Clean and friendly, great food , nice rooms

"Not bad, but I would be very careful to check my bill in future"
Nice location. Excellent and knowledgeable barman
Air conditioning in room was hopeless. You automatically billed us for a contribution to a charity. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR. Great wine selection but your prices were absurdly high

"Some things were very disappointing for a hotel of this rating. It felt rather greedy and over-rated but staff were very pleasant"
Pleasant staff
Steam room out of order. Told that internet available in room but connection unusual and they did not have cable that worked with usual laptops so I could not use internet which is important for my business. Sunday night we came back at 9pm intending to have meal in the bar but discovered that dspite hours told on Friday evening it was closed.A note through the door in the morning would have been useful. We ordered a glass of red wine in another bar from menu where price was

"Served it's purpose of overnight accommodation with a swimming pool."
Good sized bedroom, comfortable bed. Decent breakfast
Bar food excessively over priced & only available in a room full of children. Tea making equipment inaccessible.

"On-line booking easy but slight uncertainty over breakfast prices. Booking showed two pricesFull v. Continental, whereas hotel staff only recognise one price regardless of type of breakfast taken. Receptionist dealt with the uncertainty to my advantage."
no fuss, good straightforward accomodation with a decent breakfast all at a good discount on normal prices.

"My only criticism of the hotel would be concerning the restaurant at dinner. Food quality was not to the standard I would expect and not in keeping with the general feel of the hotel with overdone vegetables, small portions generally although the quality of the wine compensated a little. The restaurant staff, although polite, were rather disengaged, lacking warmth or a welcoming attitude and service was rather slow. All of which contributed to a rather downbeat feel to the restaurant. Having said that, breakfast service was better"
Room was spacious, clean and well-appointed. Particularly liked the lighting in the room.

EXCELLENT evening meals both in the bar and in the restaurant
Breakfast seemed to be better the earlier you had it! Later on the sausages and bacon seemed to be less well cooked.

"I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and this was disappointing and I'm afraid is not one I would recommend. It was certainly adequate, but I would expect more for the money that was being charged, and silly little things like charging for a newspaper or an extra delivery charge for room service bearing in mind breakfasts deliver big margins anyway just seemed greedy"
Clean, professional and friendly
Breakfast not great, prices were high

"The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was slightly chaotic but not bad for a buffet-style affair."
Exceptionally clean & well ordered. Everything worked.
The long walk from Reception. I don't know if there was a lift, but we were not directed to it.

"Overall a very enjoable stay but would have liked to have known about the work in the wet area at the time of booking as this was part of the reason for the choice of hotel for the use of the facilities. Visitor alternatives were offered so they tried to make the stay as enjoable as possible."
Lovely setting, clean and tidy very functionable. Very good food very freindly staff.
Unfortunately the pool Sauna and jaccuzie were closed due to referb and only notified at last minuet but we were compensated.

"When we checked in we were not told that the pool was closed for rennovation. As this was my main basis for booking this hotel, I was not impressed. "
Hotel was very nicely furnished and clean. Bed was huge! Breakfast excellent.
Couldn't find any instructions to turn the air-conditioning off. figured it out eventually, but it kept making an annoying noise every 10 minutes.

Large room, nicely decorated

"Service was a bit unfriendly and stuck up. We wanted to have dinner in the main restaurant and were told at least 5 times by people that it was smart dress, no jeans, tshirts etc. We ended up no using the restaurant as the welcome was very unfriendly. No wonder hardly any people were eating there. We went to a great Italian locally and spent more than we would have done in the hotel restaurant - their loss. The internal leisure facilities were in need of work. The changing rooms were poor for an expensive hotel. The steam room had no steam in it and the spa was broken. The towels we were given were really old. I stayed at the Solent Spa nearby a couple of months ago, for a similar cost and that hotel was head and shoulders above this one."

