"Staff were polite and food was okay. "

When we arrived the staff were welcoming and attentive. Bar meal was good.

"Would only recommend anyone stay there if you were desperate. Dark, dingy, very worn fixtures & fittings in the so called ' 4 poster bedroom' which was a double bed with floral embellishments around. Absolutely one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in & I certainly won't be repeating the experience!!"

Everything was awful. The male proprieter was very nice and the polish waitress that served us breakfast was lovely. However, the woman who checked us out & answered our query about breakfast was very curt & unfriendly. Felt as though we were imposing on them for breakfast. Coffee & Tea both cold & had to send back.

"Inadequate information misled our booking, reception staff appeared to be inadequately trained in customer service. We felt we were too much trouble, right from arrival."

Use of website for booking was easy, hotel was clean and food good. Bar man and waitress were good.

aOn arrival between 2 and 3 p.m. hotel was locked. bBooking did not allow us to book a single room. Upon request for a single room the hostess refused us, as this was not requested on the booking website. cThe rooms do not have hot water for the bathtubs, so only showers were available. d One of the rooms was small, it appeared to be a single room, however was priced to us as a double.

"On your internet confirmation it confirmed I could pay with Visa. At hotel this was not the case and I had to pay cash. This was a severe inconvenience."

    Cosy atmosphere. Food good.

Shower not working 1 day. Furnishings in room antiquated and needs to be updated for the money charged.

"Decent value for money compared to the other prices in the area"

Friendly Staff good reception area food ok/good

My room had had a flood the day before and still had the damp carpet smell which made it unpleasant. They were not full so why not offer me aother room? Shower was a trickle of water. Whole building was in need of refurbishment

"Much more could be done of this lovely building, updating en suite accommodation, also the room where breakfast is served is incredibly dark and not particularly welcoming. Saying that I will no stay there again isn't a criticism in itself I never do unless the accommodation is exceptional."

    The actual building itself

despite double glazing it is noisy road noise when booking via internet there was no mention of NOT accepting ViSA card, they only accept debit card.

"Enjoyed good base for lakes and would go again"

    Good room for money

hot water very slow but for age of building you have to be forgiving. Music piped into bar and dining room not good and not to a mass market.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. Appreciated a radio in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Booking system was easy and efficient.

Arrived to a smell of old chips. The razor light in the bathroom was not working. Got keys to the rooms mixed up and nearly charged us the wrong amount.

"Brilliant weekend even with all th erain. Will certainly go back."

The staff and owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome and at home. Everything was clean and best use has been made of a very old building. Bed very comfortable slept like a log both nights.

No bad points only that the bar closed early for a Saturday night 11:00pm. We got back from the wedding reception hoping the driver could have had a night cap but bar in darkness.

"This hotel is in a lovely location. The quality of the rooms are reflected in the price charged. I have no doubt that they could charge more per nuight if the rooms were updated a little. Very good breakfast & the pub steak & kidney pie was delicious."

    Location

Unmodernised room. Tacky bedlinen, furniture. Bathroom light not working. Rubbish shower

"We would certainly would stay again at the Farmers Arms. We loved finding our way through the rafters, beams and passages of this 14th century building. The place was very clean and the fourposter bed beautiful. We appreciated having two comfortable chairs in the room and it was warm and cosy, good handing space for clothes, TV etc plenty of tea/coffee/ towels etc. The Farmers Arms is easy to find, a good base for exploring the southern lakes, has plenty of parking but is in a quiet and peaceful spot."

Loved the historic atmosphere. Kind and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Good service

A somewhere to put toiletries in the bathroom would have been nice. I couldn't open a window in our room

"The general atmosphere of the place was wonderful from the building to the staff. We were on our honeymoon and felt we were treated above the usual standards of any hotel we have stayed in before. The owners were so friendly we will definately be staying with them again."

The Farmer's Arms had retained the character of a 14th Century Inn, loads of oak beams, moody corners , open fires just great.

    There was nothing to dislike
