Very nice hotel, good breakfast, excellent location for the railway station. Also very helpful staff - we arrived at 7am due to the fact that we were taking an early train journey and we were able to park our vehicle and even check into our room as it was available. The rooms must be incredibly well sound-proofed as there was a party in the hotel on the night we stayed and we couldn't even hear the loud music once we got back to our room.

We submitted a question via the Active Hotels booking tool which is supposed to be passed onto the hotel and didn't receive any response. Rang the hotel directly a few days later to check and they were very helpful.

"We booked on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. The meals were excellent, the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. There was a small query regarding the terms and conditions of the inclusive evening meal however this was dealt with professionally and to our satisfaction by the reception staff. The public areas were well presented, the rooms clean and tidy. There was a wedding party there during our stay yet the staff maintained their professionalism even when children were running amok. Recommended."

The only downside was that 'Sky Sports News' was not available even though it was on the list of available stations.

Extremely clean, well staffed, freshly decorated. Good sized room, ensuite facilities first class. Helpful friendly staff at reception and in the bar. If we were visiting Derby again I would stay here without question.

The hotel was very hot, would've preferred to be more airy. It also took a long time to get served at the bar. There seemed little urgency or understanding of who was next in line. I waited for 15mins on the Saturday evening with one bar attendant. The Managers should have provided additional resource to cover the busy periods. I ended up leaving the hotel to find other bars.

"I would like to have known that the hotel was dead opposite the station as it made for boarding our return train home so much easier."

The proximity to the station - a fact that was not obvious from the website.

"The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable with a helpful staff. The proximity to the train station is a plus, but it bears mentioning that there are NOT a lot of places to shop or eat nearby, and the hotel restaurant is quite pricey. Also, hotel breakfast is quite expensive and doesn't offer a lot of options. Considering how near the train station is, the room ours overlooked the station, too was actually quite quiet. We also stayed in London on this same trip and noise was a problem there - not so at this hotel."

LARGE ROOM, BATH, COMFORTABLE, TEA&COFFEE IN GOOD QUANTITIES.

"Good clean accommodation, noisy creaking floorboards upstairs, could have been warmer, lovely bathroom. the bar and lounge form just one area where people can smoke which is most unacceptable. Very convenient location for the station, staff very helpful except the one who served us tea and toast in the lounge area in the morning, she must have had a bad night or a bad disposition! The christmas decorations were embarrassing, just the tree would have been adequate if nothing better than red tinsel strewn across the ceiling was available. Need to review pictures on the wall in the lobby.............. I had all the information needed before arriving at the hotel"

The hotel was suitably located close to all amenities and the accommodation very pleasurable.

"As a traveling supporter, this was the first time I was staying overnight in Derby after a football match and The Midland was recommended to me by a fellow Derby County supporter. He always books into The Midland if staying up in Derby after a game. I was hardly in the room as only stayed the one night but overall, I was very impressed. In particular - despite arriving on a match day wearing my Derby shirt, the security man on the car park gate was very courteous and helpful, as were all the staff."

Everything! Bed especially comfy. Bathroom in particular was well stocked with far more than I could ever have needed.

The hotel was very clean and the room was generally quite pleasant. The hotel also is very close to the railway station and to local ameneties.

The bed was very soft, and not comfortable to those used to firm mattresses. Also there was no air-conditioning anywhere in the hotel. Smoking seemed to be allowed more or less anywhere in the bar / restaurant area even though there was a dedicated smoking room/area.

The rooms were very big and so clean i only wish i could have stayed longer than just the one night. Excellent hotel

Ease of getting to via the road system although local signing could do with improving, ease of parking although with it being a weekend I expected this.

Price of food in the restarant. We went just across the road and it was about 25% cheaper for good quality.

"generally good, i think the breakfast is a bit over priced for the quality of food. i also dont think the staff should mempty the hot water trays from the serving tables while there are still customers in the resturant. the night staff were very accomadating and helpfull and very considerate regarding the night time decoration of the bar area."

it was clean and the staff were very friendly.

the bathroom suit seemed a bit outdated and the shower cubical if running and you opened the door the head was pointing striaght out on to the floor.

"Expensive for a room only, no breakfast included, however, the kind staff did include breakfast for myself and my colleague, as our boss was not happy at the rate, for just a room. But lovely hotel, very convenient, and great staff"

Picking up dumpsters for 30 minutes outside the window at 5:00 a.m. could be eliminated to good effect. Put washclothes in the bathroom. Glass not plastic cups. A clock in the room.