"Having previously stayed at the Alveston Manor which is one of the many Macdonald Hotels I was aware that this hotel would provide excellent service and they did not dissapoint. Over all a very pleasant stay, perhaps I will go back there one day but I would like to visit some of the other Hotels they own. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break set in a quaint location I would strongly reccomend The Alveston Manor in Stratford Upon Avon, but if your a golfer then Botley Park is the place for you as it is set within acres of land."
The decor of the room was very nice, modern and fairly minimal. The breakfast was very good and the room service staff we're excellent and friendly.
There was an over powering smell coming from the toilet which wasn't very pleasent upon entering the room and the room could do with a new bed.

nothing!
from Guildford United Kingdom;UK, stayed on August 2, 2006
"Overall the stay was very pleasant, we found the rooms to be very clean and comfortable and the meal we had in the restaurant was excellent and worth the money. In general the staff were helpful though we did find that in the Leisure Club we had to go back and forth to the member of staff on reception to get information which could have been made more obvious. Also someone eating in the restaurant the same night altered the room on their bill so that the meal was charged to our room, fortunately this was sorted out with few problems but we feel that the restaurant staff should have prevented this."
Very comfortable hotel, rooms very clean, restaurant excellent
Used trays left in corridors

"I arrived at just past 9pm after a long drive and found out that food was being served until 9.30pm so I needed to hurry in getting changed. I quickly went to my room and changed into some casual cloths - collered shirt and smart jeans and hurried to the restaurant to find I was not allowed to eat there as I was wearing jeans - even as a resident of the hotel - my only option was to change again or go to the sports bar - which had limited food options; a long delay and what seemed a random and chaotic approach to serving drinks and food. I had a burger and went to bed - disallusioned with the hotel and its over self indulgent approach to the restaraunt and rules for its residents!"

"Got a good late discount and was very pleased with hotel overall - will choose a MacDonald hotel again."
Staff were really helpful and moved me into a room with net curtains as I was overlooking the car park. Rooms were really good too - spacious and well styled.
Nothing really - quite far out of Southampton -

"Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the staff where friendly and very helpful, The food although not a great choice was excellent."
The accommodation was excellent
Car Park Lighting, The computers in the dining room could do to have all the wires hidden as it looked a mess, while eating in the restaurant, with eight others I was surprised to see the waiter turn a couple away because he said they were busy , I would hate to have come when they where busy?, The menu was limited

"Excellent accommodation, service and staff. Spa facilities were lovely and never overcrowdede, very relaxing atmosphere. Food was wonderful and we were spoiled for choice. Dining Room staff were friendly and pleasant. We went for the football, but would go again just for the relaxation."
Comfortable and clean. Very friendly staff, excellent food and service throughout the stay.
There wasn't anything we disliked

"Staff pleasent and helpfull. Good size room with mini bar, triuser press, iron etc. Leisure facilities well kept. This hotel has had some bad reviews refering to the extensive renovation works, however, there was no noise and the works caused no disruption. Meal prices are a little high, but apart from that the stay was excellent."
Good size room well equiped
No bad points

"Relaxing, superb facilities, helpful staff, good food & service. will be back again with our golf clubs next time. We had taken our golf shoes as it was only a one night stay rather disappointed to find there were no clubs available for hire. We were given to understand management at the course has changed, it might be a point to bear in mind for the future to have a few sets of clubs available for hire."
Relaxed atmosphere & excellent facilities
Towels were rather frayed & worn

"My wife was visiting the UK for the first time. We had stayed in a 5 star Mayfair hotel prior to staying at the BPH yet the impression left with my wife was that the BPH was preferable even to the extent that we will base ourselves there in future and travel down to Bournemouth where our hotel experience was not as positive! from Botley"
Initial clean impression, generous room size

"Not all of the facilities mentioned were present from this site, there was no snooker/pool room, there was also no air-conditioning as this had not yet been switched on. The lady we spoke to about the AC was delightful, and moved us to another room which was supposed to be an executive room Although the room had a better view, and was not above a very noisy extractor fan. the main difference was bath robes which were old and tired It is also worth noting that this lady was fabulous, and took a great deal of pride in helping as much as possible she was only there for our first day which is a shame The golf course was amazing, and I imagine this is why most people visit this particular hotel. The spa facilities were on the small side, which did not affect us due to there only being a few rooms being booked out - during a busy time, it is likely that you could not use these facilities. In the lounge bar it took over an hour for our food to arrive, and then when it did come out it was wrong twice so we waited over 1hr 30minutes for food to arrive this was just for a sandwich, however this was corrected by us being given a refund it was not what you would expect from a four star hotel. It was also not possible to dine in their restaurant on the first night, due to two large party bookings. The booking meant that the bar area was crowded and dirty, the next afternoon there was still dirty plates etc in the bar/lounge area. The room was supposed to be recently refurbished, the room was still tired in places, marks on the wall etc, and very dusty... General experience was fair, good if you like golf - however I would not book again for a relaxing or romantic weekend. Little disapointing to be honest."
Hotel lacked sparkle orthe finesse you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
