Excellent staff, lovely room

I booked this room for my parents as a gift and then upgraded their room total cost £94 for one night, however they reported building works going on on their floor and that they had to walk through the builders area to get to their room. This was not indicated at time of booking or when I upgraded a week before the visit. A Warning should have been minimum if not discount!!!

* TV didn't work, had to be fixed by member of staff only for it to not work again the following morning * Water in shower would not disperse * Repection staff was disinterested about complaints and attempted to charge a higher rate for the room than had been quoted

Reception area and bar etc good, indeed impressive. Breakfast area excellent

Reception staff slow to appear when I arrived -Sunday Night - but were then quietly efficient. They later failed to answer a phone call from my room I unerstod there was WiFi in the reception area but there was no one available to give me access numbers. Tell the chef that caesar salad is not made with whole cos lettuce leaves but wth coarse chopped leaves. My portion also lacked anchovies and nuts. This marred an otherwise excellent meal politely served.

"The stay was very pleasant. The Manchester city was very nice experience. The conference centre was not far from hotel, in the Manchester Metropolitan University."

The Hotel had nice clean rooms with all basic amenities. The coffee corner was regularly supplemented. The towels were regularly changed and there were enough towels. The breakfast was very copious.

There is not much but one point did pinch me. Most 4 star hotels of Novotel calibre does offer free wireless internet. In Novotel Manchester, the internet was available on payment and also it was expensive 10 pounds for 24 hours. I believe it is time to make all rooms either wireless or DSL free for the clients.

I thought the choice of breakfast foods was absolutely excellent. The hotel was in an ideal location near the centre of Manchester. Room was nice and cool and there were spare pillows. Excellent shower.

I don't think the sausages at breakfast could be described in any way as 'Cumberland Sausage' - believe me, I know, I'm from there! A minor point perhaps but it's all I can think of!

Expensive for room and drinks, tariff overpriced, and I hate cheap and nasty plastic pod bathrooms. Either go to the trouble of having a proper bathroom built or don't bother at all, we are paying to bathe in a room which is structured, and we get a tupperware bathroom. That room should have cost no more than £60.

Great location, helpful & polite staff on reception, lovely reception, bar & restaurant area - room was spacious

our room was too cold. we fiddled with the air-con controls but the room wouldnt warm up and there was no extra blankets, the shower/sink water had a very strong smell of chlorine, shower curtain was mouldy.

breakfast was no included in our price but we had arranged for it in our room and although it was nice we thought it was rather expensive
