"Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would recomend this establishment"
The welcome and assistance on arrival was first rate, the extra help given for personal medical reasons was again first rate. The menus were very good, the food was excellant and the service as it should be; polite and friendly without intruding. Our room was compact but comfortable.
Our shower appeared to be ready for re-furbishment and I understand this will be done soon but in no way did this detract from our stay. Unfortunately the rather steep stairs were a bit of a problem for me.

"Pity it was only one night, if we could have we would have stayed another night. We had an evening meal and full breakfast both were excellent."
Great location and fantastic building, newly refurbed? Excellent food well prepared and served.Attentive friendly staff.
Possibly a little small on the room size, but not a complaint.

"A most pleasant stay in a lovely area of Grange. Just out of the town and great if you favour peace and quiet. After an excellent breakfast with the best bacon we have had for many years take a lovely walk from the hotel up on to Hampsfell for great views of Morecamble Bay. We will remember for a long time the lovely meals and relaxing afterwards in the lounge with good coffee. Excellent car parking. A super rural retreat, but convenient for all Grange amenities."
Good value, high quality food, cooked well and pleasantly presented. Proprietors and staff were friendly, helpful, and above all willing to make our stay very comfortable. The hotel was warm and our room and public areas were well decorated. Good bathroom, with plenty of hot water.
A few cobwebs they are high ceilings!. The upper windows in our bedroom needed a good clean. Stair carpet loose on a couple of steps - might be a little unnsafe. But not to dwell on this, overall it was fine.

"Despite the bad points it was very good overall."
Breakfast and dinner were excellent and our stay was good value for money we had 3 nights for price of 2. A pleasant, quiet location.
A small quibble: my wife noticed a hair grip on the floor when we arrived, left by a previous guest. It was still ther at the end of our stay. The bedmaking - or lack of it - left a little to be desired.

"Very pleasant."
First class food, friendly cheerful staff.
The en-suite bathroom had neither shower facilities nor a shaver point. Only an inconvenience really but you would normally expect to find them both these days.

The staff were attentive, room clean and welcoming. Really nice spa bath and four poster bed. I requested flowers and champagne on arrival, but for the broken ice machine it would have bee 100/100 so they get 99.5/100.

"An excellent hotel with friendly staff and a very good breakfast."
Excellent breakfast. Good clean facilities. Nice touches in the bathroom eg as well as showergel there is also a shoe cleaning sachet, liquid soap and hand lotion. In the bedroom there is also a hairdryer and as well as tea and coffee there is hot chocolate
In twin room a curtain is needed over the window in the bathroom, and the radiator in the twin bedroom could do with being warmer.

Very friendly, family run place. Flexible on check in and check out times. Room very clean. Breakfast a good, hearty fry-up!
No shower in room, only bath with low-level shower attachment which didn't work. Not really a double room but two singles pushed together.

"really enjoyed break staff and hotel lovely but definately not a good position."
hotel was lovely bedrooms and staff very nice.
bit out of the way up a steep hill very poorly lit at night. extremely cold icy weather which is not hotel owners fault but getting up to hotel on foot or by car treacherous. bedroom was very cold at night even though heating never off but they need to look at double glazing. we left a day early because of weather conditions which again is nobodys fault all in all lovely hotel if it was situated somewhere else. it also takes you about 15 minutes to explore grange over sands.

"Within the context of a late booking this was very good value for money. One can understand the reasons why staff enquire whether guests intend dining in the hotel for the evening but I suspect that those on holiday may not wish to commit themselves at breakfast time, albeit I assume, in the interest of fresh produce."
Quality of food , both evening meal and breakfast very good. Food was freshly cooked and service efficient but relaxed. Staff always helpful and accommodating.
from Glasgow UK, stayed on March 27, 2008
"I usually try and book a 3 or 4 star so was a little wary booking this 2 star. This was a last minute booking so choice was limited. However can safely say this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in and certainly merits more than 2 stars. Staff were helpful, friendly. Room was pleasantly decorated with attention to detail. However without doubt the highlight of our stay was the quality of the food served at dinner and breakfast. A fabulous choice and fabulous eating experience at very reasonable price. Can't wait to retun."
cleanliness, attractive decor

"Our stay was a last minute booking and we found the staff very plesant and friendly. We had our dog Hobbs with us and in past hotels we have been given not so nice rooms due to the dog but the room was excellent and the hotel has a public footpath at the enterance which takes you down to the town and saves walking on the road. We has dinner at the hotel on out first night and the food was really good and reasonably priced. We have spent a few long weekends at the lakes and will defenatley visit this hotel again."
the room was a good size and very comfortable, it also had a good bathroom and was very clean
I find it difficult to find anything to dislike

"A friendly welcome, clean comfortable room, information about hotel offered on arrival. All amenities on offer were in place eg tea making hairdryer etc. Staff helpful and polite. Breakfast particularly good, hot, and well presented. Super location but we did find it was not too easy to locate. The outside appearance of the hotel does not do it justice, it is delightful inside. Child friendly my daughter 10 yrs really enjoyed her stay, enjoyed reading the history of the house."

"Overal we had a lovely stay at the hotel and our all our needs were accomadated. I would definately recommend the evening meal it was delicious as was breakfast. The walk into town is quite long and steep but the views from the hotel make up for this."
Friendly, welcoming service with good facilities and excellent food. The room was very comfortable with clean bathroom and great shower.
Was travelling with elderly grandmother who found stairs difficult and pregnant sister who found distance into town hard as steep hill.

"The only complaint that I have of my weakend away was that the weather could have been better, all in all our stay at the Hampsfell Hotel was excellent. Can't say enough about the food wonderful"
The food excelled all my expectations as I am a vegitarian, I sometimes struggle to get a special vegitarian meal usually the vegi options are boring. But I can honestly say that the food was wonderful. Both my husband and I have not eaten food of this quality in other hotels that we have stayed in. I would recommend this hotel to my friends
