Helpful and friendly staff, good selection of food and drinks at breakfast. Fantastic location, lovely views.

Room too hot so couldn't sleep as the radiator had been turned up to full heat - turned off radiator and opened the window but the room took a couple of hours to cool down. Peppermint tea in the room would be nice as a caffeine alternative. My bed was ok but my friend's bed was too soft. The pillows need replacing as they were a bit too flat. Visitor than that it was fine for the money.

"Quite a quaint hotel but more attention to detail should be made."

Receptionist was efficient. Breakfast enjoyable, lovely view from dining room.

Bathroom had not been equiped with clean towels and soap. A dirty hand towel had been left. Bed side table near window which was open was covered in insects around the lamp that was switched on when we entered the room. Seemed to be a shortage of staff as the problem could not be dealt with until a few hours later, due to service for dinner.

"Good and I would certainly stay again given the chance although only at a discounted rate as the headline rate is a little overpriced IMO."

Great location, quiet, tastfully refurbished but still old and quaint.

Waiting staff lacked experience and what they should really do.

"Not bad but the restaurant is a definite setback; the head waiter is pleasant but not very professional and the chef produced good fare but not always the right fare and never promptly."

    Reception staff werevery efficient.

The procedure for dinner was unacceptable; we booked a table for 7.30pm and actually sat down at about 8.15. there seemed to be no supervision of staff at the busiest time when extra help was needed but if the kitchen could not produce the food quicker than they did then there is no point. On the second night we ordered lamb and got beef - didn't complain as it would've taken too long to replace. Breakfast was similar - service very slow. Seems the hotel needs to review the kitchen's productivity.

"Very good, comfortable stay, lovely building. The peace was disturbed by a large party of about 12 who arrived with 4 dogs. The dogs were fine but the owner of the dogs was very noisy and was constantly calling the dogs, shouting at them and had a whistle which she kept blowing to call the dogs. The dogs kept going in the lake and then running round the tables on the lawn - soaking wet and brushing past us whilst we sat having a drink."

excellent, quiet location and views by the lake, and short walking distance from village.

Not enough local draft beers in bar. Breakfast a bit small and some of breakfast staff a little rude - we sat at a table which was apparently set for dinner and the waiter said "look, can't you see, this one for breakfast, this one set for dinner?" in front of a packed dining room and then we were made to move tables in the middle of eating a bowl of cereals.

Very clean, large and warm room with an excellent view of the town and a very comfy big bed.

Breakfast was undercooked and the service a little slow.

    "really good"

staff were brilliantly friendly and helpful

our shower would only run luke-warm unless you tweaked the cold tap on the bath . The bath water was plenty hot enough so a bath was no problem. There was a problem with a blocked downpipe adjacent to our room so it poured water all night. Plumbing is such a problem isn't it!

Close to Conniston village and where we needed to be for conniston guide dog challenge

Lamps & kettle did not work, large cobwebs in corners of room. £105 per night for a 2 star hotel, no telephone in room when location is not good for mobile reception

Staff were really helpful and friendly. The jetty was great to dangle feet in the water. The garden late at night was a great place to look up at the stars from. Had a great night, wish it had been longer.

"Poor, Staff were good shame about the hotel. Lovely setting. "

The Staff where very friendly after the initial check in, Arrived at 1pm was told under no uncertain circumstance are we allowed to check in until 2pm. We have a 2 year old child which had been in the car for over 4 hours. The lady allowed us to place bags in the room in the end. Quite remote from local towns, view was good. Booked a room oer the lake, got a room looking into the kitchen.

Hotel was quite old and the rooms were in bad need of modernisation. The whole place needs a good renovation.

We would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone who is thinking of using Coniston as their base for touring the area. We normally caravan when on holiday but would not hesitate to use this hotel again in future."

    Good location, great views

A bit tatty, mediocre food and too expensive given the modest ameneties. The staff were not overly enthusiastic about their employment might be my guess.

    Very clean

The bedroms needed decorating, wallpaper was hanging of the wall under the window. The shower was dreadful, just dripped out - literally. However, I woud recommend it but suggest first floor instead of a second floor room to allow for water pressure.

TO find a very good quality Hotel in a small village of Coniston.

Nothing much except the minute elements of cleanliness.

"The staff are very welcoming and attentive in this traditional hotel in its beautiful setting only a short pleasant stroll from the village and the lakeside. A quiet drink or two can be enjoyed in the hotel lounge which has a nice view over the garden. Breakfast and dinner are taken in the dining room which has great mountain views through its vast picture windows. Although, in December, it was a little chilly to linger very long in the extensive hotel gardens they would be very enjoyable in the warmer weather. The gravel path leads to the jetty where the lake cruisers pick up and drop off from. The bus for Hawkshead/Ambleside stops just outside."

The pleasant spacious room with its great mountain view and a huge bathroom. The lift to the first floor.

    Nothing.

The hotel grounds are lovely and the staff were friendly enough. They were very accommodating as we were allowed to check in early. The lounge and restaurant were nice.

    Our room was very cold.
