comfortable and clean. In a great venue, right on the Royal Mile. Would definately stay here again.

Would have liked a later check-out, 11am was a little early even an hour to 12 noon would have been better.

check in @ the back packers hostel, no lifts to accomadation so if you are elderly or not of good health could cause a problem as steps are uneven and spiral in places.

"Felt really pleased to have found RMR on the internet by chance. Didn't need to know anything extra, everything was as described. Very convenient location with lots of eating places etc. within easy reach. Staff friendly and helpful. Very happy stay and will return if possible."

Excellent location, beautiful rooms - clean and well thought-out. Good facilities.

The hot water boiler acted up on our last day which was a bit inconvenient but up till then had been perfect. The stairs were quite challenging - especially with heavy luggage, but we were warned about this in advance so it was our choice.

"The Royal Mile Residence is in an excellent location for the leisure visitor. There are lots of attractions within a short distance and plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby. It's very near, by the way, to Ian Rankin's Fleshmarket Close. My accommodation was excellent, with the slight exception of the rather gloomy bedroom. I didn't use the TV, but it was fairly huge. There was everything you could want in the kitchen except for food and a coffee machine."

Good Location. Well-appointed, spacious kitchen. Nice bathroom.

The bedroom was a bit gloomy. Visitorwise no complaints.

"We were not warned about the roadworks immediately outside the flat before booking. As work started at 7.00 a.m. and did not finish until after 6.00 p.m. It meant that the flat was not pleasant to be in during the day. It was also very difficult and expensive to park in Cockburn Street in order to pick up the keys to the flat. This was not made clear at the time of booking. However once in the flat it was very central and remarkably quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful."

It was extremely convenient for the centre of Edinburgh. The cleanliness was good and all of the appliances were in good working order.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would use the apartments again, with the proviso that I would try to have an apartment on the first floor since I have mobility problems. The weather was cold when we were in Edinburgh but once we were inside we were very warm and comfortable. Plenty of good eating places within easy walking distance and many of the major sight seeing venues close to hand as well."

Excellent location. Well equipped. Warm and comfortable. Well serviced.

The stairs even although we knew about them. Could have used an additional handrail on the other wall. Sky system did not appear to work. Would have welcomed the tea and coffee bags being replenished but that is a minor quibble.

"Everything was fine except hot water did not work the night before we left. The lady came to fix it in 20 minutes but it seemm that it occured before."

"The booking in at Cockburn Street being at the Back-packers reception was an initial concern and initially led to a negative thought process as to what to expect from the accommodation when attending for the first time. This needs to be improved as it could put visitors in a negative mind-set and lead to unnecessary and unfounded criticsm."

In the heart of Tourist Edinburgh, good local external facilities, created a haven of peace and tranquility after the noise of the City

There appeared to be a slight smell from external sources which permeated into the residence albeit not at a level to cause concern and discomfort. It could however increase if not attended to.

"the online info didnt quiet match what we found. it was nicer. i think you do yourself a diservice in the write up. we had been on the road for a short while and appreciated the space and comfort that was afforded us. had wine and crackers while sitting on the window boxes, very relaxing. thanks so much gwen fontenot"

after traveling abroad and staying in rooms it was nice to spread out and have a place of privacy to relax. accomodations current and more than expected.

Central location.

Irritant of someone pushing the door buzzer early in the morning and the ability to hear the down stairs doors slam.

"The flat was ideal for our purposes although we did expect more of a hotel with the leisure facilities on another floor rather than a little way away. We were surprised when we were first taken to the apartment and anyone with a disability or pushchairs would have struggled with the steps. However, for us it was a superb location and thoroughly enjoyable. We would cetainly use if again if we visited Edinburgh."

Location and comfort

Excellent apart from the heating system had air pockets that made loud noises all night and a tap top was missing.

"The location of the appartment is brilliant in it's accessiblity to the train station and checking in at the nearby youth hostel, although unconventional, was none the less perfectly adequate. Regards the setting and the view of Edinburgh, especially in view of the superbly executed Christmas lightling of the city, were of film set standard. The appartment itslef was 'designed', though totally in keeping whith the environment and the character of the building and it was spotless and fully functioning. We would highly recommend it."

"This was a very nice accommodation with great attention to details of comfort, soaps, supplies, towels, made beds and so on. We were overcharged for breakfast one morning without noticing--the staff noticed later when completing the days bookkeeping and corrected it by the next morning with a letter attached to our door. I deeply appreciated the honest, hard working staff that attended to this accommodation. We were made to feel very welcome. This place is expensive by North America standards and that is somewhat related to the strength of the US dollar against the pound at present."

Luxury home from home with complete independence

The check in was surprising but sweet

"I was a little shocked on arrival to find I was checking into a youth hostal! however, the lady that greated us was both friendly and reassuring. Having then to carry all our luggage up a slight hill in the dark and pouring with rain to then be greated with a steep high staircase with no lift facility, was not what we were expecting. Once inside the appartment our dissappointment then turned to relief, as we entered a beautiful appartment, decorated to a very high standard and exceptionally clean. It was a great place and we enjoyed our stay very much making use of the health spa on offer to royal mile residence. This was just what we needed to relax after our long day shopping in beautiful edinburgh. I will definately be visiting you again soon, this time bringing my family. Thank you. p.s I am still waiting for my towel to be sent back to me, as this was taken from the bedroom by mistake by your staff."

"This accommodation is brilliantly situated for visiting the main sites in Edinburgh. The amazing bus routes mean you can visit most places without the need for the car. You are very close to the main shopping links and need good walking shoes!"

Very well presented and equipped

The kitchen floor was dangerously slippy. No info about Escape children times.

"Much better than expected, washing machine didn't work, but reception staff took our washing and brought it back clean, which was even better than me having to do it! Teenage children would have liked a TV in their room, we would have liked to stay longer. An older person, or people with young children may have found the stairs difficult. We thought RMR a hidden gem, and we hope not too many people find out a bout it!"
