"Really nice stay and liked the sociable staff.Realize the air conditioning problem was probably a one off. Also I will be even more likely to stay again if the taxi driver returns my mobile to the hotel and you manage to get it back to me.my fault for dropping it in his carThe irish girl at the desk was really helpful. "

great staff, open minded and helpful, also very clean and comfortable.apart from the heat!

I wasn't informed the air conditioning was out,and obtained a fan from one of the chamber maids.Would have been really too warm otherwise.

I booked online to stay at this hotel and requested that i be checked in early as i arrived from a flight at 8.00am, this request was granted, however, when i arrived at the hotel with my reference number the reception staff who didnt look bothered as it was her last day on the job as she spent her time talking about this to other staff members, coming out from behind the counter to give people hugs and kisses while i sat on an internet station that took me 35mins to get into my email to prove i had booked online, i was really impatient at this point so decided to book into alternative accomodation, however i did show this girl my email confirmation and she said she couldnt understand how this happened. I was highly disappointed and would like someone from the hotel to call me regarding this incident

There was no air-condition in the room and had difficulties opening the windows caused by missing handles. As the hotel is situated in a busy road, air-condition should be installed.

    "Excellent "

The hotel is very centrally located i would suggest this hotel to anyone. The breakfast was simply perfect with a lot of choice.

The hotel was not informed of us travelling with two kids even though i wrote it on the booking comments so no extra beds were available for our first night.

    Clean, staff ok,breakfast good.

The hotel couldn't find my booking at the time of checkin in and I am concerned that I have paid twice for the one nite. We had roadworks and drilling outside of our room at 8.30am on the Sunday not your fault, shabby room in need of a lick of paint, faulty wobbley cold tap, lift shabby carpet and very worn

    breakfast very good.

General air of needing refurbishment. Toilet not flushing properly. Man near us at breakfast behaving weirdly and swearing, slurping etc. Staff should not have out anyone near him and his companion.

"Great - my son loved it!"

    Good hotel. Easy booking

Thought I had paid for the room when I booked. Present for my son. He then had to pay on arrival. I did not realise this when I booked or would have phoned to pay over the phone.

"The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom and bathroom were clean. The bed was comfortable and it was easy to adjust the heating. There was minimal noise so we weren't disturbed while sleeping. The breakfast was very apart from the coffee which was the weakest most tasteless coffee I have ever had. There is a secure room for luggage until you are ready to leave. The guests were all well behaved."

The room was clean the bed was comfortable and it was easy to adjust the radiator.

I couldn't get the TV to work but not really bothered as there was nothing I wanted to watch. The heated towel rail in the bathroom didn't work either. The shower screen hasn't been fitted properly so the water runs down it onto the floor. I had to prop it in position over the bath.

"Overall, an excellent hotel. Have used it before this stay and felt it was good enough to choose this hotel again this time round over any other. The room was of a high standard and was very comfortable. The bar was pleasant, well decorated and relaxing. The staff were very helpful, pleasant and warm. The hotel's breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice and variation. The location is also ideal. The toilet didn't work properly, but know from my previous stay that this was a once off. Overall, from my two experiences in the hotel I would say that yours is an excellent hotel with absoloutely great value for money. I'm a firm fan of it and will use it again in the future and will also recommend to friends."

Location in town, very good room, excellent breakfast, warmth and helpful nature of the hotel staff.

The room's toilet didn't work properly.

"The staff overall were unhelpful, rude and obviously did not want to work. The bar manager in the afternoon, and the bar manager in the evening were especiallyb rude, and could not be bothered to do anything. The reception staff on all occasions could not be bothered, anything was too much trouble. The seating at breakfast was dirty, and after asking for a clean chair was taken to the wrong table.. why oh why are rooms allocated at the front of the hotel??? the noise was horrendous all night, we did not sleep. I would not stay at Princess On Portland as a gift."

    Nothing

    Almost everything

    "Excellent."

Central location and value for money was excellent. Overall facilities and friendliness of staff again very good.

Only one towel in the room despite being a double with double occupancy. Switch for TV was on the wrong side of the room and had us confused! Although discount parking was available it was not clear from the website how to get to this. Payment methods seemed a bit excessive - you give card details on website to make reservation, then have card swiped for security when you arrive, then have card swiped when you leave to pay.

"The only problem we had was when we arrived at the hotel they could note find our booking even when I produced the confirmation receipt. The receptionist called the manager who quickly and promptly found us a room?"

    Room very comfortable

Overlooked the main street. Quite noisy.

  • 60% Young couple

    stayed on March 6, 2008

"Generally I thought the charge of over £300.00 for two nights b&b was expensive, the room we were in didn't warrant that amount. The hotel in general needs a make over, perhaps then this would excuse the high charge. Better directions to the NCP Car Park you use would be very helpful, we wasted half an hour trying to find it as there are quite a few NCP car parks in this area."

Central location to the shops, bars, china town and sites

The chips were covered in salt, it should be the customers choice as to what they want on their food. There could be health issues as a result. The carpets and general decor needs updating. Perhaps more mature waiting staff in the restaurant as at times we felt we were an inconcvenience to their chats! However recption and bar staff were great.
