"Did not enjoy this hotel. Will never stay again. Excessive fees for using internet."
No space either side of double bed. So small we requested and obtained room change, even then we had to accept very small room in order to get bed side space. Very large breaks in granite around wash bool. Very unsightly. Wallpaper peeling off in many places. Paintwork on walls also very dirty. Dirty around window frames.

"A very good 'one nighter', perfect for theatres, eating houses and central attractions. Super staff!"
The rooms were 'a liitle tired', but clean and comfortable, perhaps a little smaller than we're used to. The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast didn't get top marks from the children - not enough choice or'service' apparently - but the adults had no complaints.

Details of our credit card for payment was taken 3 times. I thought I was paying when I made the booking but this turned out not to be the case when I printed off the confirmation. We then paid for our room upon arrival. When we left they asked for a further copy of our credit card details but there was no explanation as to why and this was not explained to us the night before.

"The hotel has a great location, but the staff could be much warmer and friendlier, particularly on the reception desk."
The room was clean, warm and quiet. The hospitality tray with kettle was most welcome. The bed was comfortable. The room temperature was good.
Some staff were quite morose and unfriendly. The shower did not work only cold water came out rather than hot. We had a hiccup in the booking process and were informed with less than one week's notice that our booking was cancelled which was in fact incorrect. It took four days of anxiety and frantic attempts to contact the hotel to find out that our booking was intact.

"Overall apart from 2 of the room issues we were happy with everything. I had rang booking.com to cancel the 6th room but on arrival i was told this hadn't been done which was very annoying for me to have to deal with when all we wanted to do was check-in!!!"
We had booked 5 rooms. 1 of the rooms was awful and the 2 people had to be moved to another room and another 2 people couldn't get into their room after using the leisure facilities and had to wait in their towels for 15mins whilst hotel staff sorted it out!!!

The room was in a poor state bath looked well used floor tiles were cracked door to bathroom wouldnt shut, wall paper in room was peeling away. Also food for breakfast bar was bland and was not fresh.

"Found the staff, especially Marcus in the Bar extremely helpful and friendly. The room itself although maybe in need of some renovation was lovely and clean. If going to Manchester again, would definately stay in the Thistle as the the price was exceptionally good value for a double room. Not sure if this was because I booked on line though."

"On the whole, not an experience I would wish to repeat. I cannot believe that the hotel has been allowed to keep the 3 star rating."
The staff did their best in very demanding situations and I felt sorry for them. The bed was comfortable.
No air-conditioning in bedrooms which were unbearably hot. Hotel being refurbished, as a consequence the outside was very dirty. The conference rooms were the worst I have come across.

The hotel is not a 4 star it needs updating, the first room we were given had an odour of smoking.After a request for a third room the room was excellent, no problems.
The staff were a bit slow on checking in, after asking for another room for the third time they found a better room, so if you keep asking you will get a better room.

I upgraded to a twin bedded room at the last minute the room was quiet very clean and comfortable as with all hotels never enough tea bags sugar and milk we came to go to a concert at the MEN so we found the hotel ideal for trains and the concert venue..

"We had a fire alarm go off at 6.30am and when we left our room we had to find our own way in the maze to the fire stairs, there were no hotel staff guiding us and when we got outside there were still no hotel staff. Luckily there wasn't actually fire!"

"Overall the hotel was fine - If these few matters of rooom-rate were sorted out between the website and the front-office team then that issue woudl be gone. If there is a facility missing like the swimming-polthe guest should be informed on arrival and perhaps offered an alternative centre to use."

The room was quite small The room rate was higher to the one we booked online and then we had to go through the hassle of seeking to have it ammended which I find undignified. The swimming pool in the leisure Centre was out of action during our stay. There was a large scaffolding on the face of the hotel The Breakfast is v expensive
