"Very poor due to the hotels mismanagement. They did not have our room available when we arrived, despite us booking it 6 weeks in advance and prepaying."
On the last day of our trip we stayed in the hotel due to a room becoming available. The room was nice and clean.
When we arrived, the hotel was over booked and they not have a room available for us. It took a considerable amount of effort to get the management to find us a room at another nearby hotel.

Easy access to Princess Street. This was necessary due to travelling with elderly mother. Although only one nights stay it was extremely comfortable and enjoyable.

"We would not chose to stay in a Thistle Hotel again."
It's position was central to all places we wished to visit. We were immediately moved to a back bedroom when we had complained about the noise of the first room allocated.
Lousy service in the dining room with staff who couldn't care less about making guests welcome and being accommodating. The waiting staff failed to ensure that there was sufficient choice of food remaining and when asked to renew these it took an age to deliver the missing items, with no apology for the delay.

"Overall I was happy with the choice and would stay again. Although we were facing the main road and the windows didn't keep the noise at bay."
The hotel was nice and a good location. Comfortable.
Wrong booking name, address and reservation details crossed with my credit card details. I only booked for one nights stay without breakfast but breakfast was charged. Although this was refunded. I am not happy that someone else has my name and address on their receipt

"The hotel was in a great location for site seeing, shopping, restaurants and had a cinema and theatre near by. Most nights were quiet and peaceful. Bed was very comfy. Would have preferred a larger selection on the menu and safer bathroom. I'd stay there again for a short stay but a longer stay I would prefer to stay somewhere else."
Clean and comfy room, friendly hotel staff. The Boston Bean Bar had a wider selection of menu and more flexible opening times. Enjoyed the selection of food at breakfast.
Craig's Restaurant opened at 6.30pm, I prefer to dine earlier, on the one occasion I did wait till 6.30, it ended up being fully booked for a coach party. Towel rail in the bathroom was attached to the wall at the end of the shower, a bit dangerous for my liking. Room service menu should have offered more choice, not just repeat what was on the Boston Bean Bar menu.

"Adequate"
In an excellent position.
No apparent lounge where one could sit and have a quiet drink and read. Two prices for breakfast £12 booked in advance; £8 booked at the hotel. Due to the discrepancy we refused to eat at all at the hotel.

"Good location, shame about the building site opposite!"
Requested a twin room, when we got there were advised it was a double, this was swifty changed to our original request. Nice room, spacious enough for the one night, plenty of cupboard space and comfy beds.
Building site on other side of road is not a good thing when you are trying to get a long lie! They started about 7.30am, so wasn't a restful start to the day!

"Attempts should be made to accommodate guests in hotels that are CLOSER to the city center instead of farther as location is a primary reason to choose your hotel. "
Nice staff
Hotel was overbooked so we had to wait to be taken to another hotel which was further away from the city center Royal Terrace Inn. While that hotel had a nice lobby and seemingly nice rooms, the bathroom sink was clogged and filled with water and the shower only dispensed scalding hot water making it nearly impossible to bathe.

Hotel was very reasonably priced and the service overall was good
I was not sent the details of the confirmation. Night before I did not have the address and the phone number of the hotel I was going to. When I finally did find out about the hotel they did not recognise the reference number I was given at the time of booking.

"I was pleased with my stay"
-excellent service -well designed web site -fast checking in/out -fair prices
- I reserved for a non-smoking room and got a room which smelled a lot of cigarette smoke
from Chester UK, stayed on March 28, 2009
A mistake was made in the booking. An alternative was offered but the room was a substandard shoe box. As the booking was made via a third party, the hotel would not refund the money. A poor experience that I will not repeat.

"Apart from the breakfast mess up, everything else fine."
Lovely room, brilliant location.
A treat from my kids for 60th BD. My daughter phoned 3 times to make payment and pay for breakfast, however we were still told that breakfast wasn't included on the 2 mornings even though it was!

"The stay was ok for what we needed and the discounted price was reasonable however had we paid full price for the room i would have been quicker to complain and requested and alternative room."
Nice Reception area and experience at check in and check out. Desk staff were very helpful
The room was disapointing mainly because the bathroom was mouldy and the metail fixtures were rusty. The hair dryer was also broken giving the overall appearance and feel of the bathroom as "tatty".

"as i mentioned i love the hotle and have been there on a number of occasions, i hope you dont think i am one for complaining i have stayed at the thistle on more than 10 occasions now but as u will probably have on file i never had a good experience the time before i stayed either, i dont like complaining but as i said i love the hotel and i would hate to see it go down the drain"
The hotel is overall very nice and very central.
The hygene of the corridor we were staying in were very poor, i also had to contact staff on a few occasions for help and information and i found them not very helpful and i felt as if i was interupting them, and felt the need to appologise for calling, also when i arrived at the hotel the corridor i was staying in guests had obviously but there dirty dishes outside there there was 3 sepeerate rooms had dirty dishes, but even the following morning when i was leaving they were all still lying in exactly the same place when i arrived

"Satisfactory"
Overall a very nice room with nice amenities and an awesome location in the city.
There was a stench in the room that was very pungent like rotten feet. We aired the room out but it did no good. When the lady came to clean the room which she did a thorough job it still did no good. The room itself needed some new furniture because the chairs were half broken and the bed was bowed in the middle.

Expensive for what was on offer-breakfast not even included in relatively high price.

"Overall quite a good experience but breakfast service, in all respects, needs to be smartened up."
The room was excellent - clean, spacious and a good outlook
Breakfast service was very slow. Had to wait for a table, send cups back dirty, several breakfast items from the buffet were missing others cold. Tea cold and had to be returned - waiting staff found it difficult to understand our Scottish accents.
from Lisburn UK, stayed on March 27, 2008
It was centeral to the city.
We feel breakfast should have been included in the cost, the additional cost of breakfast for 3 mornings did add significantly to the total cost of our stay.
