"The 2nd most squalid hotel I have ever had the misfortune to end up in. NEVER AGAIN!!!"

    Resturant staff friendly and efficient

Indifferent receptionist, and a room that stunk of backed up drains.

"For a one-night stay it was adequate - for a longer stay I would have requested a change of room."

Hotel very centrally located. Staff generally friendly and helpful.

My single room was small and not especially inviting. There was a lingering smell of what could have been tobacco smoke from a previous occupant. My bill was initially incorrectly calculated although immediately, and apologetically, corrected when I pointed this out.

"No complaints, but £99 per night for a single room is expensive, considering other hotels I have stayed in with similar standards/facilities, have been much cheaper."

    Nothing outstandingly good.

    Nothing particularly bad.

Perfect location, opposite Railway station & Metro. BT Openzone WiFi in room.

Room small, with opaque window, so no view of the outside world. Bathroom floor tiles broken.

"clean, warm and considering it's position by the station really quiet."

The fire alarm went off at 2am - only 2 members of staff on site - didnt's see one of them - no communication - car park gates locked so couldn't get out - didn't know if it was safe to go back to sleep - my complaint is being investigated by council H & S exec

Room Service. Very central. Friendly Staff.

    Room a little shabby

"The staff were excellent and as soon as i complained abou the room I was given another which was acceptable, but there is no way the hotel should be hiring out this room."

Nice enough hotel in good location, seemingly clean and well maintained

The room we were given was clearly damp with the dampness coming through the exterior wall and clearly visible, with large stains on the wallpaper. The shower room was also very damp and the ceiling had mould on it. Totally unsatisfactory for this class of hotel

"Overpriced for standard of room but good location."

Excellent location and pleasant reception staff

Tiny room up one flight of stairs and down another after the lift ride to 2nd floor. No bar fridge. Cleaner entered room before 9am and made lots of noise in corridor even though check out was not till 12 noon. If I booked again I would ask for superior room.

"I found the hotel quiet, nicely decorated and comfotable but a little overpriced. I would book to stay here again."

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room quiet. All facilities in goodworking order. I was impressed by the emphasis on the help for the hard of hearing or disabled person. A sign was avaiable to put on the door that indicated that the occupier may need extra support in cases of emergencies.

"I stayed in the hotel my TEFL course was held in and it was handy to be on site. The room was ok for the money but there was appeared to be mould or damp high on the wall near the bed, as well as a musty smell near the bed."

Good location and price with plenty of facilities in room e.g. hairdryer, iron, tea and biscuits. The room our course was held in was a nice size.

Ladies toilets on first floor smelt disgusting as though there was a major problems with the drains. Sausages at breakfast very poor quality and seemed more like vegetarian. No mini bar. Window in bathroom single glazed and ill fitting resulting in draughts and noise from outside.

"Excellent with helpful and considerate staff."

Very good location near station and city centre. Quiet and excellent in room facilities. Staff helpful and breakfast very good. I have to visit Newcastle again in November and hope to book again at Thistle.

I was in a room on fourth floor and in the morning at 7am water was tepid rather than hot. But this is a small point in what was a pleasant and comfortable stay

"Despite the above, the manager was very apologetic on us checking out and refunded our breakfast cost. The staff were very helpful looking after our cases."

    Very clean and fresh looking.

We were waiting an hour for a meal in the restaurant despite continually asking and saying we were going to a concert. Only offered one drink during that time. The room was very very hot and we could not open a window.

"Positives: great location for city centre etc, good quality food in the dining room, albeit a bit pricey. Friendly staff in dining area, reception etc Negaitives: bedrooms 5th floor anyway are awful. Need updating desperatley, but the main problem I had was the room was so hot it was almost unbearable. The window was wedged open with a bottle of shampoo, either by previous inhabitant or staff, but this only really succeeded in letting in the expected city centre noise particulary being opposite the station. Shut the window and bake or leave it open and be unable to get to sleep due to noise.... This after changing rooms already due to a flooded bathroom. Sadly I would not recommend this hotel, it doesnt offer very good value for money. others have as good a location but are not as grotty"

Hotel is well positioned for Station, City Centre & Quayside areas, also has valuable on site parking limited. Restaurant was good quality if a little pricey..

The hotel is tired and is in desperate need of an update, particularly the bedrooms.

"For the price they should at least provide a breakfast."

Very centrally situated for the city and the room seemed well insulated keeping out all the noise of the Friday/Saturday night revellers.

The double bedroom we booked turned out to be just 2 single beds pushed together. The TV was situated below the level of the bed which made it a bit awkward.

"As long as you you ask for a quiet room there are no problems with noise.Because the building is older you can hear the floorboards above you squeak and doors closing. apart from that the rooms are sweetly old-fashioned."

High-ceilinged old-fashioned rooms that were nice and warm.Bathroom ws quite spacious. Staff were friendly and professional.Fantastic location opposite main train station.

quality of breakfast foods was quite ordinary. I expected better quality bread than the supermarket sliced toast!

"In summary the location was good and had no problem with the staff but for the price the standard was way below par and I wouldn't rate it more than a 2 star!"

The location was great and the free car park was good but I think they only have limited spaces.

For £100 per night the room was disgraceful, there was damp, holes and filler in the walls and was in desperate need of decoration. The shower worked at a trickle.

"The hotel has a fantastic location just across the road from the station, there are lots of places to eat nearby, and the hotel is reasonably priced."

I had a single room but it had a queen size bed, the room was well furnished and clean.

"This is one of Newcastle's top hotels and is just a few steps from the central train station. A great place to stay for a short break if you have a few extra pennies to spare"

Nice and close to the city centre

The room was a bit small although very clean

    "All has been said above."

The hotel has the advantage of a central location, and delivers all that was necessary for an overnight. My room, a double, was small and had only one chair - ok for me, but tough if there were two people. The staff were excellent - efficient and keen to help.

The size of the room and a bit pricey for a room only rate.

    Breakfast expensive

Good location, friendly staff and that we were allowed to check in at 8am which made our day so much easier!

Would have been nice to have more tv channels and some channels were not working properly but that was probably due to the weather - not a big issue though.

"Prices vary a great deal on different websites, this being the cheapest. The hotel was very good, being in the centre of Newcastle & a short walk from most places. There was a regular bus service to the metro centre from the railway station over the road.Check if breakfast is included, if not there are plenty of cafes locally. there is a small car park at the hotel or a multi storey near by."

cental location opposite railway station, nice room,

breakfast not included & was expensive

"Highly recommended for people who want to get out and about as the buses, trains and metro station are all just 10 steps away, and the city centre is a short walk away. You might want to make sure you room is not on the second floor if you turn in early as the functions going on on the first floor can be a bit noisy and go on quite late."

    unbelievably handy location

bit noisy due to event in the hotel function rooms
