"We came to stay at this hotel because of the reviews it had. Everyone talked of the wonderful greeting that you get from Peter when you enter the hotel. All absolutely true, he is top class, charming and made us feel most welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. We will be staying again!"
The area that the hotel stands is wonderful

Character and setting of the hotel was excellent and very much more interesting than is normally experienced with some hotel chains.

"The hotel is quirky and would have great potential as a fine Country House establishment BUT its not hitting the mark in its appearence especially around the Entrance & Restaurant area's. Based on my allocated room, it could definately do with a good re-fresh"
Tranquill surroundings
It's a bit dated and not as clean as i like for Hotel accommodation

A lovely welcome was received for our 1 night stay at the hotel which is in lovely surroundings. A typical country hotel
Small bathroom and no hair dryer. Dinner was excellent but there was only one vegetarian option on the menu. I feel that had we informed the hotel of our dietary requirements they would have accommodated us but we didn't think this should have been necessary.

"We booked this hotel because of its close proximity to the M5 - it looked interesting and it had a restaurent. The fact that we could book a double and twin in a contained unit also had its attraction."
The setting was ideal for access to M5. The Hotel was situated in quiet location with stunning views. The meals were very good and the owner was very welcoming and hospitable

"The most pleasurable part of the stay, apart from that already mentioned, was that of Peter the proprietor who could not have been more welcoming. We were fortunate we stayed at a quiet period and our stay was extremely quiet and peaceful."
Clean, comfortable and an excellent view.
Rather mean with the in-tray, one small biscuit between the two of us. Two sachets of sugar. A nit-pick really.

"On arrival we were welcomed by the owner who was extremely pleasant and friendly in fact he could not do enough for us,the room was of a high standard, clean and very comfortable with spectacular views of the countryside. The atmosphere was relaxed and we never felt pressured to vacate our room on the morning of leaving. In brief I would have no reservation in recommending this hotel in the future and will be returning in the near future."
The original features and the beautiful country setting.
Not enough tea and coffee sachets left in room.

"I thought Angie and Colin were delightful hosts. The other staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I hate it when staff are too much in your face and have too high a profile. This was not the case at the Woodlands...it was just right. No-one likes to be fussed over. I would not hesitate to return or recommend the hotel to friends and colleagues."
It was very tastefully decorated and very welcoming

"I would stay at this hotel again!"
It was very clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was one of the best I've eaten in a long time. It was excellent.
The stay coincided with a heatwave and it would have been nice if there had been some form of cooling, perhaps simply an electric fan....

"The hotel and its surroundings are just beautiful and a haven of peace and tranquility. After a long journey on a warm day, sipping Gin and Tonics on the patio by the pool was a lovely way to unwind. The menue seemed adequate and prices were not over inflated - so it was a real extra bonus that when the food came, it was absolutely divine and I'm so glad that we made the decision to stay in to eat rather than look further a field. The genuine friendliness and warmth of the staff was great - not too over the top, they struck just the right balance. It was a lovely way to end our week away."
The hotel was set in beautiful grounds. Our room was clean, with an enormous bed and a whirlpool bath - just what you need after a weeks walking!

"Although the hotel was very friendly, we didn't really think that there was anywhere we could 'relax' with our two year old son, and so retired to our room after our meal. There was also no child menu, so we felt our son had a 'make do meal' which he didn't enjoy. It would be a hotel we would possibly visit again as a couple, and not with our child, which is a shame! As the hotle is so small we also felt it should have a non-smoking policy, even in the small bar area! However, I would recommend this hotel to couples of all ages! Lovely rooms and great staff!"
Very Friendly staff. Lovely quiet location
We didn't really rate the evening meal. It was a little expensive for what we got.

"The staff was accommodating and the quality of food was quite high. The room was pleasant and comfortable--not minor factors. We left an otherwise good inn in Yorkshire early because the bed was uncomfortably soft and opening windows was discouraged because of an insect problem; appreantly they hadn't heard of screens!. One thing the UK needs more of is firm mattresses for the many of us with back problesm. We'd go back to Woodlands, however."
We prefer country house hotels and have stayed at a number of them in the UK. They can vary from Modest to Upscale. The Devonshire Arms and Kingston House are in the latter category. Woodlands is not but does not pretend to be. It is a good, mid-level country house hotel.

"It was a very relaxing and a pleasant place to spend either one night or many. Very easy to find off the M5, but far enough you feel you are away from it all in a small pretty village, with nice walks right out of the door."
Hotelier is excellent and gives a personal service.

"Overall, an enjoyable stay. The hotel is situated in a nice quiet area and you really do get that 'country hotel' feel about the whole place. The family suite was comfortable, and has the benefit of having it's own entrance, which is great especially with children. The only point I would make, is the hotel is a little more 'worn' than perhaps depicted in the brochure, but this wouldn't put me off staying again."
Plenty of space in the family suite.
Perhaps better parking facilities, and some low level lighting for late evenings along the driveway.

"Angie and Colin welcome everyone and cannot do enough for you. If you need help with anything ask, they will try their best for you. We enjoyed their hospitality and the surrounding countryside and plan to go back for a few more days later on in the year."
The style fitted the location.
Parking maybe?

"We were looking for somewhere in the country for an overnight stay. This hotel was ideal in that it is situated very close to the M5 but in a countryside surrounding. The hotel itself was very busy when we stayed as there was a wedding party on but this didnt disturb us and our needs were still catered for. There are numerous attractions very close by and there are a number of options for eating out in the vicinity. The room had all we needed and was extremely comfortable; the decor, especially in the restaurant was pleasing and the breakfast extremely filling! There is the additional bonus of an outdoor swimming pool."
Small and friendly hotel; excellent ameneties, nice location.
